Chapter More 13
Chapter 13: Go Chat with Your Childhood Sweetheart
The crisp sound of a slap echoed throughout the coffee shop.
Everyone was shocked.
Rebecca was a little scared and instinctively grabbed Sandra’s arm.
“Sandra, stay out of this.”
If the woman called the police, they would definitely face criticism and punishment.
Rebecca might lose her job, but she could always find another one.
But it was different for Sandra.
Sandra lived in the mountains, and if she got detained, her master would go hungry.
What should they do?
“Sandra, you should leave before the police come. I’ll take the blame.
for everything.”
Rebecca’s eyes turned red with anxiety. She wished Sandra could just disappear on the spot.
Sandra wasn’t afraid at all.
It was purely self–defense, so she could come out of this unscathed.
“Don’t worry.”
The woman who got slapped covered her face and gritted her teeth.
“Alright, just you wait. I’ll make sure you pay for this!”
She immediately took out her phone. They didn’t know whether she was going to call the police or ask someone for help.
Rebecca became even more nervous.
“Sandra, you need to leave now.”
Sandra patted her hand. “Take it easy. Sit down for a second.”
Rebecca burst into tears, “Why are you so calm…”
“Humph, my husband is here!”
The woman suddenly shouted, went to the door, and pulled in a fat
man.
When the man saw Sandra, his eyes lit up.
Rebecca felt uncomfortable with the way he looked at Sandra and instinctively stood in front of her.
“Honey, it’s these two,” the woman said, pointing at Sandra and Rebecca. “Look, they’ve slapped me!”
The man narrowed his eyes.
“How dare you bully my wife!”
Sandra sneered, “Where’s the evidence?”
The woman shouted, “I have injuries all over my body. Isn’t that
evidence?”
Sandra looked at the woman. “How can you prove that they are not self–inflicted?”
The woman was speechless.
The man was drawn to Sandra.
He immediately took a couple of steps forward and lowered his voice.
“I can see that you don’t have much money. If my wife insists on calling the police, you won’t be able to keep your jobs.”
Rebecca bit her lip, feeling extremely upset.
“I…” She wanted to apologize and take the blame.
She had done the same when she offended customers before.
She just hadn’t been able to control her emotions this time.
“We don’t care,” Sandra sneered. “I’m actually looking forward to how the police will interrogate us.”
She took a step forward, exuding a daunting aura.
“The police will definitely ask why your wife came to this small coffee shop.”
She pointed towards the hospital across the street.
“Is someone important to you living there?”
The man’s expression suddenly changed..
He panicked at once.
“You…”
“Honey, what’s wrong?” The woman couldn’t help but ask.
The man grabbed her hand. “Let’s go home.”
“No, I want to teach them a lesson!”
“Don’t embarrass yourself!” The man growled.
The woman was taken aback. “Why are you yelling at me for the sake of two strangers?”
The man gritted his teeth. “We’ll talk about this at home!”
Sandra interjected, “You came to the hospital together, why were you here buying coffee while your husband went in alone?”
The woman was momentarily puzzled. She clearly hadn’t considered
- it.
Sandra reminded her.
“Besides the renowned neurology department, the obstetrics and gynecology department is also famous at that hospital.”
The woman instantly understood.
She turned to interrogate her husband, “Are you cheating on me?”
The man couldn’t explain himself clearly.
The woman became enraged and scratched his face.
The man fought back in a rage.
Sandra turned around and comforted Rebecca quietly.
“Don’t be afraid in situations like this. Protecting yourself is the right thing to do.”
Rebecca was still a little confused about how things had unfolded.
She hadn’t even heard clearly what Sandra had said, but she quickly.
nodded.
Afterwards, the coffee shop resumed business and Rebecca went to change her clothes.
Worried, Sandra followed Rebecca in and applied some medicine to
her wounds.
“By the way, Sandra, how did you know that man had a mistress?”
Sandra earnestly combed Rebecca’s hair and tied it into a ponytail.
“He had the smell of breast milk on him, and he had a wristband used by the obstetrics and gynecology department.”
Rebecca asked seriously.
“Maybe he was visiting a relative or friend?”
Sandra smiled, “If that were the case, the woman should accompany
him.”
If it was a relative or friend, the man shouldn’t be present when a mother was breastfeeding.
Rebecca thought about it and admired Sandra’s keen observation.
“You’re amazing. It seems like there’s nothing in this world that can
stump you.”
Sandra didn’t respond to that. She just asked, “How did you end up working here?”
“Oh, I got into graduate school this year, so I’m earning some pocket. money,” Rebecca replied.
Sandra nodded. “What’s your field of study?”
“Biomedical science.”
Rebecca had a few bruises and scrapes on her body, but it didn’t affect her work, so she didn’t take time off and persisted in going to
work.
Sandra couldn’t persuade her otherwise and could only let her do ast she pleased.
However, after Sandra walked out of the coffee shop, the manager approached Rebecca.
“Rebecca, tidy up.”
Rebecca was scared. “Sir, are you… going to fire me?”
The manager glanced in the direction Sandra had left.
“No, the higher–ups think you’re doing a great job and are preparing to promote you.”
Rebecca was overjoyed. “Really? That’s great! Thank you. I’ll work
hard.”
Sandra had just left the coffee shop when she saw Wesley coming. towards her in his wheelchair.
“How did you know I was here?” She asked.
Wesley glanced at the coffee shop’s name and said calmly, “Leo can
see you in the car.”
Sandra had forgotten about Leo.
She chuckled softly, “How did you come out so quickly? Didn’t you talk with your childhood sweetheart?”
Wesley’s face darkened.
“It’s okay. I’m not in a hurry. Go chat with her. I’m going shopping.”
There was a famous Metro Mall near the hospital, and she wanted to
take a look there.
She ignored Wesley’s gloomy expression and turned around to leave.
Leo ran over and asked, “Mr. Cooper, should we follow?”
Wesley closed his eyes, rubbed his forehead, and asked, “Where is the expert?”
“He’s waiting in the car.”
