Chapter 86
Chapter 86
According to Michael and Quintin, the person locked inside was a crazy servant. Was that really the case?
Caroline was too curious. In the end, she could not help but walk toward the small building.
The door of the small building was locked from the outside, but this was not a problem for Caroline. She used a wire and quickly picked the lock open.
Caroline pushed the door open and walked in. The first floor was pitch–black.
Caroline lit up the flashlight on her phone to dispel the darkness.
There was a faint musty smell in the house. It was caused by the fact that the door was closed all year round, and the air could not be circulated.
After finding the stairs leading to the second floor. Caroline slowly ascended the stairs.
The closer Caroline got to the second floor, the more clearly the woman’s moans could be heard.
The door upstairs was unlocked. Caroline took a deep breath, pushed it open, and stepped inside.
The smell in the room was not pleasant. Under the dim yellow light, Caroline saw a woman lying on the bed.
There was a chain around her neck. Her long hair was messy, and she looked ghastly. There was a hint of despair in her eyes.
“Water… water…
The woman wanted to reach for the glass of water on the bedside table but was too weak to do so.
Caroline was shocked by the scene in front of her. Why didn’t they send such a crazy servant to a mental hospital but lock her up here?
The most unacceptable thing was that she was actually tied up like a dog on a leash.
When Caroline saw that the woman could not reach the glass, she stepped forward to help the woman get it and handed it to the woman to drink.
The woman’s trembling hand finally grabbed the glass and got to drink the water.
After drinking the water, the woman’s strength was depleted. The glass in her hand fell to the ground.
She fell back onto the bed and faced Caroline. She asked in a hoarse voice, “Who are you?”
Caroline was shocked again. From her tone, she did not sound like a lunatic at all.
“I was just passing by. I heard your cry and came upstairs to take a look. Who are you?” Caroline asked.
“Hush.”
The woman made a shushing gesture. “Don’t speak so loudly. They’ll hear you!
“Young lady, kind lady, help me. Save me, and get me out of here…“
“Who are you? Why are you locked up here?” Caroline asked in detail.
“My name is Jocelyn White. Stella is my sister. She is David’s first wife…
“Save me, kind girl. I beg you…”
Caroline was shocked to hear her self–introduction.
Stella was Quintin’s biological mother, and Jocelyn was Quintin’s aunt.
Didn’t they say that it was a crazy servant who was locked up here? But why did it turn out to be Jocelyn?
Caroline had already realized that this was a serious matter. Perhaps even Quintin did not know that his aunt was actually locked up here.
What exactly was the reason?
Before Caroline could think about it, she heard footsteps coming up the stairs. She quickly said to Jocelyn, “Someone’s coming. I’ll hide first!”
Caroline hid in a hidden corner of the house.
Soon, hurried footsteps came in from outside the door. It was Michael who came in with the food.
Michael saw that the lock on the front door was picked open and realized that the situation was bad. He quickly ran upstairs to check. He was only relieved when he saw that the woman was still lying on the bed.
“Did someone just come here?”
Chapter 86
Michael put down the tray and asked.
“I don’t know…” Jocelyn replied calmly.
Seeing that Jocelyn was no different from usual, Michael approached her, helped her up, and began feeding her.
In the dark, Caroline was wondering why Michael had lied.
Michael knew that the person locked up here was not a crazy servant, yet why did he lie?
What was their intention in locking Jocelyn up here?
Did Jocelyn have anything to do with Stella’s disappearance?
What happened next made Caroline’s hair stand on end.
Caroline thought that Michael was a gentleman, but she did not expect Michael to force himself on Jocelyn after Michael fed Jocelyn.
Judging from the familiarity of his action, it probably was not the first time he had done this to Jocelyn. Jocelyn could only endure it silently.
After Michael was done, Caroline heard him say to the woman, “Don’t scream. I’ll go back first. I’ll come and see you again
tomorrow!”
After Michael left, he locked the front door on the first floor.
After confirming that the man had left, Caroline walked out from the dark and glanced at the woman lying on the bed. The woman’s eyes were filled with despair.
“Does Michael often do that to you?” Caroline asked.
Jocelyn nodded with tears in her eyes.
“Do you have anything that can prove your identity? I need to confirm your identity before I can save you!” Caroline asked. Jocelyn thought for a moment and said, “Look at the back of my neck. There’s a purplish spot. It’s a birthmark!”
Caroline leaned over to take a look. Sure enough, she saw a purplish birthmark. “Alright, I got it. Wait for me!”
Caroline left the solitary building after explaining to Jocelyn.
Since Caroline could not leave through the front door, she jumped down from the window on the second floor and landed on the ground effortlessly.
After returning to Tanglevine Residence, Caroline took a shower before returning to the bedroom on the first floor.
Her son, Mayson, was already asleep on the small bed. Quintin was still awake.
When Quintin heard Caroline’s footsteps, he asked, “Why were you gone so long?”
Caroline did not answer. After sitting down on the small bed, Caroline asked, “Quintin, do you remember if your aunt’s name is Jocelyn?”
“That’s right. Why?”
“Do you know where she went?”
“My aunt went abroad. She emigrated many years ago and never came back. But she sends me postcards every year.”
In short, Quintin’s aunt left not long after his mother’s accident.
“Where are those postcards?”
“They are in my study drawer.”
Caroline walked out again. Not long after, she brought back many postcards.
Caroline looked at the postmarks on the postcards one by one. They were actually from all over the world.
“These postcards are from different countries.”
“Yes, my aunt likes to travel and go to different countries. Why are you suddenly asking about my aunt?”
It turned out that Quintin thought that his aunt had been traveling abroad.
Was the woman on the second floor of that solitary building Quintin’s aunt?
distinctive features?”
“I’ve seen a photo of you and your aunt on the wall. I’m just curious. Do you know if your aunt has any Quintin thought carefully about it and said, “My aunt has a purplish birthmark on the back of her neck. It looks like a butterfly.”
That was it!
Chapter 86
Quintin got it right!
The woman on the second floor of the solitary building was Jocelyn, indeed!
Therefore, Quintin’s aunt did not travel or emigrate abroad. Instead, she was hidden against her will in a solitary building in the Ziegler residence. A lie was conjured to pull the wool over people’s eyes, claiming that it was a crazy servant who was
locked up.
At the thought of this, Caroline said in a serious tone, “Quintin, I have to tell you something. You’ll definitely be so shocked that you won’t be able to sleep.
“What is it?” Quintin’s heart tightened.
