Mated to the Dragon Twins

Chapter Chapter Seven

Aria's POV

As I ran from the clearing and into the woods I could hear my heart pounding in my chest, my feet hitting the ground but all I could think was I had to get away I had to run!

As I came into the field behind the school, I ran towards the road and pushed my legs harder and harder until I was out of breath and left panting as I put my hands on my knees, and tried to suck in as much breath as I could into my lungs to soothe the burning feeling in them.

I looked up and realised I had run to the park between my house and Ariel's, I spotted an empty bench under a huge willow tree and made my way to it.

I sat there staring out into the empty playground, my thoughts going back to my conversation with Dragus.

Why did I tell him about Colton? Why did I show him those marks? The truth is I didn't know why but I felt like I could trust him. I didn't know much about the twins. I knew their father was the Alpha over Azira and they were next in line to take over that role, but we had never really spoken so I didn't know much about them as people.

As I continued sitting there staring out, I started to think what life would be like if Colton wasn't my brother, Lucien wasn't my father. What if I could leave them all behind and start my own life and be free to be happy.

I was so lost in my thoughts I hadn't realised Ariel had sat next to me, she sat there in silence looking out to the playground, she rested her hand on mine and squeezed it slightly before turning to me.

As I looked at her I saw the handprint on the side of her face, my eyes teared up knowing who had done it to her.

"I'm so sorry Ariel" I sobbed as I pulled her into a bone-crushing hug. I sobbed into her hair as we just embraced each other. She rubbed soothing circles on my back, whispering to me that it wasn't my fault and that she didn't blame me for what Colton did.

After what seemed like forever we finally pulled apart. I wiped my eyes with my hand and looked back at Ariel.

"I can't stay here Ariel, I can't take it anymore," I said, holding back the tears that threatened to fall from my eyes.

Ariel looked at me and I could see the sadness swarming in her eyes before she nodded her head.

"I understand I will miss you so much, but wherever you go just remember I am always with you, no matter what I love you Aria" she sobbed but she knew I had to do this.

I pulled her into another hug before we both slowly got up from the bench and headed back to the park entrance.

Once we were there, Ariel turned to me,

"I won't tell anyone you're leaving just make sure to call me when you get somewhere safe ok” I nodded my head as my throat dried up and my words refused to come out.

We hugged one more time before I turned and headed to my house. I knew my dad wouldn't be home yet so I rushed down the pavement until I got to our house. I flung the front door open and rushed upstairs to my room and started shoving things into my bag as fast as I could. Once I was done, I did up my bag and took one last look at my room before I turned and closed the door. I rushed down the stairs and to the front door. I couldn't believe I was doing this but I needed to leave. I needed to be happy. I took one final look at our house before I headed down the pavement towards town and my new life.

Once I made it into town I headed towards the station, I looked at the board trying to decide where to go. I decided to head south as it would be warmer, I would have to find myself a job once I got there. I only had a few hundred pounds to my name, but I would make it work. This was the beginning of a much happier life for me and I would make sure I did everything I could to make it work.

I purchased my ticket and headed towards the train. Once I was onboard I found a seat and put my bag between my legs on the floor. I took my headphones out of my bag and put them in.

Not long after the train started to pull out of the station and I couldn't help but let out a sigh of relief, but I also worried about Ariel, and what Colton would do once he found out I left.

I couldn't think like that Ariel was tuff and I'm sure she could deal with Colton and Cindy but I would miss her. I made sure to remind myself to call her once I was settled.

After a few hours on the train we finally reached my stop. I took my headphones out and gathered my bag from the floor. I made my way to the exit of the train. Once I stepped out from the train the lights of the station shone so brightly. I looked up and smiled at the sign that said Welcome to Arcadia.......
