Chapter 64
Gaia’s Hope
Gaia felt helpless. She’d expended so much energy building and preparing a new home for the humans that she didn’t have much left to conjure a storm to interrupt the departure of the ships. She stood just beyond the entrance to the underground behind some large boulders petting Star’s mane. The beings had captured her Stormriders using technology that she could not manipulate. They’d captured every human they could find, sans Griffin whom they’d left below. Even Kai, in whom she’d had so much faith had fallen captive to their whims. The rain began to fall as she looked Star in the eyes.
“Time to go home,” she said. “We shall continue our work elsewhere. I hold out hope that Kai will persevere.” She climbed atop Star’s back and they disappeared into the sky.
