Chapter Chapter THREE
"So yeah, I've been worried about you... I appreciated that you stood up for me and all" I zoned out while Veronica was going on and on about how grateful she was, and how awful Adam's death was and yadi-yadi-yada.
If not for the fact that I was starving for a little bit of human interaction, I'm sure I would've left already. Jude (because apparently, that's his name), somehow got himself accepted into the school without any form of application or time- consuming paperwork, and since he had been attacked by a few attention-hungry girls on the hallway, I left him to suffer alone. The demon was in desperate need to learn some manners.
"I'm fine, I really am..." I said after a while "It's just... there is a lot on my mind since Adam died... You know if you fight with someone just before they pass it feels like you are partially guilty?"
Liar.
That's what I was. A big fat liar.
"Oh, I get it... Though it's not something you should blame yourself for... He had a heart attack, no one expected it." She gently placed her hand on my shoulders in an attempt to cheer me up. I slowly glanced at her hand. It doesn't feel warm. I don't feel anything weird, anything that I had felt this morning. Probably because of the context. It's not sexual, and let's face it, Jude is sexual even when he is staring into the abyss, and not saying anything to anyone. He is a demon after all... His actions can't be compared to a sane human being's.
"I could use a little company. Any plans for dinner? Maybe tonight?" I asked, looking up into her eyes. I flashed her a calm half-smile, yet my mind was screaming at me: You are using her. That's wrong. Stop it. You can't use people like test subjects...
"Oh... you know what? Why not." she seemed almost surprised by her own answer, but I didn't really care much for her reaction I smiled once more and looked at my watch.
"Do you need my address? I live near your dorm. " I glanced up into her deep brown eyes and she nodded with a bright expression. She looked all excited now, as a child. Maybe this is it. The thing that is supposed to happen... The thing that brings my life back to a more normal angle.
I was never really someone who experienced feeling extremely, or even strongly, so maybe I've been looking for the wrong thing all along. Maybe I thought attraction must be this all-consuming strong urge... maybe it's not for me. I have to give it a shot.
"Deep apologies, but I'll have to kidnap our mutual friend over here. Say bye-bye to your lady-friend" Jude took one of my arms in his hand and used it like a doll's, forcing me to wave at Veronica, before he pulled me further from the girl. "I thought you like attention? Why so grumpy, Jude?" I asked with a pleased smile, seeing the demon irritated for the first time.
"I have standards." he said politely, but he sounded a little exhausted, or well, a little fed up. I can imagine, horny college girls can go a little overboard sometimes.
As we exited the campus, I headed straight to my flat, him next to me. It was somehow uncomfortable, being accompanied by basically a stranger, let alone him, to everywhere I went.
"I'll have a date tonight. I want you to leave the apartment... go back to hell, or ruin marriages... whatever you do in your free time" I announced as I stepped into my apartment. "You seem very excited" he commented sarcastically, but I ignored his remarks.
"I don't need your nagging, Jude, make yourself useful for once and miracle something fancy for dinner. I want to impress her" biting my bottom lip, deep in thought, I was wondering what dish would do while undressing myself on the top. I need the shower I missed in the morning.
"I feel obligated to warn you that our bond works in a very special manner. If you order me around like a dog, you'll get on my bad side... And you don't want to be there." he threatened me though his voice stayed calm and collected. He always talked to me as if I was a child, but probably he is like immortal or something, so that could be the reason he views me as a youngster.
"How old are you?" the question popped into my mind, sticking my head out of the bathroom, to see the man who now leaned against the kitchen counter. His jawline was just as sharp as his eyes were, all his features very distinct, yet he usually kept his face in a relaxed manner. He would be quite the looker, if not for that "rotten-to-the-core" smile.
"I've existed for a very long time, though I couldn't put a number on it as in mortal years."
"Don't wanna admit your old?" I grinned in a childish manner "It's fine, the way you talk betrays you, grandpa..." he raised one his eyebrows at me, but I ignored his confusion and disappeared in the bathroom.
"So, you'll leave?" I yelled while turning the tap on and standing under the pleasantly hot water.
"I'll make myself invisible for her, sure." came the reply, so I nodded to myself, and had my shower peacefully. I Washed my hair, and stuff, not that I can remember the last time I aimed to look more attractive. I never really had a problem with that. I wasn't overly popular like ever, but I always had my fair share of girls having a crush on me. It's my interest that was lacking... but maybe I just need to get closer to someone to feel that way.
When I got ready, I left the bathroom with a towel on my waist and went to the kitchen to have a coffee. Jude was still around, now in the living room, on the couch per usual.
"If I would tell you very gently, that it's not going to work out with Veronica, would you believe me?" I could only hear his voice, since I was facing the other way, trying to persuade the coffee machine to do as I wish.
"If you would state very gently that the sky is blue, I still wouldn't believe you... You are a demon, remember? You thrive on deceiving the innocent." I stated as if I knew much about demons.
"Lucky you then, I have no chance to deceive you, isn't that right?" he chuckled, in a way that a pleasant shiver ran down my spine. It was the perfect combination of a threat and a promise, his tone usually held. What the hell... If I keep overthinking everything he does, I'll actually go crazy.
"Are you suggesting I'm not innocent?" I glanced at him above my shoulders half curiously, half mockingly.
"Seth" my name rolled off his tongue naturally as if he had said it a thousand times by now. I froze, a little as he looked up into my eyes.
"You won't find satisfaction in mortals... Veronica is a meal that will only strengthen your hunger" his tone carried some seriousness now, but it only angered me. I turned away from him again, grabbing my coffee.
"She's not a meal... She's a... pretty girl. And maybe we could be more than friends" I explained swallowing a little. I wasn't sure what I was supposed to say about her, to convince Jude of my intentions.
"You sound like you wrote a script... "oh what am I supposed to say...? Oh yeah, uhm, she's so hot bro"" he tried to imitate me, and I just rolled my eyes. Jerk.
"I don't know why you are so fixated on the idea that I'm gay, but just because you have strange BDSM fantasies about me, doesn't mean I don't like girls!" I shot back glancing away from his face because I was a tiny bit worried I angered him.

"Whatever helps you sleep at night" he sighed "Just remember, I tried to help you, the rest is up to you though."
"It's up to me, and I made my decision. I'll give her a shot" I concluded. A little bit of silence came, but I didn't really pay attention to him, just enjoyed my remaining drops of coffee.
"I'll help you then. But you'll have to ask me" he sat up suddenly, throwing his hands up onto the back of the sofa, and he set his fierce, alluring gaze on me.
"What do you mean? I asked you like 20 minutes ago" I shrugged, as I seated myself in front of him, in one of the armchairs. He slowly grinned, and I could already feel something very unpleasant is coming my way.
"You are asking a favour of me... remember, this is not something I have to do, in order to fulfil our deal... So, you'll have to get me in the mood to help" somehow the "get me in the mood" part sounded extremely sketchy coming from his mouth, and I felt like there is something about this I don't really want to know. I repositioned myself while sitting, a little uncomfortable under his gaze.
"What do you want?" I barked.
"I want you to kneel before me and ask me nicely. Maybe that would do" at first, I giggled a little, but as his face didn't betray any humour, I froze and raised an eyebrow at him.
"Ha-ha... fuck off Jude. I don't know what kind of sick games you guys play in hell, but I won't play boy-toy for you, because you are grumpy about Veronica" I shook my head, almost amused by the thought that he really had the audacity to ask me that. Obviously, he takes me for some embarrassed little boy, that he can just persuade into satisfying his control-freak nature.
"Forget it. I'll cook something myself. I don't need you" I stood from my place.
"As you wish then."
It was too easy - I thought for a second, but I figured he realized he miscalculated me in his little plan and gave up. I don't blame him; I don't even know why he thought I'll be any good for a slave of some sort. I guess in hell I won't have much of a choice, but here, it's not like he could force me...
