Chapter 13 Rudrani was hurt
Ashutosh:
"I want to meet my dad. You can't force your decisions on me Ashu," Rudrani said.
I was shocked by her words. Why do I force my decisions on her? I didn't want her to get hurt by her family again.
"If you have respect for your husband, just go inside," I said looking at her giving serious expression.
Rudrani glared at me which is recognized only by me. She left to room silently.
"Now you can go. My wife didn't want to meet you," I said and went off to our room.
Rudrani was on balcony seeing her dad leaving.
"Rudrani, I am sorry," I said patting her shoulder.
Rudrani's eyes are red with anger. She didn't reply to me and took her handbag to leave.
"Rudrani, wait I will drop you," I said holding her hand.
"Leave me, I can go by myself," she said and left the room.
My wife was angry with me. How to convince her? I followed her and stopped my car near her. I got down and stopped her.
"Rudrani, get into our car," I said.
"No, leave me," Rudrani said.
"Rudrani, don't create a nuisance on the road. Don't make me lose my patience," I warned her pretending anger. However, I can never be angry with her.
She looked around and found people looking at us. She silently got into our car. I started the car. I held her hand with my hand and kissed her hand. Rudrani didn't resist but was calm.
I stopped the car in an area where there was no one. I cupped her face.
"Rudrani, look at me please," I said, but she didn't look at me.
"I didn't mean to hurt you. The problem is I can't see you in tears. If I allow you to meet your dad, he may hurt you. So, to avoid that I forced you to leave from there," I said, and she looked at me.
"I want to meet my dad. I won't let them hurt me. Please Ashu," she said to which I can't say no.
"Okay fine, I will drop you at your house," I said and drove off to her house.
Rudrani got down, and I immediately started my car to leave. I tried to convince her, but she didn't listen to me. I think we had a communication gap. In the evening, I will talk to her and will clear all misunderstandings. Rudrani:
Ashu dropped me at my house but left immediately without looking at me. I should convince him at evening after reaching home. I went inside my maternal house. Mom was surprised to see me there and hugged me. "Rudrani, you are lucky to have Ashutosh as your husband," mom said smiling.
Mom called dad and sister. My younger sister hugged me. My father hesitated to talk to me.
"Dad, why did you visit our home today? Is everything fine? Do you need anything?" I asked.

"No Rudrani, from now your father never asks you anything," my dad said in a chocked tone hugging me.
I was shocked with dad's reaction and couldn't speak anything.
"Rudrani, did you inform to Ashutosh that you are visiting us today? Ashutosh is angry with me. It's not good to come to us without informing him," dad said.
"No dad, Ashu dropped me here," I said.
"Did you fight with your husband to meet us?" My mom asked.
"Nothing like that mom. Don't worry. Ashu can't be angry with me for a long time. I will talk to him after returning home. I know how to convince him," I said, but even I was scared of Ashu this time.
I never saw Ashu that angry. He didn't talk to me when I got down from the car.
"Rudrani, don't fight with Ashutosh for us because he loves you so much. His love is genuine and unconditional. After your marriage, Ashutosh asked to meet him at his farmhouse. I went there, and after talking to him, I realized my fault and what you are," dad said giving me a shock.
"Why did Ashu asked you to meet him?"
"I will tell you everything. On that day, I went to meet Ashutosh," dad explained what happened on that day startling me.
Dad went to the farmhouse to meet Ashu.
"Welcome uncle, how are you?" Ashu asked.
"I am fine, Ashutosh. Why did you call me to come here?" Dad asked.
"Uncle, why do you hate your daughter Rudrani?"
"Rudrani? I hate her from the day she was born. I expected a boy, but my wife gave birth to Rudrani. She was always a burden to me. Rudrani is worth for nothing," dad said.
"If you think Rudrani is worth for nothing, may I know what is your worth?" Ashu asked.
Dad couldn't speak anything with his question.
"Rudrani will be a doctor soon. She completed her studies in spite of many hurdles. She helped the family by doing part-time jobs from her tenth standard. Rudrani sacrificed her choice and married me for you though she misunderstood me as a flirt. Even a son may not do what she did. After marriage, when I asked her to quit job and study without any tension, she refused to do so saying that she must help her parents with her earnings by working part-time.
You sold her to me assuming her as a burden, but still, she took the burden of your family thinking it as her responsibility. Instead of feeling proud of Rudrani, you insulted her many times.
She is a perfect daughter, but you didn't deserve to be her father. A girl is not a burden but a blessing. Daughters are no less than sons. I have seen girls who took the responsibility of their parents better than a son.
For me, you are worth for nothing. You are never a good husband or a father. Your wife and daughters still love you, but you didn't even consider them as humans. Their feelings never mattered to you," Ashu said.
"I can understand the pain of Rudrani. The two important persons in her life, i. e., her father and husband did business with her. Her father sold her and husband bought her. Though she was hurt, she accepted me and is trying to build a relationship with me.
I love Rudrani. I never meant to insult her but to stop that marriage, I offered money to you. I just thought that I was donating money in the name of my wife. I met you to say one thing, Rudrani is my princess. I won't tolerate anyone hurting her. You may not know the value of a daughter, but I know the value of a wife very well. At least now stop hurting her. Every month, I will send a cheque to you for your expenses so don't trouble her. I didn't want you to meet her anytime," Ashu said to dad.
"Rudrani, I realized the value of a girl child and about your love and patience after talking to Ashutosh. That is why I thought to return money to your in-laws. Your father sold you being selfish, but your husband didn't buy you. He offered money only to stop that marriage with your professor. Ashutosh loves you so much," Dad said.
I wiped my tears knowing Ashu's love for me. I immediately hired an auto and went to Ashu's college to meet him. I searched for Ashu, and someone said he was on the playground. I went there. I saw a scene that shattered all my hopes and broke my heart.
"I love you, Artika. I married Rudrani only to save her from the marriage with that old professor. Please try to understand, I love you," Ashu said to Artika kissing her forehead.
Did he marry me only to save me from that marriage? Doesn't he love me? Is he going to leave me for Artika? I didn't meet him and went to my college. Though heartbreak was not new to me, this time it was very hurting to know that my husband doesn't love me. Within a short time, I developed feelings for Ashu, but now I should kill my feelings towards him. I took a deep breath and focused on my study.
