Mathias (#1 The Chronicles of the Demon Wolf)

Chapter 22

Everyone goes into a deep silence. The Moon Goddess is coming for their mother. There was no hint of lies in Stefano’s eyes. He was right. He’d know this would happen eventually.

The real reason why Moon Goddess created Mira.

He was angry that it took him a while to realize all of these. All this time, he thought the Moon Goddess never expected this to happen as much as him. But he was wrong. She wanted this to happen. She wanted the demon wolf to be born.

And most of all, she wanted the demon wolf’s birth to cause Alistair broke free from the chain that had been holding him captive for thousands of years.

The supernatural species worship the Moon Goddess. They believe in her. They fought for her kingdom.

“What do you mean by that?” Mathias questions.

“A demon wolf’s life is always revolved around prophecies. One prophecy after the other. It would never end…” Stefano pause, “It never does…”

“I don’t get it,” Ryker butt in.

“The Moon Goddess planned the birth of a demon wolf even though she knew its birth would break Alistair free from the chain. She foresaw the future. She wrote the future to be where it is right now,” Stefano explains. “The Legion of Angels opposed this birth of a demon wolf because they saw the Moon Goddess’ obsession with it.”

“Moon Goddess supposed to be the good one!”

“You and your mother weren’t supposed to exist either!” Stefano flares. “But, let’s face it. The future has been rewritten. The survival of the supernatural world lies in your hands once more. That’s how it is for as long as the demon wolf walks on Earth.”

“Tanto…” Trixie’s soft voice pulls everyone back into reality.

Everyone turns their head to the Pixie. The marking on her body begins to fade away. When Trixie was young, she never had these markings on her body. It slowly showed on her skin as she grew up. Stefano explained it was just part of their nature. The green markings on her body were the symbol that Trixie was belonged to the nature.

When the markings fading from a pixie’s skin, it means their death is close by.

“No…no…” Tanto rushes to her, catching her body before she hit the ground. “Princess, what’s happening? These markings…they’re fading…”

The sparkles on her skin begins to fall to the ground as if she had just produced gold sparkles out of her pores.

“Uncle Stefano, c-c-can you help her?” Tanto’s voice stutters for the first time.

For the first time, his siblings saw the fear in his eyes. Tanto was the fearless one in the family. He was reckless at times but he never turned his back away from the danger even though he knew he never stood a chance.

He never showed his fear or weakness. Not even a bit. Everyone knew him as the happiest one among the siblings. He was the joker.

“H-He can’t help me, Tanto,” Trixie whispers. Her hands clutch onto the collar of his jacket. “The forest is dying…”

That’s the problem with green pixies. Their lives were tied to the health of the forest around them. The reason why green pixies are very rare type of pixies.

That was the final push that Mathias needed. He had to stop Arthur and Chelsea at any cost. He walked out of the room and headed to the basement. He has a very little chance of winning the battle but he would do everything he could to stop this.

“Mathias, stop!” Ryker shouts from behind.

“And what?” Mathias fumes. He’s angry. This is his doing. Now everyone around him is paying the price. “Dad is inside the tree. Momma is being chased by the Moon Goddess. Trixie is dying. Everyone is dying.”

“For starter, I’m not stopping you to go against Arthur and Chelsea on your own. I’m stopping you because you’re going to the wrong portal room.”

Mathias turns around and shakes his head. “That is the right portal room.”

“No, dummy. That’s already unstable. Stefano couldn’t close it. We’re using the other room.”

“You’re not coming.”

“That’s sad,” someone else spoke. “I thought the plan was involving the entire demon wolf’s family.”

“Griffin?” Mathias looked at his mother’s old acquaintance in confusion.

“I’m great. Thanks for asking.” Another’s voice emerged. “Jonathan Grover’s in the flesh.”

“Wow, you guys are a lot older than I’ve remembered.”

“It has been six months! Six mon-oww, my spine is killing me,” Grover frowned in pain. “So, kiddo, we’ve heard about what’s going on and that you have little army to go around.”

“Humans are not supposed to get involve,” Mathias told him.

“Once the supernatural species are dead, where does that leaves the humans? You think your big buddy Arthur De Vicenzo would leave humans alone after he’s done with you and your people?”

“Is he always this stubborn?” Mathias whispers to Griffin.

Griffin chuckles. “You should have seen your mother’s younger self.”

“As much as I wanted to do it with you guys, we stand no chance against Arthur’s army.”

“Come on.” Grover nodded to the portal.

Mathias wanted to protest about their involvement but he was too late when Grover stepped into the portal first. They stand no chance against Arthur, Chelsea and the hell monsters. Mathias had enough collateral damage. He doesn’t need more.

He was the last one to step into the portal. There, he was surprised.

“Thinking we have no backup eh?” Grover chuckled. “Well, we’re getting old and everything but it doesn’t mean the fire isn’t within us.”

Stand before them are the survived mercenaries who helped Mira to win the battle against Damien. After the event, everyone decided it was time to have a normal life without hiding away anymore. They moved apart from each other, getting married, having kids, and everything. But it doesn’t mean they forgot the bond they once had with Mira.

It was her who fought for their survival. It was her who gave them the chance of having a normal life after the ordeal. No matter how many times they teamed with her or her family, the debt they had with her would always remain.

And they would do it again. Supernatural or not, everything has balance. If Arthur and Chelsea wipe the supernatural species out, they would, for sure, coming for the mankind. It’s always that way.

“We have armored cars, big boy stuffs and all that,” Grover continued to say.

“Are these all that…” Mathias paused.

Griffin nodded. “Yes, this was your mother’s life work. Each one of them was saved by her.”

“Look, kid…” Grover approached Mathias. “They might not the army you wanted but they’re the army you needed.”

“Looks like we’ve got a plan.” Mathias smiled.
