Chapter 22 A Moment Of Peace
The sun was down by the time we got back to the house. Chance froze and stared into the darkness. I knew he sensed the gargoyles, “Easy Chance, they are friends.” He looked at me curiously. “There’s something supernatural nearby, four of them and they aren’t werewolves.” I nodded my head, “You’re right, they aren’t werewolves. They are allies, they helped to cure Quinn when your rogue hunters attacked us.” Chance appeared to relax a little. ‘Cordelia, can you hear me,’ I mentally called Cordelia. ‘Greetings Reese, I hear you,’ she replied. ‘Please notify Goliath that we have a new powerful ally, a human named Chance. He has supernatural abilities that help him track supernatural beings. He knows you and the clan are close but I don’t think he knows that you are gargoyles. Please ask Goliath how he wants to proceed.’ Cordelia’s voice echoed in my mind, ‘Of course.’
I watched Chance as he pulled camping gear from his truck and assembled his tent. “We can find you room in the house if you like,” I offered. “Thank you kindly, Silver, I am content with my tent.” He grinned at his pun. Peyton padded out the front door, “Is there room for me in there, Daddy?” Chance lifted his eyes to meet her gaze, “Of course Darlin, I had a feeling you might want to bunk with me. I brought your cot.” A twinge of jealousy slashed my heart, I desperately wished my own parents were as kind and thoughtful as Chance. I evaluated my desire to reconnect to my parents with the possibility of their continued rejection and hatred. The prospect seemed doomed, I scrubbed the thought from my mind.
Quinn disappeared into the house; I stood in the front yard lost in thought. “You doing okay over there, Silver,” Chance’s voice floated through the air. “Yeah, just lost in thought,” was my reply. I followed Quinn into the house. I found most of my pack standing around the kitchen island. I greeted them and checked in with them. Naturally they were frustrated with current events, but they seemed optimistic. I felt exhausted, I needed cuddles. I trudged into my bathroom and into the shower. I didn’t care that my clothes were still on. The hot water helped to relax me.
The bathroom door opened and Quinn padded into the room, “What are you doing Hun,” she called to me gently, “You still have your clothes on.” My voice sounded beyond exhausted, “Yeah so?” She stepped in behind and wrapped her arms around my waist. She tenderly kissed my neck. “It’s going to be okay, Sweetie. I know there’s alot going on right now. Things will get back to normal soon.” I twisted around to face her, “Normal? Quinn what is normal? Can you remember one time in the last two years that we weren’t fighting for our lives against one bad guy or another, or frantically searching for a magical flower. Quinn our ‘normal’ life is constant fighting and dang…” she cut me off with a passionate kiss on my lips.
All of my stress disappeared and I melted into her arms. “Reese, look at me, Baby,” Quinn lifted my chin with a finger so our eyes met. “The last couple years have been hard, I won’t lie to you. Listen, life won’t always be so difficult. We are just getting into the swing of things. Everything will settle down soon. We won’t always be fighting for our lives. Look at the astonishing progress you have made as a woman and the Alpha. You built a family, you’ve found them a home, you’ve protected and cared for them.” She kissed my forehead, “Reese you are absolutely amazing! I’m so incredibly proud of you!”
Tears rolled down my cheek, Quinn noticed, concern filled her eyes. “No,” I shook my head, “Happy tears.” She smiled gently and repeated, “Happy tears.” She kissed my lips, “Now, why don’t we get out of these wet clothes, have a nice hot shower, and then cuddle till we fall asleep?” I nodded happily. I hungrily watched her as she pulled her top up over her head. She noticed my gaze and chuckled “See something you like?” “Two things,” I murmured, mesmerized by her glorious form. Quinn laughed and replied, “Your turn. Take off your shirt.” I happily obeyed. “Gorgeous, absolutely gorgeous,” she complimented.
We took turns rubbing soap all over each other. Her touch intoxicated me, drove me up the wall. I wanted more, I needed more of her hands all over me. I moaned as her fingers drew an imaginary line across my waist. “Please Quinn,” I whimpered. My body stiffened as her fingers inched lower and lower, “Please what,” she urged, “Tell me what you want.” I pushed her hand down between my legs. Quinn smiled and kissed my neck.
When I awoke, I was cuddled tightly against Quinn’s chest with her arms snuggled around me. I felt safe, happy, and satisfied. She really knew how to use her tongue. I smiled at the memories of her touch. The sun blazed down through the curtains, it had to be late afternoon. Quinn tightened her grip on me, “No, you’re staying here with me today,” her voice lazily whispered. I smiled, “What if I have to pee?” “One exception,” she growled. “What about coffee,” I asked. She opened one eye and glared at me, “Do I have to take away your ability to walk? I can if I need to,” she licked her lips to drive her point home. “I double dog dare you,” I challenged. That woke her up real quick. “Just remember, you said it,” she warned. She slid down the bed and opened my knees. I squealed in delight as she explored my thighs with her tongue.
Quinn followed through on her promise, my legs were so shaky I couldn’t walk. She crawled back into bed with me and enveloped me with her arms. I couldn’t stop smiling. My body quivered as a second wave of intense pleasure washed over me, “Aftershock,” Quinn cooed, “Good girl.” I was so comfortable wrapped tight in Quinn’s embrace. I felt so safe and happy with her. Everything was perfect as long as I stayed snuggly entangled in her grasp. The sweet release of sleep took me.
A loud knocking on our door woke me with a start. Quinn growled, “better be important.” She raised her voice, “Who is it?” A muffled voice drifted through the door, “Reese, Quinn, the new furniture is here. Want to come supervise?” Quinn grumbled something rude under her breath. “That’s not nice,” I scolded. I directed my voice to the door, “Give me a second and I’ll be there.” Quinn frowned, her eyes pleaded with me to stay. My heart shattered, she needed cuddles as much as I did, maybe more. Last time she begged me to stay, I left and never came back like I had promised. “Ya know what, I’ll deal with the furniture later. I need more Quinn Time,” I whispered to her, her eyes lit up like brilliant stars in the night sky.
“I’m sorry, Quinn, I have neglected you. I’ve been spending so much time with the pack and the enemies. You are the most important person in my life and I haven’t been treating you like I should have. I do not know what I’d do without you.” Her eyes got misty, “You’re important to me too Reese. You’re my world.” It was my turn to get all misty eyed. I kissed her and held her tight.
