Chapter 20
The Card
Violet POV
With Dane guarding me 24×7, I really didn’t know how to sneak out. Should I run away again? But that would be so horrible for my son. I let out an exasperated sigh and went off to sleep. Sharp green eyes and images of a black wolf haunted my dreams.
“Mommy!” I woke up to Dave sitting on me. “Make sure you come to my school today.”
“Dave,” I smiled and got up to wrap my little one in my arms. He was taking part in a musical play in the school. “I will, darling,” I said, k*ssing his head.
“Please inform my teacher that I refuse to perform that foolish role on stage.”
I rolled my eyes. Dave was so much like Dane. While all other children were happy playing in that play, he found it stupid. He’d rather take part in sports and maybe play soccer with older kids. I couldn’t blame him. Those were his Alpha genes. I bopped his nose. “You are going to participate in that play, okay?” The pup needed some normalcy.
After sending him off to school, I rolled my hair in a messy bin, made. myself coffee, and picked up my phone to browse my emails and messages as I sat at the island table in the kitchen. Surprise washed over me when I saw it was switched off. Gritting my teeth, I plugged it in the charger, only to find that it was already sixty percent charged. I frowned. “This is weird,” I murmured as I switched it on. As soon as it was on, there was a barrage of dings as my phone flooded with

messages and emails. Wide–eyed, I gaped. Removing the charger, I went back to the island table, clearly remembering that I hadn’t switched it off. Then who could have done it? Dave? Hell, he would never. Dane? Umm…..
There were a hundred emails waiting for me, twenty messages and five missed calls. All of them were from Jayden. There were six messages from him.
Message 1: ‘I came over to your place and Dane opened the door. He said that you weren’t in.‘
Message 2: ‘Dane also said that you had asked him to babysit Dave. Is that true? You could’ve asked me.”
Message 3: ‘We had a date tonight. Why didn’t you tell me earlier you. wouldn’t be there?”
By the time I was on the sixth message, I was already fuming. So last. night Jayden had come, and Dane turned him away (calling him a rag picker). I stabbed my fingers in my hair as I read the last message from Jayden ‘Dane isn’t the right guy for you!‘
I don’t know why, but a smile crossed my l*ps and then I burst into laughter. Yes, Dane was too possessive, but the situation with Jayden suddenly seemed funny. Shaking my head, I went to take a bath. By the time I reached the office, Martha had called me and informed me that the deal was finalized. Additionally, she mentioned that Mr. Dane Lloyd invited us to a party at his home tonight.
I was calculating the amount that we were going to receive from the latest model that had signed with us because he really had a lot of new assignments for small advertisements in his bag when Jayden barged. in. “Jayden!” I blushed slightly, feeling sorry for him.
He glared at me as he placed his hands on his hips. “You could have

called me yesterday and canceled the date! But you switched off your phone and keep me in limbo! To add salt to my injuries, you called Dane to babysit your son?”
I poked my tongue in my cheek and averted my gaze. Taking a deep breath in. I said. “Jayden, there was no date yesterday. You wanted to come to my place.” I hesitated before telling him the truth but I decided I should. “I am sorry that Dane turned you away, but I was there in the house and I didn’t know what he did.”
“What the fuck!” His jaw dropped to the floor. “That bloody bastard! I am going to confront him!”
I shrugged. “You may.”
Jayden stomped out of the room and my shoulders sagged in relief. Dane’s words rang in my head. He wanted me to resign because he wanted me for his new company. Ridiculous assumption.
In the afternoon, I walked out of the office to buy a new dress for the evening’s party. I don’t know why, but I wanted to look good. Well, because I was soon going to be the company’s Director. Martha had informed me of a nice upscale boutique close to our office and that was where I walked in. There were barely three customers there. I scanned the entire area and went to the section that had various colors of beige, brown and yellow dresses. I chose a yellow one and trotted to the counter when, all at once, I saw Emily barging out of a trial room. Our gazes locked, and she glared at me. “You?” she scoffed. My eyes went to her lemon green dress that had sequins on its bodice and pearls. fashioned in waves on its skirt. In short, it was… tacky.
I lowered my gaze and walked towards the billing counter, but she marched past me to come first. Bewildered, I stepped aside to let her go first. She took out a black card from her purse and gave it to the cashier. She smirked at me. “Do you know this card belongs to Dane?

While he may indulge you as his other woman, he will always make me his Luna.” Pointing at the card, she said, “This is how he spoils me.” She waved at all the other dresses a shop assistant was carrying for her. Giving a disgusted look at my dress, she continued, “I bought five dresses and all of them are over five thousand dollars each.” The shop assistant giggled, glancing at me.
I won’t deny that jealousy didn’t rear its ugly head in my mind, but then who was I to think like that? Emily was Dane’s fiancée. He came last night declaring that he wanted to make up for his mistake, and yet this is what he was doing. Such a two–timer. I blinked my tears away, refusing to get into his trap. He was a wolf and very shrewd. All he ever wanted was to appease his wolf by keeping me close to him. And
he wanted to marry Emily. I lowered my head when

everyone at the shop understood that I was the ‘other‘ woman while Emily was the legit one. My cheeks heated out of sheer embarrassment when they gave me a look of pity and disgust.
“Ma’am,” the cashier said. “There’s a mistake with your payment.”
Emily whipped her head towards her. She sneered, “What do you mean?”
The cashier cringed. “Your payment isn’t going through.”
Hassled, Emily shouted, “You must have inserted the card in the wrong way. Try again!”
The cashier pulled the card out and inserted it again. She typed in the amount and asked Emily to type her PIN. The payment didn’t go through. “Sorry ma’am,” she said. “It seems your card is blocked.”
Emily gasped. Audibly.
