Master of his heart (Max and Brielle)

Chapter 1445

Lewis spotted her and raised an eyebrow, adjusting his glasses with a casual flick. "Feeling a bit off, are we?"

Kailee shot back with a sardonic laugh.

"Seeing you makes me queasy! Get me a different doctor, for crying out loud!"

There was no way she'd let Lewis know she'd been so full of herself that she fell off her horse and got hurt. Now, something was throbbing painfully, and she was on the brink of tears.

But like it or not, Lewis was the only doctor around.

He shut the exam room door and pulled the curtains closed, making Kailee swallow hard, a wave of unease washing over her.

"Listen, Lewis, I'm not afraid of you. Believe it or not, I could have my brother take care of you and feed you to the sharks! And you're about to lose your job too. The Sanchez family pulls a lot of weight, so just wait for that pink slip from the hospital. Don't come crying to me when it happens."

Her smug facade slipped a little as she realized they were alone.

"You'd better not mess around. Push me, and I'll make sure your family regrets it."

Lewis, now gloved up, shrugged, "Just let it be me who regrets it. No need to drag my family into this."

With his hands covered in white gloves, his expression remained cool and collected.

"So, where's the pain? You did say you were injured, right?"

Kailee squirmed, suddenly hesitant. "I want another doctor." Lewis frowned.

"All the other docs are tied up right now."

"Then I'm not getting treated!"

She tried to hop off the bed, but the movement tugged at her injury. She instinctively went to clutch the spot but caught herself, wanting to maintain her poise.

Lewis reached out, gently guiding her back to the bed with a firm hand on her shoulder.

Kailee's defenses went up immediately. "What are you doing?"

Lewis started to unbutton her pants. "Heard you took a spill while horseback riding? Had a few of those cases before. Pants need to come off first." Kailee clung to her pants desperately.

"I'll charge you with harassment! Hands off!"

Lewis stopped, straightening up.

"Don't tell me you're feeling shy because your ex is here, Kailee."

His teasing tone made her neck flush with anger.

"Don't flatter yourself! You're just a walking slab of bacon to me!"

So what if she had to ditch her pants?

She climbed back onto the bed, yanked her pants off, her face burning, eyes squeezed shut.

"Go ahead, take a look."

Lewis didn't say a word, his gloved fingers pressing gently on the sore spot.

"Does it hurt here?"

Kailee fumed.

"Just do your job and quit yakking! Why else would I be here if I wasn't in pain, you quack!"

Lewis raised an eyebrow, pressed a bit more firmly, and Kailee let out a yelp.

Tears sprang to her eyes. He must have done that on purpose.

Seeing her tears, Lewis hesitated, then pulled back.

"Nothing major, just rest up at home, and you'll be fine."

Kailee lay there, hastily wiping away her tears before scrambling to pull her pants back on, cursing him under her breath. "You jerk, you're gonna regret this."

She spat out the words, dialing Joseph's number right in front of Lewis.

"Hey, bro, how's it going with that guy I asked you to handle?"

Joseph picked up on the tremor in her voice and frowned. Had she really been pushed around?

"Your ex, right? What's his name again?"

"Lewis!"

Joseph quickly set about digging up Lewis's details, putting pressure on the hospital.

In under ten minutes, someone knocked on the door.

"Dr. Lewis, sorry to interrupt, but Mark's decided to let you go."

Kailee, standing off to the side, shot Lewis a smug grin when she heard the news.

The messenger looked disgruntled, baffled by Mark's sudden decision. So many had tried to poach Dr Lewis, yet he stayed here and even attracted wealthy clients. Now, they were just tossing him aside.

Kailee's chin was practically sky-high with pride.

"Lewis, you had this coming. Now you see how powerful I am? Soon, you won't find a job in any hospital in North America. You'll be just another unemployed drifter."

Lewis calmly peeled off his gloves, his tone even.

"I'm actually due to start at the research institute next week and was wondering how to resign. Plus with the hospital letting me go,

they're breaching our contract ne

so

they owe me a cool million in compensation. Appreciate it, Kailee."
