Chapter Mysteries We Cannot Comprehend
“What do you mean, no?! I worked so hard to make this place secret, and you went and let spies in!” Mr. Ōkami yells.
“I made a deal with them. I told them I could kill them, or they could work for us. They’re on our side. If not, I told them we would find and kill their families,” I explain.
“…I see…” Mr. Ōkami says. “I should rank you down for that. Strike you across the face and scar you, perhaps…but… I’ll let it pass. Those two BETTER work, or else I will personally track them down and give them the slowest, most agonizing, death I can think up…”
“Aye aye, Alpha!” the squirrel says, panicking and saluting.
The fruit bat, also panicking, bows low. Mr. Ōkami shakes his head. He’s clearly not happy, but at the very least, he isn’t going to kill the two. Instead, he goes and fetches the rest of our food from storage so we can eat.
“The servants may share a bread roll,” Mr. Ōkami says, pushing a slightly burnt bread roll towards the squirrel and bat. “You’ll need energy if you want to serve me.”
“T-thank you, Alpha,” the squirrel says.
“I have an announcement,” I say as Alpha is about to eat his share of the food.
“ANOTHER announcement? Suisen, please…” Mr. Ōkami grumbles.
“I encountered a messenger today… She told me to tell you guys… “The lion watches over us”,” I report.
“Messenger? Lion? What are you blabbing about?!” Frost grumbles
“I will find out more information later, but that is what I’ve been told. I believe the lion may have saved us from capture, and blessed us with a bountiful hunt,” I say.
“Is that so? Most lions would gobble up wolves by the dozen…but if there is a lion on our side…” Mr. Ōkami says. “I should like to meet this lion.”
“So would I…but I’m not sure if it’s possible,” I say.
“Alright, enough blabbering. We feast!” Mr. Ōkami says with a grin.
We again feast to our hearts content. The pile of leftovers only seems to grow. We have enough leftovers to feed 45 more wolves! Again, we put the leftovers in the coldest part of the den. I literally can’t eat any more, my belly is so full. I belch, but even that barely helps.
“Wonderful hunting. I doubted you guys, but you succeeded…” Mr. Ōkami says, lying down with his overly filled belly in the air. “Man, that tastes soooo good…”
I then go to check on the others, stumbling a bit under the weight of my own belly. I find Chain to still be stable. He’s had a little to eat and is continuing to rest up. Even Hash is healing a little…though she still looks horrible.
“Hi, how’s it going?” I ask.
“Pain…” Hash groans.
Frostt enters the room, casting me a sour glance briefly. She gently lays Quickie down and begins cleaning and tending to her wounds. More blood smell and spilt guts… I might puke my dinner if I stay much longer.
“Luckily, the intestines haven’t been torn… They’re still working, just tugged a bit out of place…” Frostt says, gently pushing the intestines back into the torn open abdomen. “If I can heal Hash, I can heal Quickie.”
“I believe in you. Keep up the good work,” I say.
“Hey! Don’t belittle me! Don’t you dare act like you’re above me! You NEVER will be!” Frostt growls.
“I was trying to be nice…” I mumble, stalking away.
I head off to find Jewel, half expecting Frostt to attack me on my way out. This woman’s got problems… I find Viper curling up with Jewel in the nursery. Jewel’s gotten even bigger, no freaking way…
“Jewel, are you alright?” I ask.
“I don’t know what went wrong. He’s now tripled in size instead of shrinking down…” Jewel says, panting.
“That looks painful,” I comment, giving her a lick.
“Our pack continues to expand,” Viper says. “I’m hoping this little one doesn’t also multiply…”
Even just standing here, I can see the mass inside of Jewel writhing. She’s in a lot of pain, but she volunteered for this role that wasn’t even supposed to be her’s. I wonder, if I were an Omicron, if I would be in charge of unbirthing injured wolves. It’s been a long day, and I’m tired.
“Kurai, keep an eye on the servants. Don’t let them escape,” Mr. Ōkami says, nudging the squirrel and bat towards the tiny black wolf.
“You trust me with them?” Kurai asks, looking a bit surprised. “What if I suddenly decide to eat them?”
“You can take that up with Suisen. I’m sure she’d be pleased to know you ate the servants,” Mr. Ōkami says, glancing at me.
“You better not, Kurai,” I say, snarling slightly.
“Oh pleeeeeease do not eat me…” the fruit bat says.
“Hmmm, I would, but Suisen says I shouldn’t…” Kurai says, then, quickly, she adds, “Y’know, because she’s a much higher rank than me?”
Teasingly, Kurai licks the bat while staring right at me. I snarl threateningly. Kurai chuckles and escorts the servants away. I follow promptly.
“I’m not gonna eat you guys, I’m actually pretty full…or am I…? Hmmm… Maybe I could find room for a little bat and a little squirrel!” Kurai teases, prodding her belly.
“I’ve not been here very long, myself, but from what I can tell, she’s always like this…” I say to our hostages.
Iddi and Kibby, the two little boy pups who came from a set of three, come running in, barking. They trip over each other and roll into the cozy in a heap. I walk over and lick the little boys, making sure they are alright. They’ve got a bit of blood on their faces from eating earlier so I lick them clean.
“Thanks mommy!” Iddi says, laughing.
“She not mommy! She strange!” Kibby says, but he lets me clean him as well.
“Rest well, little ones. We don’t know what tomorrow has own store for us…” I say with a big yawn.
“Night mommy,” Iddi says, also yawning.
Walk enters the room and sees the pups are hanging out with me. Cautiously, she approaches as though I’m going to hurt her. She snags both pups by the scruff and runs off. Well, it is rightfully her job to look after the adopted pups… Walk and Bounce have 13 pups to take care of right now. Frostt has three, Hash, Chain, and Quickie. I have 1, Kurai, and the others are inside of Jewel and Viper.
“Goodnight, Kurai,” I say.
“Goodnight, Suisen,” Kurai says. “Goodnight delicious servants…”
Morning comes and I hear yelling. Confused I get up, stretching. Kurai is actually snuggling the two servants. I’m surprised she didn’t sneak and eat them while we were sleeping.
“VICIOUS!” Mr. Ōkami yells.
“Y-yes, Alpha…?” Vicious asks.
I peer out of Kurai’s Cozy, not wanting to be spotted eavesdropping. Vicious looks terrible today. She smells so strongly of poop and pee that I can smell it from where I am standing. Something must have happened overnight.
“Why do you stink so badly?! And why have I found your feces outside of our designated poop spot?!” Mr. Ōkami yells.
“I… I honestly don’t know…” Vicious says, looking utterly defeated.
“You DON’T know?! Have you lost your mind?!” Mr. Ōkami yells. “You KNOW I can’t stand filthy nasty creatures! You’re just as bad as Kurai!”
“I’m sorry…” Vicious says.
“I would strike you, but then my paw would get filthy. You’re so dirty, I can’t even TOUCH you!” Mr. Ōkami exclaims, gagging.
Mr. Ōkami ends up puking right on top of Vicious’ head. She whimpers, humiliated. Mr. Ōkami walks away, still gagging. Vicious slowly skids across the floor, leaving a trail of feces and urine.
I emerge, not trying to look too suspicious. Vicious notices me and scurries faster to a random crevice. She’s only 12 years old, it couldn’t possibly be bladder failure or bowel failure causing this issue. I decide to check in with Jewel and Viper first so not to stress Vicious out further.
Has Jewel started shrinking yet? No. The biggest issue with this is that she isn’t even that big of a wolf. She’s now four times the size she was when she first took Brain in. Viper is also bigger now at twice the size she was yesterday.
“Still growing…” Jewel mutters, noticing me standing in the room.
“I’m sorry…” I say with a sigh.
“I got myself into this mess…” Jewel groans.
“I’ll be back. I have to check on a few more people…” I say, casting one more sad glance at Jewel.
I head to the healing den and find Chain has started bleeding again. His wounds have reopened when I had thought they were finally healing. Still no progress on Hash’s healing, but she’s still stable. Quickie, however, is healing.
I think, from this, I can tell which pup Frostt put most of her attention on overnight. Frostt isn’t in at the moment so I give chain a lick and gently press on the bleeding spot again. He won’t heal if he keeps bleeding. As I am holding the pressure, Frostt enters the room, of course.
“Hey! What in the heck are you doing?!” Frostt asks.
“He was bleeding again…” I say.
“Because you bit him?!” Frostt asks.
“No, I don’t know why he’s bleeding again,” I say.
“Get out of here! Let ME handle it!” Frostt says with a snarl.
“Come switch places with me, then. Gotta get the bleeding to stop,” I say.
“You can’t tell me what to do! You’re below me! Shoo!” Frostt says, biting my ankle.
“Ow!” I exclaim and abandon the bleeding pup.
Frostt shoves me out of the way and begins licking the pup’s wound. Magic saliva or not, he’ll need more than just that. It’s Frostt’s fault if he dies because she won’t let me help. I emerge from the room and track down Vicious.
“Go away!” Vicious growls.
“Vic, are you alright?” I ask.
“Vic…? Nobody calls me Vic…” Vicious says, looking surprised.
“Sorry, is that not okay?” I ask.
“…it’s fine…I just…I need to be alone…” Vicious says.
“Vic, what happened? Are you having an emergency?” I ask.
“I woke up covered in waste, of course I’m having an emergency… Alpha seems to think I exploded my waste everywhere on purpose…” Vicious says, quivering.
“You could use a bath… Do we have any water that ISN’T for drinking?” I ask.
“Not really, no… We just lick ourselves, but I can’t bring myself to lick this much filth…” Vicious says with a sigh.
I scoot a little closer. Vicious, startled by my approach, snarls again. I lick her face…YUCK! NASTY! She definitely tastes worse than Kurai.
“Don’t bother…” Vicious says. “I may as well resign myself to being an Omega until I eventually die…”
Something isn’t quite right… This smell…it’s not Vicious… Someone else defecated on her… I frown deeply.
“Vic, something else is going on here. I don’t think this is your own fault,” I say.
“How is this NOT my own fault?” Vicious asks, staring wide-eyed at me.
“I think someone set this up to frame you,” I state.
“I mean, I was already stinky yesterday before this happened. Why would anyone want to make me even stinkier?” Vicious asks.
I take a deep whiff of the crude scent… Where have I smelled this before…? It’s not Mr. Ōkami, Kurai, or Frostt…nor Toosh… Keeping the scent in mind, I clean Vicious despite the nasty taste and her struggling to get away from me.
“Pleh, all clean,” I say, maybe 30 minutes later.
Vicious looks pretty again. Underneath all that brown and yellow, she’s a pearly white color. Yesterday, she was a crusty light brown with a little bit of yellow stains on her toosh. My tongue feels horrible after licking all that waste.
“Whoa…” Vicious says, looking at her newly cleaned fur. “I’m beautiful…”
“Yes, yes, you are!” I say.
“I’m clean! I’m clean!” Vicious exclaims, leaping for joy.
Now…to track down who filthed Vicious. I begin sniffing around, trying to pick through the thousands of scents. Which one is closest to the smell I had sniffed before? Begin tracking, leading back to the den Vicious came from.
No, not here… I turn around and find myself heading for the poop area. We don’t have any actual toilets or plumbing unlike in the city. It took me awhile to get used to pooping in a pile.
I walk the pile, following the scent to an area with poopy paw prints. Someone didn’t even bother covering their trail. I snarl a bit, continuing to follow the trail.
