Chapter 18
Chapter 18: Reversal
Serena didn’t have much to explain and calmly replied, “Yes, I was responsible for reviewing these data, I I added some parts to the report when I got home last night, and I haven’t had a chance to communicate with Nina this morning.”
As she spoke, she took out a report on the market share of Boston Food Company. “This report is the result of my visits to supermarkets, restaurants, and retail stores in Boston yesterday afternoon, both in the city and suburbs. The data differs from the report provided by Boston Food Company. As an old brand in Boston, its market share used to reach 65% or even more. But in recent years, with changes in people’s eating and shopping habits, as a local old brand, it has no advantage anymore. Large supermarkets and hotels no longer purchase its products, and only small supermarkets and convenience stores in the suburbs sporadically purchase them. The actual market share is less than 10%. For Boston people, Boston Food Company is more about nostalgia.”
Serena spoke calmly and the report was meticulously prepared, including the necessary visits and data analysis, all presented in detail.
Emma’s brow finally relaxed a bit, and then she threw the report in front of Nina. “Learn from her. I gave you a day of free time, and you thought it was for you to visit various tourist spots? Serena used these two days not only to investigate the actual data of Boston Food Company, but also to help Future Better Technology Company set up the venue and smoothly add Eric’s assistant on WhatsApp”

Nina’s face turned red, wanting to argue, but found that she couldn’t say a word.
Emma continued, “You were given the same opportunity, but in the time of one day, while you were sightseeing, others have left you far behind.”
Although Nina was also an assistant lawyer in the department, she was lively, sweet–talking, and knew how to please others, making her the team’s darling. Several lawyers usually spoiled her, while Serena, who spoke little and was accustomed to being alone, had no presence in the department.
One of the lawyers spoke up for Nina, “If we’re on the same business. trip and there’s work to be done, why can’t we discuss it and go together? Isn’t this acting alone just to grab credit? Serena, I’m a straightforward person, don’t mind me, but your behaviour is indeed inappropriate and lacks team spirit.”
A few other lawyers also nodded slightly in agreement, feeling the same way. Emma despises people who are too clever for their own good.
Only Lawyer Charlie Jordan spoke up for her: “So what you’re saying is, you want to be lazy and then blame the people who work proactively? Although Serena hasn’t been with us for very long, think about all the miscellaneous tasks you’ve given her – which one hasn’t she done well? Even though she hasn’t been assigned to any projects, she helps with organising and managing the progress of the projects you all have. Whenever you need information, she can provide it right away.”

“Serena’s only problem is that she quietly does a lot of work, but she’s not good at expressing herself, which is why you’ve overlooked her. Today, I’m formally requesting that Emma let Serena come work on my project, and I will personally guide her.”
Serena looked at Charlie Jordan in s rise. She had been at the law firm for more than half a year, and Charlie had indeed taken care of her. But she didn’t want to work with Charlie. Charlie’s way of handling cases was wild and unconventional, even a little rough, which wasn’t necessarily a bad thing, but it didn’t suit her personality. She wanted to work with Emma, who handles cases based on her professional ability.
As Serena was considering how to politely decline Charlie, Emma suddenly interjected, “I can’t give you Serena for the Future Better Technology Company case. I’ll take her myself.”
