Lucius-Ever Green Series Book Three

Chapter CHAPTER 44

Lucius

Lucius arrived in time for realizing his wife went into labor that night or early morning. Mrs. Swartz gave him a look as to ask where he was. He just ignored her and went over to Chloe's side. The labor was already in full swing.

It was noon by the time the twins arrived. Chloe and Lucius had twin boys named Xzavier and Cole. They each weighted seven pounds. Both of the boys looked like Lucius and had Chloe's eyes and black hair. Lucius felt lucky to have his sons but still did not have the forgiveness from his wife. This still upset him. They took turns holding their sons.

"I am sorry," Chloe apologized to him.

"It’s okay. We will move past our issues. You will move back home after coming home from the hospital." Lucius mentions to Chloe.

"I will be. My mother agreed to stay to help with the twins for a week or two. She wants us to get a break, so that's why she will stay with us," Chloe explained to Lucius.

"That would be amazing," Lucius comments.

Word got out that Chloe had the twins. Margo and Thomas came to the hospital to visit. Both of them went over to look at Xzavier and Cole. Margo was showing now and had to waddle her way over to hug her friend. She congratulated her friend that she was now a mother.

"You have a few months before you are there yet." Chloe laughed and winced from the pain.

Margo only agreed and couldn't laugh too hard due to her bladder. She only smiles and goes on about the future plans for their children. Future playdates. Future birthday parties together. Lucius liked that idea. He secretly did not like it, though. It scared him for his son's to be around other people besides family for now.

The nurse came in to take the twins to the nursery. Lucius looked at Chloe's face. He noticed she was frowning and knew she would miss them.

"You see them later. The nurse did mention that she would help you learn to feed them." Lucius mentions to Chloe.

Chloe only looks at him and turns on her side to get some sleep for a while.

"Where is Ava these days? I haven't seen her in a while." Lucius asked Thomas.

"Ava has been doing online school. She will be tending Billings High in the fall for her senior year. Since leaving EverGreen, it has been easier for her. Ava still hopes Serena comes to visit." Thomas replied.

Lucius nodded and asked, "Does Ian know of her being a werewolf?"

"Not that I know of since his sister is planning the same high school. He had never met Ava since we moved here." Thomas said.

Learning that information surprised him. He never knew that Ava kept herself out of Ian's territory. Ian will be surprised to have a rogue werewolf on his land. That could cause a problem for him.

Chloe was still asleep after their friends had left. Lucius brought his work with him that he needed to finish. Miles showed up soon after Margo and Thomas had left. He sat next to him.

"I am sorry that I hadn't shown up earlier to meet my grandsons," Miles whispered, noticing Chloe still asleep.

"Did that happen when I was born?" Lucius asked.

"No," Miles said, "But the factors will play against you if you divorce Chloe. You will run the council one day, son. I need you to follow through to keep the peace for everyone."

"What do you mean everyone?" Lucius questioned his father.

"I will be stepping down soon, son. I want you to take over for me when that happens. Not anyone else." Miles told Lucius in confidence.

"When will that be?" Lucius asked.

"This fall. I am doing for reasons of my old age. I have been on the council for a long time. I want to retire," Miles admitted.

Learning his father was going to retire, this made him feel more stressed. How was Chloe going to handle the news? Will they have up and move back to Pennsylvania? Knowing it would mostly likely happen when his father steps down from head council leader. Chloe had woken back up from sleeping.

"Chloe, I need to tell you something. My father is retiring from the council and wants me to take over. We might have to move to Pennsylvania. I know this is sudden, but it might have to be done," Lucius said, grabbing Chloe's hands, hoping she would understand.

"What about my life, my friends and my parents that are here?" Chloe sobbed.

"I am sorry. I know that uprooting you from everything you know will be hard. It will take adjusting for all of us." Lucius reassured Chloe.

Chloe took her hands back from him and crossed her arms. She was pissed at him again. Lucius knew he blew it.

"Fine. I will tell my father to give the title to someone else. If it makes you happy," Lucius sighed and walked out of the room to call his father to tell the news.

Another week or two go by, Chloe and Lucius have made a routine when caring for Cole and Xzavier. Chloe's mother stayed with them to help them out when caring for the newborns twins. She made it seem effortless, and now that she left. Things have gotten difficult without extra hands to help.

More time has passed for them. Both Chloe and Lucius have now gotten the swing of things in raising their sons. Chloe went back to work. Lucius did the same and made it clear that he wanted to stay in Jefferson. Miles never questioned his son about anything. Lucius and Chloe also got a better understanding of themselves. They also had stopped arguing and learned to love either. Both of them were looking towards a brighter future together.
