Chapter 16
“Hey, woman!”
Unable to move or see anything, Quintin could only wake Caroline up. He yelled in a panic, “Wake up, Caroline!“
“What’s wrong?”
Caroline was jolted awake by his scream. Then, she groped for the light switch.
The room lit up in an instant. She got up and saw him sitting on the bed with a stern expression. His brows furrowed tightly as though he was in utter discomfort.
“Mr. Ziegler, do you need to use the bathroom now?” she asked.
“No! Did you hear anything?”
“What was that? I didn’t hear anything
Caroline got out of bed and put on her slippers. She approached the man and studied him from head to toe. “Did you have a nightmare or a hallucination?”
“It seems that something has crawled in. You’d better quickly look for it.”
Hearing that, Caroline immediately scanned the room. All of a sudden, she jumped in fright.
A snake was moving inside the crib showing its tail, and its head had already slithered up the pillar next to it.
“Eek! There’s a snake!”
A chill ran down her spine when she saw the massive, light-brown-colored snake. Fear washed over her, rooting her to the
spot.
“Why would there be a snake inside the room?” she wondered.
However, it was too late to think about anything, as the snake was only one or two meters away from the sleeping Leon. If the snake were to slither further, it might attack her son at any moment.
Seeing that, Caroline hurriedly picked up the phone and threw it at the snake with no fear whatsoever. She wanted to make the snake retreat before rushing to the crib to pick up Leon. Then, she would put the child in Quintin’s arms.
“What kind of snake is that? Is it venomous?”
Upon hearing the woman’s scream, Quintin sensed something wrong.
“I think it is, but I have no idea what kind of snake it is!” she shouted.
Despite that, she knew it was immensely venomous, judging by the snakeskin pattern.
“If I get bitten, I will surely die!” she spat inwardly.
Caroline’s heart was pounding furiously due to her extreme fear of snakes. Alas, right now, she was the only one who could protect her young son, and Quintin, who was blind and unable to move freely.
Thus, she had to overcome her phobia and figure out a way to kill this dangerous intruder.
“Get the phone and make the call to ask someone to come over!”
Quintin did not want any of them to get hurt by the snake. Unfortunately, he was blind, and there was no phone nearby. It would be impossible to phone someone. Their only option was to ask the people outside for help.
Meanwhile, the snake had already slithered along the wall toward the door. Therefore, there was no way for Caroline to run out and get help.
Furthermore, her phone was near the snake. It would be exceedingly risky for her to try to retrieve it.
Seeing the snake creeping toward her, Caroline turned around and ran toward the cabinet in the room. There was much porcelain in it. Hence, she picked up one without hesitation and hurled it at the creature.
“I’m going to kill you!”
Whoosh!
Hearing the shattering sound of porcelain, Quintin presumed that Caroline had used the porcelain on the shelf as a weapon.
At that moment, he could not even tell her that the porcelains in his room were all national treasure antiques. Each piece of the blue-and-white vase was priceless. Besides, it took him a long time to collect the entire set.
Leon, who was sleeping like a log, was also awakened. He suddenly found himself in his father’s arms while his mother trashed a snake on the ground with a vase.
Unsurprisingly, the child was dumbfounded and worried. “That snake is so big. What if it bites Mommy?” he thought in fear.

He leaped directly off Quintin’s embrace and ran toward Caroline. Seeing her son getting out of the bed, the woman yelled, “Look out, Leo! Go back to your daddy’s side! I’ll deal with this snake!”
Leon had no choice but to take his mother’s warning. He ran back to Quintin’s side. Seeing her struggles, Leon wished he could grow up immediately and become as powerful as a superhero to protect her.
“You’re not dying yet, huh?” Caroline thundered as she continued her onslaught.
“If one isn’t enough to kill you, I’ll grab another piece!” she fumed inwardly.
Whoosh!
Quintin winced every time he heard the shattering sound of porcelain. “Forget about it. No matter how expensive the blue-and-white vases are, human lives come first. Whatever.” he lamented inwardly.
The snake became more aggressive after being attacked. At present, it lifted its body, opened its wide mouth, and hissed, ready to pounce on the woman.
She managed to hit the snake by tossing a vase, causing the snake to miss its target and fall to the floor.
With her superb hand-eye cooperation, Caroline eventually hit the snake’s head with the last porcelain in her hand.
As favored by her ascendancy, she used a stool to smash the snake’s head mercilessly.
After the snake was completely motionless, Caroline finally dropped the stool. She slumped to the floor as though her legs had given way.
Right then, she was so petrified that her clothes were drenched in a cold sweat. Moreover, her face had turned ashen as if her soul had left the body.
The next moment, Leon rushed to Caroline and hugged her neck tightly. Returning his embrace, she kissed the boy’s little face twice.
“Fortunately, everything looks fine now! If any of us were bitten to death by the snake, I would live with regrets for the rest of my life,” she mused.
“Caroline, how are you doing? Is the snake dead?” Quintin did not realize that his voice was currently tinged with anxiety and
worry.
“Yes, it’s dead.”
Propping herself up, Caroline told Leon to return to bed. She had to look around the room to see if there were any more. living snakes.
Luckily, there was no sign of other snakes after scouring the room. With that, she was confident that only one had managed to sneak into their room.
After retrieving her phone, she immediately snapped a photo of the snake and identified its species by using the reverse-image search function on the Internet.
As it turned out, it was a black mamba that originated from foreign countries. Its venom was composed of neurotoxins, and the snake was known as the Grim Reaper of Alendor.
If there were no antivenom after five minutes of getting bitten by the black mamba, it would lead to respiratory failure. The victim could die within 15 minutes without proper treatment. It showed how lethal the black mamba’s bites could be for humans.
Caroline shared what she had found out with Quintin. The latter frowned after listening to her explanation. “Why would there be a foreign snake here? Besides, it’s a highly venomous snake.”
“Isn’t that obvious? Someone clearly wants you dead! If Leo and I hadn’t stayed here tonight, you would’ve been dead by now,” she fumed.
“Who would want to harm me?”
“Well, you’d have to ask yourself who you offended in the past.”
Quintin fell into a deep silence upon hearing her words.
“Who wants me dead so eagerly? First, they tampered with my racing car. Now, they dare to put a venomous snake inside my room. Someone must hate me to the core,” he reflected.
After regaining her composure, Caroline began to clear away the porcelain in the room lest the shattered pieces hurt Leon’s feet by accident.
She gasped in surprise after seeing the seal on the bottom of the porcelain vase. “Oh my gosh. Did I just smash a blue-and-white vase from the Middle Ages? No way! It must be a replica, right?”
The corners of Quintin’s mouth twitched slightly. “Does it matter now? After all, she has already destroyed hundreds of millions of dollars worth of porcelains!” he bemoaned inwardly.

After the room was tidied up, he suggested, “If you’re afraid, you can tell someone to dispose of that venomous snake.”
“Oh. I can handle it myself. Just wait and see. I’m going to use this dead snake to bait the culprit?” Caroline immediately had a great plan in mind.
