Chapter 4

The doctor and nurses ran out of the room at Quintin’s orders. Even the sedated doctor on the ground, Edward Cook, got dragged out of the room by the others.

Subsequently, Michael followed suit and left the room, leaving behind only Caroline and Quintin..

Caroline stared at Quintin quietly. She noticed that even though he was injured and had bandages on his head and a cast from his knees downward, his sculpted features still exuded an irresistible charm.

She took her time admiring his tall nose, thin lips, and thick but furrowed brows.

Meanwhile, Quintin reached out to touch the things on the bedside table. His gaze and actions made it evident that he had lost his vision.

“He’s less abled and blind. It must have been a massive blow to someone proud like him. He’s kind of like an angel with broken wings…” Caroline thought.

She understood how he felt and knew he must be in a lot of pain.

Thus, she bent over and picked up the pillow on the floor before walking over to Quintin.

Quintin could not see anything, but he could hear footsteps approaching. Furious and frantic, he shouted, “I asked you to get out. Why are you still here? I don’t need anyone to take care of me! Scram!”

He was once so proud of his body, yet now he had turned into a disabled person and lost his vision.

At that moment, he felt as though he was living in utter hell, and he did not want anyone to see his miserable state.

“Why should I get out? I was brought here by the Ziegler family to bring fortune. From here on, I’m your wife. You have no choice but to accept it, Quintin Ziegler, declared Caroline as she placed the pillow behind him without any concern about touching him.

Quintin grabbed onto her wrist immediately and said, “What, wife? I didn’t say yes to anything. My family is the one behind it. Ask them to take you away so that you can go back to where you came from. You hear me?”

He then shoved her away with all his might. However, he used too much force and fell back into the bed.

Meanwhile, Caroline stumbled for a bit before she regained her balance. She stared at the furious man in front of her and smiled. “I won’t. I finally got a chance to marry you. Do you know how many women dream of this? After all, marrying you makes me Mrs. Ziegler, the future lady of the Ziegler family. Why should I give up on such a great opportunity?”

“I don’t care what you think. I won’t acknowledge you as my wife no matter what.”

Quintin mistook Caroline for a gold digger based on her words. He thought she was only staying because she had her eyes on the Ziegler family’s background and status.

“Whether you acknowledge it or not, I am your wife. No matter what you think, I’m staying and taking care of you until you

recover, Caroline continued.

It turned out that Caroline was there to repay Quintin’s kindness.

Five years ago, he helped her when she was going through the lowest point in her life.

It was her turn to do the same since he was going through a rough time now.

“I don’t need it! No! You hear me?” Quintin shouted hysterically.

“Seeing how strong and energetic you’re as soon as you’re awake, Mr. Ziegler. I’m sure you’re a tough one to kill, huh?” Caroline teased.

Smoldering with rage, Quintin frowned at her words. His handsome face looked bleak at that instant.

He felt defeated upon hearing the woman’s airy and playful tone.

Quintin could not believe how she could still joke when he was already this furious.

Meanwhile, Caroline pulled the covers off him and pinched Quintin’s foot. The latter’s brows furrowed as he felt a sting from the bottom of his foot. “What are you doing?”

“You’re only suffering from broken bones seeing how you can still feel pain. You’re not disabled. Also, you’re temporarily blind because of a blood clot that’s pressing on your nerves. I’m sure that you’ll see again once the clot resolves.”

“You’re not a doctor. I don’t need your diagnosis. Get out!”

Still, Caroline did not listen to him. Instead, she even boldly inched closer.

“What are you doing?” he asked.

Suddenly, he felt a soft hand reaching into his clothes.

Quintin was shocked. He wanted to stop her, but Caroline grabbed onto his wrist.

Caroline was quite strong herself. She held onto his arm with a half-smile and said, “Everything looks good. It seems you’re still a complete man with your parts intact.”

“How can you be so shameless?”

A few moments later, Quintin finally forced those words out of him.

It turned out that apart from the three nights Quintin got involved with Macy five years ago, he had never been intimate with another woman. He never even let another woman touch him.

Thus, the sudden contact with another woman humiliated him.

“Why? My only concern is your recovery. I can only enjoy my life as a rich man’s wife when you’ve recovered. You got this, Quintin,” said Caroline as she slapped his face lightly to tease him.

Quintin was stunned. There had never been a person who dared to slap him, much less a woman who was bold enough to take advantage of him.

“She must have a death wish,” he thought.

Caroline’s teasing actions left a negative impression on Quintin.

At that point, Quintin was so mad that he could explode at any moment. He even had the urge to grab her by the neck but did not. Instead, he thundered, “Get out! Get out now! I want you to get out of here. I don’t ever want to see you again.

Scram!”

“I already told you that I won’t leave. I’ll take care of you until you recover and leave when you’re back to normal. I might not even agree if you ask me to stay then. Be thankful that you can’t see anything right now. I bet you’ll fall in love with me if you see me. You shouldn’t, though. Otherwise, you’ll suffer.”

No matter what Quintin said, his words did nothing to Caroline. He felt as though he was punching a pillow. It did not hurt, but it drove him crazy.

Quintin was exasperated at that point. He was breathing very heavily as he realized how much of a narcissist Caroline was.

“Fall for her? What a joke!” he m ly scoffed.

Soon. Caroline went outside and asked the housekeeper to clean up the room. Two housekeepers came inside nervously and looked over the man in the bed with fear. They were worried that Quintin would burst out in anger and start smashing things again.

However, the two soon realized that Quintin was no longer mad. Instead, he was lying on the bed,

1, looking at the ceiling with a hopeless expression.

The housekeepers could not help but wonder how Caroline managed to calm Quintin down.

While the housekeepers were cleaning up the room, Caroline went downstairs. She was could be.

When she got to the garden, she heard some noises from children from afar.

She followed the noise and found three children under a big tree some distan”

There were two chubby boys around five or six years old. They were clearly twins and were chanting together, “Clingy little mute, Leon Ziegler! Boo h o! You’re a motherless boy! A ba d!”

The kid, who was the victim, was much smaller. He seemed only around four or five years old.

Even though he seemed weak, he was a fighter. Like a fearless calf, he puffed up his cheeks and rammed them with his head. The chubby kids fell to the ground but quickly got up and grabbed hold of that little boy. They shove him to the ground, causing him to fall face-forward on some leaves and mud. Even his nose crashed into the ground with too much force that it started to bleed.

“How dare you try a stunt like that, you little mute!”

The chubby kids were having so much fun that they burst out in laughter and clapped their hands.

Still, the little boy got up on his feet again and fought back.

Even though his little body was no match against the two chubby kids, he refused to give in no matter how pitiful he looked, with dirt all over his face.

He even glared at the chubby kids when he was lying on the ground.

At that moment, Caroline went over to them. She looked over at that little boy’s dirt and blood-covered face and could tell that he looked very similar to Mayson and Cayson.

That was when she realized the little boy was her firstborn child.

She recalled how the other kids mocked him as a mute. Thus, she could not help but wonder if he could not speak.

Realizing that her son ended up in such a pitiful state from bullying, a pang of heartache hit Caroline.
