Chapter 35: Ufarius
Ufarius lived in a small, quiet house on the outskirts of a small city named Featherrock. Living here, he had the peace and quiet needed to carry on his research.
Featherrock was named after a series of hills along the mountains to the east. The Featherrock Hills was a location where numerous birds flocked to during the warmer months. To the northwest of the city was the southern edge of the Palto Forest. Makloran was to the southwest; a little over a day’s journey by horseback.
Ufarius was asked by Fokar and Cupramos to research the items discovered in the hidden chest. Most important was to get as much information as possible about the black pearl on the scepter. The leather-bound manual was written in a language unfamiliar to even one as knowledgeable as Ufarius. The Wizard’s Guild was working on finding an interpreter.
He unconsciously twisted the magical ring on his finger, while looking over the latest spell results. These proved to be positive results. Indications were that there were several more black pearls similar to the one being studied. They seemed to be spread throughout the land, with the next nearest on the opposite side of the mountain range and to the north a bit.
As he was making notes of this new information, there was a knock on his door. Ufarius never had any visitors. The townspeople had been told to not go near his residence, or else risk the wrath of an elder wizard.
The knock came again.
Ufarius got up and walked to the door. Opening it, he was greeted by a young man wearing a tan robe.
“Good day, master.” said the young man. “I have been sent to be your interpreter.”
