Chapter 9
Monty, is lost. This chest in the Sullivan’s basement, is proving to be a bit of a mystery. To him, it does not seem to fit. He feels it is not of Irish origin. This is just s feeling he has. He has not found any evidence to support this view, so he knows not why he feels this way. What makes it all worse, is not believing any of this mythology rubbish.
This is all getting out of hand. It would be no problem at this stage of the “case”, to make up a convincing explanation, come up with some sort of convincing ritual to cast all of the evil spirits back to where they came from, collect his fee and be off.
Monty was not content with this normal approach, he desired to come up with the real explanation of what is actually happening. This was not the way he does things. Considering his complete lack of believe in all this mythology crap. He just could not accept taking anything from Gloria Sullivan that he has not earned.
Monty decided he will not be able to let this mystery go. He needs to find out what is going on.
Having come to a dead end, Monty needed some more information if he was to get to the bottom of this mystery. Monty arranged a meeting with Frank and Gloria Sullivan to see if he could find a bit more about where the mysterious chest has come from.
The last person who may have known anything about the chest, would have been Frank’s grandfather, the one who had told Frank, when he was a boy, to just leave it alone. The only other information Frank could pass on was that he remembers his great Aunt Mary telling many legends and myths from the old country to a group of youngsters all gathered around her feet. She was the last one alive of the family to have made the journey out from Ireland. Her twin brother had been one of those that had died on that journey.
As neither Frank nor Gloria had any direct knowledge regarding the chest, their only option would to search the old family records for any mention of its existence, so it was arranged that, Monty would come out to the Sullivan mansion on the weekend, when the three of them would search the basement for any information they could find.
Monty gave copies of the photos he had of the old chest to the Paranormal Detective fans to see what they could find. He would be searching the Sullivan basement, this weekend, but they may also be able to find out more about the mysterious chest.
So 10:am Saturday morning, bright and early for him, Monty, with a fresh coffee in his hand, was ready to search the basement for more information. He sat at the island in the Sullivan kitchen as he informed Gloria and Frank about the sort of things to look for.
Gloria found herself compelled to sit quite close to Monty. There was no logic to this as the kitchen island that the three of them where seated around, was somewhat roomy. Something inside her head seemed to be forcing her to be as close as possible to Monty, As there was plenty of space and four sides to the island this was all a bit strange. Frank noticed this. This was not normal behavior for his daughter Gloria. Monty himself thought this was all a bit strange, but it felt so right to be this close to Gloria. Gloria herself felt so safe and protected. Gloria had to fight off the urge to move even closer, lean up against him, actual physical contact, cuddle up against him.
Monty began to speak. “We are looking for anything that the family may have brought over with them from the old country. What that may be, I have not the slightest clue. What they brought with them may not be much as they would not have had much more than themselves when they came across.”
After several hours of searching, the three of them found many interesting things, but nothing that went back to the old country or the trip across the Atlantic. After around three hours they all returned to the kitchen and prepared and ate a light lunch.
The afternoon followed the mornings effort. Many interesting things where found, but none of them, what they were looking for.
By 6:00 pm, they came to the conclusion that they had all had enough for the day. A decision was made, it would be takeway food tonight, as all quite tired, preparing a cooked meal did not seem to be an option. Gloria and Monty were going to stay at the mansion tonight. They all intended to make an early start Sunday morning and give it one more chance. If nothing useful turned up from tomorrow’s search of the basement at the Sullivan’s mansion, they would need to come up with another approach. The three of them were all in their beds by 10:00 pm.
That night the three of them dreamed the same dream. This dream was most vivid, intense and felt more realistic than all of their previous dreams.
This dream was different to any of the previous dreams they had experienced. Frank was not the bystander this time, the inconspicuous one off to the side, not actively taking part. As usual, the Leprechaun O’Hara, was included. In this dream, there was also a new face, an old Roma Gypsy woman, Lavinia.
Monty, being the expert he was, has quite a knowledge of these traveling people, originally from northern India. Inside his head, it was as if a light had just been switched on. The chest in the basement was not of Irish or European origin, but possibly Indian. The symbols are possibly Sanskrit, and ancient language he is not that familiar with, but he should be able to find plenty of useful information back at the Brooklyn College Library.
The Roma Gypsy tradition contains much mythology. Many are wary of the power of Gypsies, many people get scared coming across them in the street. If you get on the wrong side of them, a Gypsy will place a curse on you, this curse can make your life a misery until you can appease them, and they lift the curse. Gypsies are also known by their fortune-telling ability. Monty did not believe any of this mythical bullshit, but wondered why, suddenly appearing in his dream, Lavinia, the old Roma Gypsy woman. Lavinia, seemed to be well aquatinted with the Leprechaun O’Hara.
