Married to the Boss: A Love in Disguise by Ava Green

Chapter 381

This statement was definitely not just something Adam said to please Lumma.
In his mindset, either don’t get married, or if you do, you must treat your wife well and be forever loyal to her.
These words, Lumma saw them with warmth in her eyes and heart. Her fingertips quickly typed a few words in response to
Lucas: (I will only love my husband too!]
She didn’t dwell on why Lucas knew how to make girls happy or whether he was constantly charming other girls. She believed
that if Lucas expressed something to her, she should respond in kind. That’s how couples should interact.
As Lumma typed out those few words, which seemed like a confession, she couldn’t shake off the feeling of being watched, and
the gaze made her feel a sense of pressure. And when she looked up, she found herself unexpectedly locking eyes with Adam.
He stared at her intently, his eyes beneath the silver–rimmed glasses were deep and seemed like an abyss without end. It felt as
if she could be drawn into them if she looked for too long.
Lumma tried to avert her gaze, but for some reason, she couldn’t. The two of them locked eyes in the air, entangled together...
She saw Adam open his mouth, as if he wanted to say something. In the end, his voice came out hoarse, uttering a name,
“Lumma...”
She had heard him call her by those two words many times before, and even now, they sounded pleasing to her ears, as if
carrying a hint of something different.
Lumma guessed that he must have been calling his wife’s name, but then she heard him say in a low, deep voice, “Lumma,
thank you.”
Thanking her for believing in him!
Thanking her for responding to him!
Lumma was bewildered. “Mr. Hills, why are you suddenly thanking me?”
Adam remained silent, but his gaze grew increasingly aggressive, as if she were the prey he had singled out, destined to be
trapped in his grasp.

Lumma felt a sense of unease under the weight of his intense gaze. Hastily, she shifted her gaze away and returned her
attention to the chat box on her phone, where she was conversing with Lucas.
There lay a new message from Lucas on the phone screen: [Lumma, let’s spend Christmas together next year.]
Lumma: [OK.)
Lumma not only responded to Lucas’s message through text, but she also spoke out loud.
Her voice was soft and tender, like a beautiful note that reached Adam’s ears, striking his heart and causing his chest to
uncontrollably beat faster.
At that moment, he recalled the scene from two years ago when Catherine pretended to be sick and forced him into marriage.
Catherine lay on the hospital bed, weakly clutching her chest and uttering, “Adam, I’m old, and my time is limited. Before I depart
from this world, my greatest desire is to witness your marriage and the birth of your children. Cough, cough...”
He knew Catherine was pretending to be sick, but he couldn’t bring himself to expose her. “Grandma, do you have a suitable
candidate?”
Catherine nodded repeatedly. “Yes, yes, yes. Her name is Lumma. She’s the granddaughter of an old friend of mine. Lumma is
intelligent and beautiful...”
Catherine pulled out a crumpled photo from beneath the covers, possibly because she had kept it in her pocket all this time. She
hastily flattened it out. “Adam, have a look. Isn’t Lumma beautiful?
