Chapter 46 c
Tasya stared at her mother, who was sitting in front of her. Her posture was still the same; relaxed, leaning comfortably on the edge of the sofa. It felt as if they were sitting in a secluded place with an epic backdrop, whether it be a beach or a mountain with lush green trees.
"Mom... how are you?"
Abigail turned and gave her a sharp look. "What do you think?"
"Nurse Olin said you've been healthy here. No excessive issues. Yesterday, Ronan mentioned that you complained about the bed being uncomfortable. They replaced it, right?" "Yes," Abigail replied curtly.
Tasya sighed softly. She felt like her mother was angry with her. Their last meeting, following the consultation with Respati, hadn't involved much conversation. Besides her mother's sudden silence, Tasya had also been warned not to say anything that might upset her, especially given her mother's current situation.
During her consultation with Respati, Abigail spoke in a melancholic tone about being forced to stay here. Despite her obligations to take care of her children, she believed that her three kids were still young and needed her attention. "I hate being here, but why do I have to be here?" she had asked at one point.
Tasya had been informed about this because it was part of the counseling her mother would undergo. The goal was to make her feel better with each visit from her children, eventually making her believe that she belonged here. "Is Mom angry?" Tasya asked softly.
"Yes," Abigail replied, giving Tasya a brief glance before turning away and leaning back comfortably, this time closing her eyes. There was a sense that she didn't want to talk more with Tasya this afternoon. Abigail felt that Tasya should be kept at a distance.
Tasya sighed softly again.
"Dr. Evelyn said you have a friend? Mrs. Maria?"
"Maria is nice, unlike you, who are mean."
If Tasya hadn't been holding onto the edge of the sofa, she might have walked out of the room. It wasn't that she didn't want to hear everything her mother was saying, but she couldn't bear to look into her mother's judgmental eyes. It was as if her presence alone was the reason Abigail was here.
"I'm also confused why Tasya is mean. After all, I'm her mother. I don't want my child to be hurt. Even though her father only knows gambling and women, she's still paying attention to Tasya. Is my child blind or something?" Tasya blinked in disbelief. "Women...?"
"Are you Tasya?" Abigail stared intensely at her daughter. "Why are you here? Aren't you satisfied with just bringing me here? I'm not crazy, you know! Not crazy!!!"
Clearly, Tasya couldn't move at all. Not only was she shocked by her mother's words, which she had just learned now. Tasya had to admit that her father was incredibly foolish. How could he invest everything he had on the gambling table? At first, it seemed like he always had good luck, but as time went on, the gambling trap didn't seem to make him quit until it was too late.
It was curiosity driven by those early victories that kept her father returning to the gambling table.
But as for fooling around with women? Tasya had only found out about that after all this time. She remembered the days when her father was still around. Wasn't her mother always showered with money? Allowed to go wherever she pleased? Even having a group of socialite friends that Tasya now realized, one by one, had distanced themselves? They had all seen her mother's presence as a nuisance.
So... what did her mother mean this time? Was it just a form of ranting?
"You damn child! Have no respect! Mama is healthy! Not crazy!"
Tasya fell back. Her head felt hot, and her body was slightly sore in some places. What she now realized was that her mother was on top of her, pulling her hair without letting go. Her mother's eyes glared with rage. All sorts of curses filled the room where they were supposed to talk.
"Why don't you just join your father, huh? Die already! Die!!!"

The girl with bangs let out a long sigh. The scratches on her hands had been treated, but the stinging sensation still lingered. A lot. It wasn't just her hands that suddenly hurt; her heart did too. Her eyes occasionally glanced at the room with the slightly open window. Her mother lay there, covered in special clothes to prevent further outbursts.
According to the observations of the doctor and nurses who had been taking care of Abigail for the past week, her condition had shown significant improvements. She was calm, not easily provoked, and had good interactions with the people around her. There was nothing suspicious. But why did all the progress indicators plummet as soon as she started talking to Tasya?
"Are you... okay?" Evelyn, the psychiatrist who had been treating Abigail at this hospital, asked. She approached the girl who had been unwilling to leave her mother's room for a moment. Evelyn was sure the girl was in a tremendous state of shock.
"Ah, Doctor," Tasya immediately stood up and accepted the doctor's handshake as a form of courtesy.
"Let's talk in my office, alright? Your mother is much calmer now," Evelyn said with a warm expression. She smiled to reassure Tasya.
"Thank you, Doctor."
Evelyn nodded slightly and then showed the way to her office, motioning for Tasya to enter first.
"Is it getting better?" Evelyn asked to make sure Tasya was ready to talk. This question came after a somewhat long pause once they were inside her office.
"Not really," Tasya replied.
"Must have been a shock, huh?"
Tasya hesitated but couldn't deny that the incident had taken her by surprise. Eventually, she nodded.
"I, as the doctor handling your mother, was also surprised, Tasya."
The bespectacled girl fell silent.
"May I... know more about your family? So that our team here can do our best for Abigail."
Tasya was stunned for a while.
"Because it seems like your mother is really severely depressed. But why are you the target?" "What do you mean?"
"The visit from Ronan some time ago, Tasya, it wasn't like this."
The girl knew about Ronan's visit a while back. She also knew about her mother's condition. Tasya had only just visited because, as usual, Nathan was skilled at making her work late, coupled with her busy preparations for their wedding. "Mom didn't get angry when she met Ronan, but she got angry when she met me?" Tasya raised her gaze. Their eyes met even through the layers of glasses she was wearing. Tasya understood there was a sympathetic, compassionate look in there. "So... am I the one making Mom more stressed?"
