Love Until Death Do Us Part ( Athena Dempsey )

Chapter 36

Chapter 36

Leonard strolled past Newman, and couldn’t help but sneak a few extra peeks at him

Newman had rushed over, forgot his shades, and was decked out in a slick black tailored suit, looking all tall and statuesque. The guy had nurses and patients swooning left and right as he walked by.

Leonard clocked the suit Newman was wearing–it was no cheap getup.

A bodyguard wearing a suit that costs an arm and a leg?

Newman exuded a deep and icy vibe, like he couldn’t care less about anyone around him.

Leonard whispered to Athena, “I’ll be back in a jiffy.”

After he stepped away. Newman looked down at Athena’s delicate, pale face and asked, “How’d you end up like this?”

Newman’s voice was totally emotionless. Athena replied, “Took a tumble on my own.”

“Oh, then you might wanna get that cerebellum checked.”

Athena was livid. She wanted to yell for someone to give Newman the boot!

“Ms. Dempsey, try to relax a bit.”

The doc was about to start stitching up the gash on her arm, and Athena’s face turned ashy. tense as a board.

As the doctor reached out, Athena instinctively shrank back.

*Ms. Dempsey, if you don’t get that arm stitched up, it’ll heal slow and leave one heck of a scar that’s tough to get rid of.”

“Let it scar! I don’t care.” Athena tried to get up and leave, but Newman stepped over and grabbed her shoulder, keeping her in place.

“Newman, let go of me!”

“You’ve been through childbirth, what’s a little pain?”

His indifferent words hit Athena right in the chest, bringing back the agony of giving birth in the dead of winter, overwhelming her.

She was shaking like a leaf, glaring at Newman, “Do you have any idea how much it hurt to give birth alone?”

Her words were like an accusation.

Newman was taken aback, his gaze fell on Athena’s snow–white delicate face, the blush on her cheeks making hearts flutter.

There was this silly gal once, scared of pain, always in tears with a bump or bruise.

But Newman never paid her any mind.

Instead, when he was recovering from a serious injury, that silly girl would rush over the second. she saw him fall or get hurt.

“Newman, where’d you hurt yourself? Let me blow on it.”

“Fuck off!” Because she was a blockhead, no matter how often Newman told her to buzz off, she’d still be right there when he got hurt.

Out of the blue, Newman reached out and covered Athena’s eyes with his hand.

He told the doc, “I’ll hold her down, you make it quick.”

With one shoulder pinned down and her head pressed against his waist by Newman’s other hand, Athena moved her lips, trying to say something, but all she could smell was his crisp, piney scent.

Weirdly enough, she just relaxed. She could feel every stitch the doc made, a tingling piercing sensation on her arm.

The seasoned doc was a bit jittery under Newman’s chilly stare, the invisible pressure emanating from him was suffocating.

“All done.”

Hearing the doc’s words, Athena let out a sigh of relief.

Newman lifted his hand from her eyes, and saw Athena looking pale as a ghost, like a spooked kitten.

“Still hurts?”

“Mhm.” Athena murmured almost reflexively.

Newman flicked her forehead with his finger.

Athena was stunned for a sec, then heard Newman say, “That’ll make the pain go away.”

“Newman, I’ll cast a spell on you, and you won’t hurt anymore!” The silly girl used to flick Newman’s forehead with her thumb and forefinger whenever he got hurt.

Newman hated it, and after she got him a few times, he’d swat away her hand in annoyance whenever she tried to flick his forehead again.

Now, reeling from Newman’s flick, Athena was totally bamboozled.

As Newman noticed something was off with her, Leonard came in with a convenience store bag. “Athena, couldn’t find the candy, only got the plain ones.”

Athena shook off the muddled thoughts in her head, and with a smile

Leonard, “I like the plain ones too.”

Newman scoffed dismissively.

Chapter 36

Atheria had called Newman over to drive her back to Mystic Ridge Villa. Leonard was about to hop into the car with Athena when Newman, already in the driver’s seat, hit the gas.

The car lurched, and Leonard had to pull back his foot, aborting his step into the vehicle.

Newman glanced back, his icy gaze filled with disdain for Leonard.

“I’m only driving Ms. Dempsey.”

The Bishop family’s golden boy wasn’t worth Newman’s time to chauffeur.

Leonard, ever the gentleman, didn’t make a fuss over Newman’s snobby attitude.

He helped Athena close the car door, “Athena, make sure you rest up when you get back. I’ll talk to Grandma about the Bishop Group putting pressure on Nossen Energy.”

Athena replied, “I’ve already handled Nossen Energy. Oh, and Leonard, Kevin has a kindergarten exam next week. Know any top–notch early education teachers? I want to get Kevin some crash tutoring.”

Leonard warmly assured her, “I’ve got Kevin’s teacher covered.”

Leonard watched as Athena drove off.

In the car, Newman said, “You can borrow my son’s private tutor.”

While Payne was staying in Stardale City, his original tutors, the ones who could leave Everglade City, split into two groups. To teach Payne, the elite batch had come to Stardale City. Teachers who couldn’t make it to Stardale City were giving Payne lessons online. These teachers were a shared gem between Payne and Louis.

“Leonard already promised to hook me up with some teachers, didn’t he?”

“The squad teaching my kid are the cream of the crop, the best in the country. Leonard couldn’t land them even if he broke the bank.”

In Newman’s eyes, Leonard was pretty much a nobody.

Athena’s cheeks puffed out a bit, but she couldn’t deny Newman had a point.

After all, those were Mr. Payne’s personal tutors. The thought of her own child being born into the Bradshaw family crossed her mind, and she nipped that unrealistic idea in the bud with a self–deprecating chuckle..

Even if she did manage to have a kid with the Bradshaws, if Newman looked down on her, her kid would be dragged down too and miss out on those top–tier resources

“Alright! Thanks for sharing the teachers, Newman. I’ll leave my son’s academic success in the capable hands of your family’s private tutors.” Athena replied with a sweet tone

Top–notch educational resources were what her child deserved!

Chapter 36

Newman let out a scoff, dripping with sarcasm, “Now you call me Newman. What were your calling me just a minute ago?”

The guy was about to settle the score over her unfriendly comment. Athena stuck out her tongue.

She defended herself with full conviction, “I can’t exactly call you by the nickname in front of Leonard, can I?”

“Athena, we need to get our titles straight when we’re around others.”

Leaning forward, Athena’s warm breath tickled Newman’s ear as she spoke.

“So, what do you want me to call you? Newmie has a nice ring to it, or maybe, Beast Newman? Pick one.”
