Master of his heart (Max and Brielle)

Chapter 1447

A couple had broken up, and if one of them had already moved on, then the one still clinging to the past was definitely on the losing side. Losing?

Kailee would never admit defeat, not in a million years. She only remembered Lewis's name, that's it. She'd long since moved on, had her eyes set on someone else. There was no way she was still hung up on him! "Stop trying to make yourself look good!" she snapped, her finger itching to poke him in the face.

As they pulled up to the spot Lewis had mentioned, Kailee didn't hold back. "Out you go, don't dirty up my car. I'm off to pick up a young model today, and having you around is just bad luck."

She rolled her eyes, but then a ray of sunshine hit Lewis's face, and she had to admit, despite herself, that he was still annoyingly handsome. What a waste of a good face.

Lewis got out, and Kailee had been ready to give him an earful if he dared thank her. But instead, he just walked away without a second glance.

Sitting in her car, Kailee felt her face heat up with anger. That's it?

Seriously?!

How could anyone be so rude? Was it living in the slums that stripped him of his manners?

Then again, a guy who still gossips about his ex-girlfriend years after the breakup probably didn't have much class to begin with.

She glanced at her driver, feeling a headache brewing from the sheer frustration. "Drive!"

The driver, startled, quickly stepped on the gas.

Meanwhile, Lewis entered his home, neatly hanging his clothes on the coat rack. This was the same room he had shared with Kailee when they were together.

But that woman, always so carefree, had probably forgotten all about it. Not that he expected her to remember.

She had a knack for breaking up and moving on without a backward glance, always ready for the next chapter.

He'd only suggested breaking up once, and she ran with it. She'd mentioned it countless times, and he never agreed. But the one time he did, it turned out to be the last. She was unforgiving to others but so forgiving of herself.

Lewis loosened a few buttons at his neck just as he got a call from the research institute.

"Lewis, when are you joining us? Did you sort things out with the hospital?"

Initially, he planned to pay the hospital a settlement, but thanks to Kailee's unexpected interference, not only was the problem solved, he even walked away with some cash.

He relayed the story, and the woman on the line gasped.

"Wow, an angel in disguise! Could it be an ex-girlfriend? Wait, have you ever had an ex?"

A shadow flickered in Lewis's eyes. "Just a stranger, nothing more."

The woman on the phone, Clara, already part of the research institute and from a well-off family, had been subtly pursuing him. Knowing he was headed to her institute had made her day.

Her earlier question was her way of fishing to see if he had any past relationships.

Hearing his response, a sly smile spread across Clara's lips.

"Got it. Well, I'll be waiting for you then. Congrats on the payout."

Meanwhile, Kailee got home, still feeling the sting of it all.

Remembering how Lewis, with those white gloves, had touched her, her cheeks went crimson. She had never been that close to a guy before.

Back when they were young and

living together, Lewis was the early riser, just stepping into adulthood. Kailee, half a year younger, knew that even though relationships were more open in the West, neither of

them had thought about "that" back then.

Thinking of Lewis's confident air, Kailee was determined not to lose.

She tried picturing King in her mind, but knowing he was now happily married to Brielle made her lose interest.

If they weren't married, she might have considered setting her sights on him.
