Mates Conquer Everything, Right?

Chapter 18 School life

Walking through the hallway with Logan and Ethan beside me was uncomfortable. But not as much as being twenty-four years old and taking classes with eighteen-year-olds.

I came here to learn the language, so all my classes are very basic topics I’ve mostly already covered in my courses back in Holland.

Taylor and Tiffany are both years old and a great help during classes. The hallways were filled with young people.

“Violet, here!” I hear Tiffany call and I go to her, seeing that Taylor is also present. They aren’t related but looks like they could be sisters. Both blonde and having the same wide smile. Only Tiffany is a head taller than Taylor.

“Hey, girls! Missed me?” I ask while accepting their hugs.

“Of course, how are you now?” Taylor asks, eying my bodyguards. Most of the pack members always keep to themselves, like Logan and Ethan. I never saw them interact with other students in the canteen. And now I have the two bulky students surrounding me.

“I am better,” I say and tell them the stories with, of course, a twist.

The bell rings and we go to class. Ethan and Logan are going to their classes.

“Why are they following you? I never saw them near you before.” Tiffany says and Taylor bumps into her.

“Don’t be jealous, I know you have a crush on Ethan.” Taylor says, while raising her eyebrows, and I laugh at them. Entering the classroom, everything goes back to normal and I love it. No werewolves, no more thinking about the past, just studying.

Recess came quickly, and Logan and Ethan were with us during lunch. The second we stand up and walk to our next class, Ethan walks behind me and is giving looks to people who stare at us. This is crazy. I need to tell them to stop, now.

“Go to class, I will be right behind you.” The girls nod their heads and leave me with Ethan and Logan.

“Are you guys crazy?” I ask them, and they look confused.

“I don’t want any attention and you two protecting me from nothing and giving people weird looks isn’t helping me.”

Logan and Ethan share a look and stay quiet.

I point at them. “What was that? The look that you just shared?”

“What look?” Logan asks with his voice a little too high. A giving tell he is hiding something.

“Tell me now.” They don’t surrender.

“Are you forgetting what I did for your community?” I ask, and I know it is a low blow.

Logan’s hardened face becomes softer and Ethan is growling softly.

“Don’t you growl at me,” I point my finger once again. “What is the secret?”

Sharing a look, Ethan speaks up. “There have been some changes since you came to the pack grounds.”

“Of course,” I say, “you were attacked and the whole place is closed to be restored.”

Ethan shakes his head and Logan takes my hand and moves us to an empty classroom.

“That’s not what we mean.”

Shutting the door and taking a seat on the desk he continues. “You are Igétas’ mate.” Logan whispers like it is a big secret.

“I know that, but what I want to know is why you two are all over me and acting like I am in danger.”

Both men are avoiding eye contact. “Oh my God, why am I in danger?” I ask again.

“Logan, don’t tell her. Igétas will be so angry.”

“She is asking us now, and in the future...” he doesn’t continue.

“I won’t tell Igétas,” I say, and see that’s not good enough. “If he finds out, I will take responsibility and will stop him from punishing you.” That does the trick.

“Okay, well I won’t go into detail, but the Alpha doesn’t like your mating.” I am more confused than a second ago.

“He doesn’t like it that his brother found love, me?” I ask and Ethan shakes his head.

“It is about power. Igétas could be more powerful with you by his side.”

“I don’t get it.” I take a seat and wait for more answers.

“You are not just a mate, you two are...”

“Wait, Igétas is going to explain that tonight. Don’t tell me. I want him to clarify the topic.”

“Alright, just know that the Alpha is threatened by you.” Logan says.

“Me? But I am a human! I can’t do damage to him! Can I?”

“No,” Ethan says,“ but Igétas can.”

“I don’t get it. Isn’t a pack one big family? Aren’t they on the same side? They are brothers.” I ask.

“Just know that Igétas doesn’t trust his brother and we don’t know what he will do. That’s all we can say.”

“So, am I really in danger?” I begin to feel a little lightheaded.

“No, I don’t think so.” Logans says. “We are just extra manpower in case something happens.”

With those words, they both escort me to my next lesson and leave. I couldn’t concentrate on the teacher, and I left as soon as possible. The day flew by and I went home.

I didn’t talk much to T and T after the talk with Ethan and Logan. Everything is just so complicated. Why does the Alpha want to see me gone, and why are the two bulky teenagers afraid of my well-being? Why do they care? So many questions and so little answers.

At home, I go straight to my room and do some of my homework and make myself pretty for the date. Yes, I am a little upset, but he can explain everything during the date. I am looking forward to seeing him again. It feels like a year since I last saw him, but it has only been a day. Well, less than a day.

I want to make myself pretty for him and take a few dresses out of the closet. Deciding to go for a cute look, I take a baby blue dress and put it on. Next, a light make-up with only mascara and nude lipstick. Happy with the look, I take a seat behind my desk and finish some more homework.

“Violet,” Rose calls, “Igétas is here for you!”

With a smile, I walk down the stairs and see my man standing in the little kitchen.

My man, I like it.
