Chapter 747
Chapter 747 Do You Feel Guilty?
Charlie looked sad and confused as if it was unfair of Theresa to kick him out at that moment.
"You should go home," Theresa insisted.
"It's freezing outside, and I have to drive. It could be dangerous, I might get into an accident, but you don't care about that. You only care that I'm bothering you," Charlie said, looking at her with a hint of sadness.
Theresa was speechless. Rubbing her temples, she sighed, "If you don't want to leave, you can stay. But don't act like I am forcing you."
"Then where will I sleep?" he asked, perking up at her compromise.
"The guest room is empty. Ask Brenda to prepare it for you," she answered. "Well, no need. Just forget it. I'll go home." He took a deep breath, disappointed.
"Alright." She nodded, trying to be polite before heading back to her own room.
Watching her leave, he realized that she wasn't going to stop him. He immediately added, "I really am leaving."
"Just go," she spoke as she closed the door to her room. Then she made the bed and lay down. About an hour later, Charlie sent her a message saying he had made it home safely, which surprised her. She had thought that he was going to stay with her since he had been in her house many times.
Charlie sent another message. [You must be wondering why I left. Well, it's because I don't want you to hate me even more. But now I'm back. Do you feel disappointed or guilty?]
Theresa was silent for a moment as she read it. She thought to herself, 'He's really scheming, isn't he? It seems that he always has many plots.'
Theresa tossed and turned in bed, unable to fall asleep. She kept thinking about what Charlie had said. After a while, she got up and left her room to check on Leonard and Ben. Their bedroom was dark since the boys were already asleep. Theresa quietly turned on the light and walked over to Ben's bed when she noticed him moving slightly under his blanket.
"Ben?" Theresa whispered. 'He isn't sleeping?' When he didn't respond, she asked again, "You're still awake?"
After a few moments of silence, Ben peeked his head out from under the covers, his eyes red from crying.
Theresa's heart sank at the sight of that.
Ben was usually a happy and outgoing child. But Charlie's recent behavior seemed to have had a huge impact on him. In his eyes, his dad had always been a hero, but now, all was changed.
