Chapter 2095
Chapter 2095 I Have Got An Idea
Patrick nodded with regret written all over his face. “Yes. I poured most of my life savings along with my blood, sweat, and tears into the research lab, yet I haven’t achieved a satisfactory result even until now. I regret it!”
Upon hearing that, Davin and Sheila were dumbstruck. They looked at each other, for they had both mistakenly assumed that he had realized the error of his ways and repented. Unexpectedly, Patrick continued, “I regret not starting the research earlier. If I had begun ten years earlier, the research results would definitely be of satisfaction to me. But it’s too late. Even if I regret it now, I don’t have much time left.”
Sheila was promptly stupefied. Davin was similarly surprised. Truth be told, Patrick’s complete reversal shocked them.
“Dad, are you saying that if you were given a new lease on life, you’d still choose to set up the research lab and continue researching…” that despicable technology that steals other companies’ confidential information unscrupulously?
Davin hadn’t the courage to voice out the latter half of his utterance, so he merely completed it inwardly.
In response, Patrick nodded. “I would’ve started earlier. But, it’s too late to say all that now!”
Subsequently, he again lamented the fickleness of life and the fact that he had never expected himself to have only two months left to live. He grieved while bemoaning his fate, looking no different from someone who had been sentenced to death by some disease and was praying for a ray of survival.
Layla walked over to him and comforted him.
Sheila remained frozen to the spot, so Davin tugged at her sleeve. They both proceeded to walk out of the room.
When they reached the living room, Davin leaned close to her. “I think there’s no cure for your father. Even with his death close at hand, he isn’t the least bit remorseful.”
“Right back at your father. That should be my line. Don’t you think you’re being too awful in your speech, Davin?”
“I’m just speaking the truth. I don’t mean anything else. You heard your father’s remarks earlier too, didn’t you? What do you think we should do?”
“Oh well, it looks like we have to figure out another way.”
“Anyway, don’t tell your father about the fake medical report yet. Let’s wait until we’ve figured out another method before doing anything.”
“But, is there a chance that he’ll really contract some kind of disease from the fright? I mean, look at his sorrowful look just now. He really thinks that he’s going to die soon. I don’t think I can take this much longer!”
“Of course not! If you were to tell him that the medical report is fake and he’s not terminally ill but hale and hearty, I can guarantee you that he’ll definitely go running back to the research lab and continue the research at all costs.”
Sheila said nothing, merely casting a glance at Davin.
Deep down, she knew that he was right.
After all, that was exactly what Patrick admitted to a while ago.
Ugh! What should we do now? How can we get him to give up the research?
The two of them sat on the couch in silence. All of a sudden, a light bulb seemingly went off in Sheila’s head, for her eyes lit up abruptly.
“I know! Davin, I’ve got it!”
“What have you got?” Davin was at an utter loss.
“I’ve got an idea.” Sheila then leaned close to him and whispered into his ear.
Davin gaped at her in surprise. “Your idea isn’t entirely unfeasible, but…”
“But what? Do you think it’ll be difficult to convince those few people in the research lab?”
Davin nodded in affirmation. “Yeah. They were all hired by your father at a high price, so how could they possibly listen to you easily?”
However, Sheila patted herself on the chest and declared, “A few days ago, I heard a few lines at the set that went like this—Everyone has a weakness. When you manage to grasp the person’s weakness and utilize it appropriately, you can control him well and use him to your benefit. I’d like to try whether that’s really the case.”
“Those were lines used in a fictional setting while this is reality. Will it work?” Davin regarded her with some reservations.
“All fiction originates from reality. Besides, how do we know that it won’t work when we’ve never tried it? This is a mess my father created, so let me give it a try. At worse, the results will be this situation at present. But what if it works? Then, the issue will be resolved!”
There was no better solution right then, so Davin agreed. As soon as he nodded in agreement, Sheila shot to her feet. “Let’s go right away! My father doesn’t have the presence of mind to bother about anything else now, so this is the best time for us to act.”
