Chapter 1436
The woman stood there, her oversized sunglasses perched on her nose, arms crossed, with a smirk playing on her lips. "Wow, Dr. Lewis, is this really how you see me after all these years?" Lewis raised an eyebrow, leisurely picking up a napkin to dab at the coffee stains on his face. "Years have passed, but some things never change, Kailee."
Kailee took off her sunglasses, revealing her delicate features. "Good thing I showed up today, or I'd have missed hearing you badmouthing me. Funny, because in my eyes, you're still the same old drama king. Oh, and just so you know, I moved on ages ago. The guy I'm into now? He's miles better than you. But of course, you'd only talk trash behind my back."
And to think I once thought I couldn't live without him, what a joke!
What's he even going on about?!
Lewis calmly set down the napkin and adjusted his glasses with a small push. "If you're so into him, is he even interested in marrying you?"
Kailee stumbled over her words, suddenly feeling a bit sheepish. Of course not. King had just married Brielle recently. It infuriated her. Why didn't King choose her instead? Now she was left arguing with her so-called ex without a leg to stand on! Seeing her flustered expression, Lewis knew the man didn't want her, and he chuckled lightly. "Ah, unrequited love, huh?"
Kailee was trembling with anger, this jerk. After dumping her, she ran off to the Middle East, only to fall for King, who didn't even notice her. It wasn't like she was severely depressed back then. She was just under a lot of stress from the Sanchez family, and with her brother too busy, her mood was occasionally off. Sure, she might have lost her temper at him, okay maybe dozens of times, but how dare he talk behind her back like this?
"Ironically, my luck has only gotten better since we split. Looks like the problem wasn't me, Dr. Lewis, it was you. You're like a bad omen."
Lewis's brow furrowed as he glanced at her wrist, gaudily adorned with multiple diamond bracelets a total nouveau riche vibe and he scoffed. "Indeed, seems like life's treating you well. What, did your boyfriend gift you these for his 60th birthday?" Kailee, not the quickest with comebacks, turned red and fumed in silence. She shot a look at Mason, smirking. "Stay away from this heartless guy. Who knows when you'll be next on his hit list!"
With that, she grabbed her purse and stormed off without hesitation.
Lewis, coffee-stained but unfazed, turned to Mason. "See, if I hadn't broken up with her, can you imagine being stuck with that? Even if her depression's better, that princess attitude hasn't shifted an inch."
Mason's lips twitched, taken aback by Lewis's bluntness. "Lewis, thanks for the advice today."
Mason stood up, insisting on picking up the tab. "But I'm not planning on breaking up. Being with her doesn't feel like torture; it actually brings me peace. Maybe you're right, I might need to see a therapist too.
Lewis remained silent for a moment before chuckling softly. "Sorry, I shouldn't have projected my own experience onto you. I was too young back then, maybe not strong enough to handle it."
Mason thought back to the woman's
temper and didn't say much. It was hard to imagine someone as spoiled as Lewis's ex-girlfriend. With his personality, was he really willing to indulge someone like that? But it
in
was none of his business.
After leaving the café, he returned to his small house. He had only managed to get a ticket for the next day. Tonight, he would be alone again.
Tiffanie sent him a photo of flowers she'd picked from the garden. Looking at the picture made Mason's heart feel warm.
Dinner time was approaching. What
should he eat?
arranged fo Before he left, he had
someone to cook for
Tiffanie at home, reminding her every dinner time. Not wanting him to worry, Tiffanie diligently sent photos of her meals-breakfast, lunch, dinner, snacks.
Seeing her eating more and more each day brought warmth to Mason's eyes. Tiffanie sent another message. "Hehe, Mason, I think I've gained a few pounds. What should I do? Do I have a double chin now?" She had been punishing herself, deliberately starving. How could she have a double chin? "You don't have a double chin. You look great. I'll see for myself when I get back."
Tiffanie immediately sent a selfie. Mason smiled and replied with two words. "So cute."
