Chapter 133
Chapter 133
The room was shrouded in darkness as Miles slept soundly. You could tell that he was exhausted. But the serenity of the night was abruptly shattered by the shrill ring of his phone. It pierced through the silence like a beacon of urgency.
Mile’s eyes flew open due to the cries of his buzzing phone. He groaned in frustration. Who could have been calling him that morning? Who could have been interrupting his peaceful sleep? Who couldn’t wait till the sunny hours of the day till they bugged him. It was only Seven in the morning and that was when his eyes flew to the alarm clock. Wait a minute, it wasn’t Seven in the morning. It was freaking Ten in the morning and he was still in bed. Well, who could blame him? He deserved that much hours of sleep. His sleeping pattern had been more than disrupted these past few days and today his reflexes decided to give back what belongs to Caesar.
He yawned and stretched out to ease his tense muscle and then he reached for the telephone and raised it to his ears, waiting for the caller to express themselves. He was a little frustrated that his sleeping was disturbed but he couldn’t complain. He was the Alpha and he should be used to this already; Sacrificing his sleep to tend to the needs of the pack members. Well, he was getting used to it. Except that, this time it wasn’t the pack members who were ringing from him. This call was from the hospital. The one where Alexia was newly admitted after the transfer. He remembered the last time they placed a call through to him. It hadn’t been
good news, and now they were calling again. What could have possibly gone wrong this time. Fear coursed through me as I heard the nurse speak and mention that she was calling from the hospital. I couldn’t wait for her to spill the reason for her calling.
“Hello?” he spoke, his voice laden with a mix of fear and anticipation.
The voice on the other end, a voice he recognized as belonging to one of the hospital staff, delivered news that left him breathless. “Mr. Miles, we have good news. Alexia’s condition has stabilized, and she has shown signs of regaining consciousness.”
Relief surged through Miles like a tidal wave, replacing the fear that had gripped him just moments before. A wide smile spread across his face. “That’s great news!” Miles announced as he sprung up from the bed he laid on minutes ago in enthusiasm. “Can I come see her?” He paused and continued, “Right now?”
The voice on the other end replied, the reassurance palpable in their words. “Yes, Mr. Miles, you can come to the hospital. She’s awake and asking for you. It seems like she’s recovering. I’m positive that it’s happening.”
A surge of emotions washed over Miles as he absorbed the news that the nurse had just broken to him. His excitement was like a man whose pregnant wife had just put to bed. Joy and a maddening heart pumping sensation erupted within him, fueling his excitement. “I’ll be there as soon as possible. Please let her know that I’m on my way.”
The voice on the other end assured him, “We’ll pass along the message. Take your time, Mr. Miles, and drive safely. Alexia’s in good hands.”

Chapter 133
With a maddening excitement, Miles ended the call, his mind racing with anticipation. He couldn’t wait to see Alexia, to hold her hand and assure her that everything would be alright. As he hurriedly got dressed, he couldn’t suppress the excitement that bubbled within him. He was exhilarated beyond words.
Minutes later, he was on his way to the hospital, each passing second filled with both impatience and a renewed sense of optimism. If not that he had to be alive to see Alexia then. the manner of his reckless driving wouldn’t have mattered to him in the least possible way. He wouldn’t live to see her if he had continued to drive in the manner in which he had started so he cautioned his hands and held onto the steering with great care to survive this feat of driving. The ultimate prize was that; he would get to see Alexia.
He maneuvered the cars and managed to get to the hospital without killing himself and then with haste, he strolled into the hospital with zeal; to see Alexia.
As he stepped into the hospital, a strong sense of anticipation coursed through his veins. He scrutinized the hospital walls and for the first time everywhere seemed to be brighter. Was it because of Alexia’s consciousness? Or maybe he was just making things up in his head or maybe not? He couldn’t tell. All that mattered to him right now, was that he was going to see Alexia again.
And there she was, lying in the hospital bed, her eyes fluttering open as if sensing his presence. A smile tugged at the corners of her lips, and the moment their eyes met, an indescribable warmth filled his heart and made him feel fuzzy and warm on the inside.
“Alexia,” he breathed, his voice filled with awe and love. “You’re awake. I can’t believe you’re finally awake.”
She reached out a weak hand, and he clasped it gently, as if afraid that she might disappear if he held too tightly. “Miles,” she whispered, “You’re here.” She announced, a smile tugging at the corner of her lips.
Of course he was here, Alexia! What stood right in front of you? A hologram? No! Dumbass! It was him, Miles. He was real and yes, you’re conscious.
Miles held Alexia’s hand squeezing it tightly, with concern filling his eyes. Alexia, my love, how are you feeling? Are you in any pain?”
Alexia’s eyes twinkled with a flicker of strength as she mustered a weak smile on her lips. “I won’t deny it, Miles. I’m still feeling some pain, but it’s bearable. I’ll be fine. I promise. She squeezed his hand in assurance.
Miles’s voice filled with tenderness as he brushed a tendril of hair away from her face. You are the strongest person I know, Alexia. I couldn’t be more proud of you for fighting through this. I knew you’d get through this. I’m proud of you, Alexia. You’ve shown incredible courage.
Miles pressed a gentle kiss to her forehead, his voice filled with affection. “I will always be here for you. Alexia. To comfort you, to hold your hand, and to be your rock. Be strong for

me, okay?”
A moment of comfortable silence passed; one which both of them weren’t compelled to fill in the silence with words.
Miles gently squeezed Alexia’s hand and looked into her eyes with love and tenderness. “Alexia, my love, there’s something I need to do. I have to let Michael know that you’ve regained consciousness. He’ll be relieved and overjoyed to hear this news,”
Alexia’s eyes batted weakly. She was gradually recovering from the effect but it was going to take a while. “Of course, Miles. Please, go ahead. I know how much Michael cares for me. Share the news with him.”
