Lycan's Affection

Chapter Silence

13 centuries after the existence of werewolves became harder to ignore, a different version of shifters started to make their way into the world. At first, the powerless minority, the disease slowly started to grow rampant, building a different form of wolf shifters through a process known as lycanthropy, it's descendants the lycans.

Before the process could be tamed by the werewolves that had started to grow insecure about the evolution of another shifter with the same spirit animal as them, the lycans have evolved to become larger, faster and stronger, breeding wolves far more beautiful than the werewolves. The key difference, however, was that the lycans were able to control their shifting, and the full moon had no effect on them.

A century passed and a cold war separated the werewolves from the now dominant lycans. It was a war that was imminent, but the werewolves were too scared to start. Slowly, they have become smaller than the lycans, especially after the mass conquest of werewolf packs by lycans.

It was a war that would only stop when one of two things happened. When the werewolves went extinct, or when....a lycan falls in love.

Alpha Alexander heaved a small sigh yet again, his fingers nipping at the soft skin of his palm, his other hand clenching and unclenching.

"Xander?"

Slowly he turned to the person that had spoken. It was Eleanor, the Delta of Polaris, and Alpha Alexander's soon to be wife and Luna. Seeing her gave him a little relief from the burden and impending doom, and he turned to her with a smile.

She was a beautiful redhead, with beautiful blue eyes that made her stand out everywhere. Even though Alpha Alexander had been quite the ladies man, he had fallen for her at that one thanksgiving, and had kept her by his side ever since.

She walked straight into his arms, and let out a small breath as his warmth engulfed her.

"How are you, Xander?"

He looked down at her, then brought his hand to slowly caress her hair. "I can't be any less than fine when you are here."

She lifted her eyes to him and gave a big smile. "I can tell when something is wrong with you, Xander. You can't lie to me."

He nodded slowly, as she moved away, but held on to his hand. He said nothing for a while, and went back to staring off at the sub set like he had ben doing.

"Is it the lycans?" Eleanor asked, her voice laced with concern.

He slowly nodded. "The lycans...we do not know when we will be next, Eleanor. Midnight star was conquered just a few months ago. I live in constant fear for when it will soon be us."

Eleanor gave a smal sigh. "So what are you thinking of doing?"

He sighed. "You know me too well, don't you?"

"Mhm. You don't talk about something when you have not thought of a solution for it. That is the Xander I know."

He turned to her, his eyes soft. "You also know how much you mean to me, don't you?"

She smirked. "Show me."

Her voice was low, and he held on to her waist, then pulled her closer, his lips slowly closing in on hers. She immediately closed her eyes, her hand moving to his shoulder.

He soon leaned away, then gave a small smile again. "Enough?"

"I can't get enough of you but...go on."

He laughed and turned away. "I was thinking of visiting the lycan king. He, after all, has absolute rule over all of the lycans as I have heard."

Eleanor's brows furrowed. "There is no way you are going to see the lycan king. He is a quiet monster!"

"Of course. I know. But should I not sacrifice myself for my pack before the pack is sacrificed before me?"

Eleanor immediately shook her head and held on to his hand. "No, no. Alexander, no. Don't do anything rash."

He took in a deep breath. "I have already sent a letter to him. It should be on it's way now."

Eleanor closed her eyes as she felt it fill up. "But Xander..."

"I will be fine, Eleanor, I swear. All I need is for you to wait for me. I need you to wait for me."

She shook her head as he cupped her face in his hands. "I am coming with you. I can't stay back here, I am your Delta after all. We will go with troops to ensure your safety..."

"I can't go with troops, especially to a peace talk. They will immediately feel threatened. I intend to go with Matthew. He is the beta, after all."

"No. I will join you. I do not believe the lycans would feel too threatened by the presence of one woman."

"Eleanor..."

She leaned and pecked his lips, stopping the words in his throat. "I am coming with you. That's it."

Alpha Alexander said nothing more, but held her in his arms, his hand slowly patting her hair down her back.

"Your highness,"

Conaan opened his eyes, and turned slowly to the lycan that had interrupted his meditation. He rarely talked except when he needed to, and his most fluent language was silence. No matter how dire things were, he mostly met it with silence.

"You have a request for a meeting."

"I do not feel up to talking with anyone."

The lycan cleared his throat. "The alpha of the werewolf pack, Polaris, has asked to meet you in order to establish peace between the lycans and werewolves."

Conaan's brows furrowed and he turned to the lycan, his long hair falling over his right eye, shielding the scar that ran from his right brow to his cheek.

"Is that so?"

"Yes, your highness. We have investigated on our own, and we found out he would not be coming with any troops. He will be coming with his younger brother, Matthew who is the current beta, and his delta, Eleanor, who is to be his Luna soon."

Conaan's fists slowly clenched. "Eleanor?"

"Yes, your highness."

He laughed, then shook his head a little. "Quite interesting. Send a reply welcoming them."

The lycan nodded, but hesitated. "Do you really want to establish peace?"

"Why not? Should we live our lives on the battle field?"

The lycan went silent, knowing Conaan wasn't that type of man. He was quiet, but he wasn't merciful. At least, not that merciful. He wasn't particularly a ruthless man, he just didn't back off first. Much less for a petty peace talk.

"Arrange my soldiers."

"What do you intend to do?" The lycan asked, but was met with steely silence.

He said nothing as he backed away, knowing for Conaan, his silence was far more wicked than any word ever coined.
