Chapter Twenty-Nine; Part Two: Sawyer

The heart formed back into one piece, her body was taken with it as he felt himself scream her name. His heart broke into a million pieces as he ran towards it and grabbed the heart. Sawyer clutched onto it with his life as he angrily fought and killed every creature that was in his way.

Tears had begun to stream down his face as he shifted, allowing his rage to take over any other emotion as his dragon swallowed the heart, the crystal sliding down his throat with ease as his power grew stronger, his flames turning into ice as he rawred and entered the other side through the hidden doorway.

His home was in devastation as his people paused from their slave work, their eyes widening with hope whilst he flew over them and attacked the creatures that got in his way, His wings swiping at stragglers while he picked a few up with his feet and tore them in half.

Cheers rang through his ears as he tried to find the woman who was the cause of all of this. The small town he used to call home felt larger as he came closer to the castle to confront the witch.

Her crown sat smugly on top of her golden head as he saw her in the distance. Sawyer didn’t understand why she did this, why she would destroy her own kind, her own people just for more power. She the princess, next in line to be queen but instead she decided to dig into dark magic and turn it into their worst nightmare.

Her black gown looked hideous on her as she grinned and shifted into her dragon. This witch was nothing like his Marley, she was beautiful, she was radiant and she was good, unlike this thing that dared try and touch him.

Their wings flapped as he found her claws trying to swipe at his neck but missed. He could tell that she was out of practice in her dragon form and he took that to his advantage as he charged her, his head ramming into her gut as they fell from the sky. They hadn’t flown very high but just enough for the both of them to hit the ocean with a loud bang.

The water vibrated the island causing a sudden shift as he felt water clog his lungs. The witch’s fire came straight at him as he sucked in a breath and counteracted. He could feel Marley helping him as he flew out of the water and felt lighter, he felt her grasp onto him as he attacked the witch again with every bit of strength he had in him.

It was as if her soul had wrapped itself around his as he allowed her to take over. His chest felt like it was going to burst open as blood surround him, the witch’s neck had snapped during the fall as their body crashed back onto the island.

Cheers echoed around him whilst he made sure that she was dead. The air felt like the curse was lifted the moment she had died, his people feeling their other half coming back to them but all he felt was pain. His body gave up on him as he felt the heart come back up while he shifted back into his human form.

Loud sobs escaped him as he held into it against his chest and mourned the love of his life. His people watching him as he felt his mother wrap a blanket around his body but he didn’t care.

He didn’t care that he just saved everyone, he didn’t care that he killed their threat. All he cared about was the one person who he would die for but she had beat him to it. She was gone and he was still here just to suffer.

Just to feel the pain of losing the one thing he will never have again.
