Love's Redemption (Chris and Maddie)

Chapter Redmption 23

Chapter 23

Jewel became livid upon hearing my words.

Honestly, the act she was putting on was terrible. If she wanted to be the third party, she should have done it with confidence, especially since Chris had already given her the house that was supposed to be mine.

She should have been more assertive. But instead, she acted as if she was innocent, even though she was doing something this shameful. It was like she wanted to play both the victim and the villain. "Madeline, Chris won't like you if you act like this."

Jewel actually had the audacity to say that.

I couldn't help but chuckle. I'd be out of my mind if I were still hoping for his affection.

"Keep his affection for yourself," I retorted.

Jewel's eyes instantly filled with tears of grievance, proving that having Gordon! stay was the right decision. Without him, her tears would make any explanation difficult.

"Madeline, what do you mean by that? Aren't you getting married today?" Jewel asked, her eyes gleaming with hope.

Her ambition was evident.

I suddenly didn't want to let her have her way. So, I deliberately replied, "Yes, we are. We'll get married soon. Chris has consulted the fortune-teller.

"The best time for us to get married is at 10:58 am. He said that if we were to get married at that time, we'll have a long and happy life together. We'll be blessed with many children and grandchildren." The excitement in Jewel's eyes shattered into pieces.

Seeing her hopes crumble, I decided to deliver another blow. "After we get married, we'll invite you to our celebration. Don't forget to bring a gift, Mrs. Goodwin."

Jewel staggered; looking like she might fall.

Thinking of her previous antics, I added, "Chris isn't here to catch you if you fall.

Jewel was rendered speechless by my retorts. She merely bit her lip. Her

expression would indeed evoke protective instincts in any man. Perhaps this

was how she won over Chris.

But it no longer mattered; Chris, as of today, was just some guy to me.

Strangely enough, I didn't feel overwhelmingly sad after witnessing such a scene today.

The saying that hearts didn't grow cold in a day made perfect sense. After Chris had hurt me repeatedly, today's incident didn't wound me as much as it might have otherwise. "Let's go, Mr. Yates," I called to Gordon and started to leave.

"Ms. Crown, this might be a misunderstanding. I should at least inform Mr. Gildon and see what he has to say." Gordon held on to me as we exited the building.

He probably knew what my choice would be after witnessing this.

"If it were you, would you believe his explanation?" I asked.

My rhetorical question left Gordon in silence.

I continued, "Don't tell Chris about today."

With that, I walked away.

When I returned to the company, everyone looked surprised to see me.

"Ms. Crown? Aren't you and Mr. Gildon getting married today? Why are you here?"

"I suddenly remembered there are a few important tasks I haven't finished," I replied, leaving everyone speechless.

I had always been diligent and responsible at the company. I never slacked off just because I was the boss' future wife.

"Mrs. Gildon is putting pressure on us. She's leading by example," Kara said jokingly. She also sent a cute emoji.
