Madam, Your Ex-Husband Is On Call

Chapter 119

Chapter 119 Pay Back

Anastasia's tone was icy cold, and each word struck deeply into his heart like an icy hatchet.

Christian had been freed, but not Anastasia.

Perhaps she was doomed to immerse herself in this indescribable sorrow forever.

The child that Christian had casually given up, the life that Anastasia had once held him and Beatrice responsible for.

He could easily say it was all in the past, but she couldn't.

As for Anastasia, that was a real angel that had once appeared in her life!

Now that he had paid his debt by saving her life.

They were square.

After Anastasia had finished speaking, Christian stood in shock, his body rigid.

His complexion gradually turned pale and ghastly.

The silence hung heavily in the hospital room for a good while.

It was only then broken by the rough, muffled voice of Christian.

"So this is what you've been feeling," he said, dejected.

She despised him still, even if he had saved her life.

He then realized their lost child was a barrier they could never overcome.

Christian felt weak for the first time, acknowledging that he couldn't mend all he had let slip by, even with all his might.

A sudden sense of helplessness flashed across his mind. His fists clenched tighter and tighter, yet he could never hold on to what he truly wanted.

Anastasia, drawing a clear line between love and resentment, didn't persist stubbornly. She was merely expressing her emotions in a composed and rational manner.

She refused his offer to start anew and declined to forget the past.

Anastasia was staring out the window when she felt a warm tear trickle down her cheek. Before she could dry her tears, Christian already approached, pulling her into a heartfelt embrace.

His chin rested on her head. She had once longed for this embrace, and it was like stepping back in time.

But he had never held her with such genuine intensity in the past. He always seemed dismissive.

An intense wave of sorrow overcame Anastasia, making it feel like her heart was being torn apart, so painful that even breathing became a struggle.

She desperately fought to break free, but Christian held her wrist tightly.

Christian wiped away her tears, his voice heavy and husky.

"I understand that you can't forgive me just yet, and I know you're not ready to let me go, too," he confessed. "I want you to take care of yourself. Remember, I will always be waiting for you to come back." With his gaze lowered, his eyes bore a profound depth.

"If you need anything, come to me, not him," he uttered, a coldness creeping into his voice as he spoke his last words.

Anastasia squinted her eyes as the gloom in her heart suddenly dissipated, replaced by a hint of faint anger and ridicule. Just as she was about to say something, the ring of Christian's phone interrupted. He didn't shy away, picked it up, and saw the name "Beatrice" displayed.

The emotions within her crashed down in an instant. Taking advantage of the situation, she pulled away, creating a distance between them and reverting to her usual cold indifference. She thought, "How dare he suggest we make up when he still has his beloved around?"

Christian's brow nervously furrowed as he glanced at Anastasia. After hesitating, he heard her speak mockingly, "You know, that act you just put on had me nearly convinced you were sincere. Maybe you should go and propose to your beloved. I'm sure she would be moved to tears and happily agree."

She mused, "After all these three years, did he honestly think a few sweet words would make me go around in circles for him again?"

Anastasia was no longer blinded by love. She considered fighting over a man with other women to be degrading.

Only when she no longer loved him could she face his attempts at reconciliation with a calm heart.

Christian looked at her with a complicated expression, his voice deep as he said, "She isn't the woman I love. I was serious about what I said earlier."

As if to validate his words, he answered Beatrice's call right before Anastasia.
