Chapter 104
Selena pouted. Just the other day, Grace was all about Dr. Campbell, lamenting his unavailability. Now, she was Everett's biggest fan. Talk about a quick turnaround!
Selena couldn't shake the feeling that Everett's grand display today was a calculated move to win people over. That way, when the divorce eventually happened, everyone would point fingers at her, not him. Selena held Grace's hand and said, "Okay, I'll remember that."
Despite her words, her heart wasn't in it. Making things to work require efforts from two. He was the one who never wanted her by his side. No matter how hard she tried, she couldn't hold on to him. "Alright, you can go now. Take care of your husband; he's had quite a bit to drink and must be feeling awful," Grace said, waving her off.
Selena wasn't thrilled, mumbling, "Derick's with him."
When Everett drank, he was a handful or, more accurately, he only seemed to enjoy making her life difficult. One minute, he wanted this; the next, that. When a headache hit, his temper flared, and any slip-up from her was met with harsh words. She really wasn't in the mood to deal with his demands.
Unimpressed, Grace said, "He's your husband, not Derick's. Derick has had a long day, too; he needs his rest."
"Or are you suggesting I, or maybe Marian, should look after him?"
With the conversation heading that way, Selena reluctantly agreed, "Alright, alright, I'm going."
She stood up, tucked Grace in snugly, and left the room.
...
As Selena opened the door, Derick was just about to leave. His eyes lit up like she'd come to his rescue. "Ma'am, you're back. I'll leave Mr. Bennett to you, then. I'm out

With that, he gave her no time to respond, nudging her inside, swiftly exiting, and shutting the door behind him in one smooth motion. Selena rolled her eyes, her gaze settling on Everett lounging on the bed. Under the light, he looked as composed as ever, not a hint of a flush.
He was drunk-he just didn't show it on his face. He sat there silently, and if he didn't speak, you'd never guess he was as drunk as a skunk. Just as she was about to speak, he looked up, his lips parting to bark, "Selena, I need a drink. Get me some water!"
Who did he think he was bossing around? His tone was as annoying as ever.
When Selena wasn't moving, Everett frowned deeply, clearly annoyed.T was so accommodating today, making sure you looked good in
front of everyone, and you can't even get me a glass of water?"
Selena initially didn't want to cater to him, but his actions today had genuinely made Grandma happy.
She turned on her heel, went to the kitchen, warmed up a glass of milk, then headed back.
Sitting at the edge of the bed, she handed him the milk. "Here, drink up, and then hit the sack."
Everett glanced at the glass but
didn't take it. His eyes locked onto hers. His voice sounded lazy and husky with a hint of that irresistible charm.
"Feed me."
