Mission: From Divorcee to Millionaire

Chapter 23

Everett lifted his eyelids, a touch of challenge in his voice. "Let's see what you do." With that, he leaned back into the couch, his long fingers pinching the bridge of his nose. He was clearly feeling uncomfortable.

Whenever he overdid it on the drinks, Selena would always be there, tending to him with care. She knew he had a tendency to get headaches after drinking too much, so she'd even learned some massage techniques from an expert. After giving him some coffee, she'd guide him to bed and work her magic with a massage. This ritual not only helped him sleep blissfully but also spared him from the dreaded hangover the next day.

His current state was a clear message. If she wanted that divorce, she'd have to take care of him first.

Selena stood there momentarily as if gathering her courage, then flashed a bright smile and nodded. "I'll do it."

With that, she turned on her heel and headed out.

"Where are you off to?"

"Mr. Everett, I'm just going to get a few things ready. Be back in a jiffy," Selena said with a playful wink, her dark eyes sparkling.

It was just like old times when she'd tease him with her playful antics. She seemed to be back to her usual self. Everett's frown eased, and a hint of a smile played on his lips.

Once she was out of the bedroom, Selena's face turned stone-cold. The nerve of him, thinking she'd cater to his whims? Not a chance!

She grabbed her phone and fired off a quick text to Margot.

...

After his shower, Everett walked out in a loose bathrobe, only to find a slender silhouette waiting for him with a cup of coffee, gazing at him with tender affection.

...

By the time her phone rang, Selena

was already on the road. She glanced at the screen, which flashed

with the name "Jerk," and felta surge of irritation.

At a red light, she hit the brakes, popped in her Bluetooth headset, and answered.

The man's voice was deep and menacing, not bothering to hide his anger. "Did you send Margot over?"

Selena replied with a sarcastic smile, "No need to thank me. Just remember to sign the divorce papers!"

"When did you get so cocky?" His anger was palpable.

Selena was baffled. Compared to her, his not-so-favorite wife, wouldn't he have preferred his sweetheart to look after him?

Selena had even managed to stomach inviting Margot over, so what was Everett's problem?

Then it hit her he knew he was a handful when drunk and didn't want to burden his sweetheart with it, leaving Selena to deal with the aftermath.

A backup plan, indeed, and he would

feel less guilty using Selena. Her heart got struck again, leaving it raw as she gripped the steering wheel tighter.

"I've told you not to push my buttons." Even through the phone, his oppressive presence was felt.

Selena felt a wave of bleakness, realizing how foolish she'd been. She shot back, "So what if I do? You gonna call the cops?"

Her audacious tone seemed to push Everett to the edge, leaving him momentarily speechless. His heavy breathing was the only sound on the line.

Howler triumph, and

she couldn't resist adding, "You are acting all innocent after taking

advantage of me. I'm sick of people like you playing the victim! Take your side piece and get out of mydife!"
