Chapter 30 Meeting the elders
Sprinting to the door I remembered my promise to him. He wants me to stay in his room. But it is big news and I need to tell him. My body is so excited with all the adrenaline pumping through my blood. Well, he probably won’t be mad if I search for him and not just wander around.
Happy to know that we are really mates, I leave his room and here the door fall shut. I try to open it again, but I need a key. Well, no going back now.
I take two steps and look at the long hallway. Every door looks the same, very wall is the same color. I am lost without even leaving his room. Sighing and regretting my mistake, I let my eyes search for clues where to go.
I find the staircase and I think I better go to the ground floor. After walking a couple of stairs I almost bump into some young man.
‘Excuse me,’ I ask politely,’ can you show me where Igétas is? He’s having a meeting, is there a conference hall?’
The guy looks at me and tilted his head. After two seconds he still didn’t give me a reply.
‘Do you know where he is?’ I am losing my patience.
It looks like he is communicating with his wolf or with someone else.
‘Beta female, I bring you to Beta.’ He turns around and starts walking. I follow him through the staircase and pay attention to my surroundings, but it doesn’t matter, everything looks the same.
Finally, he stops in front of a door where a couple of men stand. Two look like pack members and two I don’t recognize.
‘Just knock and go in,’ the guy who guided me says.
‘I don’t think that’s a good idea,’ says one of the guards, and the other two nods agreeing.
‘It is okay, I will wait till they are finished.’ I say and before I can turn around the guy knocks on the door and walks off. Well, it looks more like running to me.
I see him disappear and the door opens, it is Amanda. ‘Hi, is Igétas here?’ I ask her and she opens the door completely and I see my mate, Alpha, and two other people standing in a circle.
‘It wasn’t my intention to interrupted. I didn’t knock.’ I added and Igétas looks at me, not mad but not happy either.
The Alpha is happier with my arrival and that worries me.
‘Come in, I love to meet you.’ I look at the old woman in a brown cloak. She looks sixty years old and her hair is still beautiful black. Her eyes give away her age just like her voice.
Unsure what to do, I make my way over to the four and Amanda closes the door and follows me.
Reaching the group, I take place next to Igétas who still didn’t say a word to me.
‘You must be Violet, I heard so much about you.’ She extends her hand and I reach for it. Igétas shows his displeasure by growling slowly. I change my intended handshake to a wave and the woman smiles.
‘I'm afraid I can't say the same,’ I look at Igétas and then the strangers before me, ‘I don’t think I know who you are.’
The woman smiles at me and tells me her name is Angeline and the man next to her is Alexander. ‘We are the elders.’ The man states with pride, but I just look with curious eyes at Igétas who looks tenser every second.
Tharros opens his mouth: ‘They are the wise werewolves who look after our world. If there is a problem, they try to guide us the right way.’
‘Problem? Like the rogue attacks?’ I ask and Igétas is clamming his jaws.
‘They are here for you, Violet,’ Amanda says and stands next to me.
‘I am a problem?’ I am so confused, ‘Did I do something wrong?’
‘No, ’ Igétas finally speaks, ‘you did nothing wrong.’
No one says a word and stays quiet. It is like the kids in school are talking behind your back and you join them and they are quiet. I hated that.
‘Well, let’s talk about me then,’ Igétas plans a hand on my shoulder, he must feel my anger spark up a little.
‘You are not a problem, you are a blessing to me.’ He says and I smile at him. His hand on my shoulder moves to my arm and he is rubbing the mate-tingles in my skin, calming me down.
I look at Amanda and her eyes lit up a bit. ‘I am new to all the werewolves stuff, but politics is the same in The Netherlands. Everything new, different, and unexpected will be viewed as a threat and maybe a problem. Let’s talk and see if I can ease your minds.’ I sigh and walk to the unused table and take a seat.
Angeline giggles and Amanda walks up to her. ‘I told you she was very open-minded.’
‘You did my dear, let’s talk with Violet present. I have a feeling we are here for nothing.’ She sighs.
Tharros looks more irritated and Igétas more relaxed.
‘I am sorry I went out of your room,’ I say whispering,’ but I figured it out.’ His eyebrows shoot up and then he relaxed his face.
Unsure if I need to share the information I don’t talk until everyone is seated.
‘Well, how do you want to do this?’ I ask the bunch.
‘Alexander, do you want to ask the first questions?’ Angeline asks and he starts with easy questions about my life in Holland and how I came here.
I answer with the truth and then Angeline jumps in with questions about Igétas. How I met him, how I think about him. The rogue attack is also a subject and Igétas holds my hand while I tell my side of the story with a little too much emotion.
‘Let’s take a break,’ Amanda proposes and Tharros gives her a hard glare. Her eyes shoot down rapidly.
‘Yes, that sounds nice.’ Angeline says and leaves the room with Alexander and Amanda follows.
‘Can I have a word with my mate?’ Igétas asks his brother. He huffs and leaves the room.
‘Why are the elders here? Why am I a problem?’ I ask but I see that he wants to go first.
Oh God, he must be still mad at me. Quietly I wait until he speaks.
