Love Legacy & Courage (book 2)

Chapter 9: Desperate Decisions

It was late in the afternoon when we landed at this remote base, but I began to feel relieved when it said US military base, virgin islands and I knew we were in good hands. Armed soldiers came out and surrounded us until Mac gave them a pass code and they asked "do you have the serum" and I said yes" and the soldier who's name tag read: O'Connor said, "I'll take you to see Mr. president right away, just follow me". When we arrived at the president's office, he said "where are your parents" and before I could say anything, mac projected a visual playback of the events at the bunker earlier and he said, "the longest we can wait is a couple of days, then it'll be up to someone else to tell us the plan because we have no info on this chemical". Mac took out a flash drive and said "here Mr. president; this drive contains all information that your men can analyze while we wait" and the president said "thanks and I'll have my soldiers show you where you'll stay and give you some rations" and I said, "thank you Mr. president for your hospitality" before leaving his office and following the soldiers to our room.

Our room was a normal-sized cabin that was fitted like a tropical hotel room with 2 king-sized beds, a television, and a bathroom and I smiled and said I could get used to this as I went to go run a nice relaxing bubble bath and Ernie started watching comics while Mac sat down at the desk in the corner and continued analyzing data. Several days passed as we enjoyed beautiful beaches and lakes but still, no word from our parents was heard, and just as I began to lose hope, a soldier knocked on the door telling us that our parents had arrived and were being taken to a medical facility. Me and Ernie tried to get in to see them but the doctor told me that Dad was in critical condition; suffering from massive blood loss, multiple lacerations, a gunshot wound, and mild head trauma. Mom, however, had more mild injuries which included several fractured ribs,2 broken legs, and 1 broken wrist and she was in a medically induced coma to reduce her pain level.

Grandma came in and said "your parents fought the augments in hand to hand  after we escaped the safe house" and despite the genetic enhancements, I'm not sure if they'll recover anytime soon so the mission falls on us, and Mac contains the key". Grandma said "your parents prepared for the possibility that they might be injured so they stored the plan inside of Mac's memory banks under heavy encryption that prevented him  from remembering or even accessing it". Grandma turned to Mac and said "access plan sierra 1;authorization code 442 alpha red and Mac said "state second access code and grandma said "code crimson black 0607 delta" and Mac said "authorization confirmed, downloading requested file". Later that day, grandma showed the president the proposal and he said "well meet at 6 am in the briefing room tomorrow, to discuss the details but all I could think about at the moment was how I was going to avenge my parents and kill Mr. Gearing even if I have to deal with the guilt afterwards for the rest of my life.

When we arrived in the meeting room, I sat down and said the plan is not very simple guys. I pulled up a map and showed these red blips all across the US and I said "these represent major facilities that the augments use, based on Intel gathered by military scouts in each state. The reports say that at night the augments return to the facility to sustain their special needs, but there's no further information, but we do know the facility is vital and if attacked, they would send all forces to recover the facility and this is where we come in". I said, "well spend 2 weeks mustering enough forces and will arm them with special guns that will cell disruptions so they can escape but once all the augments or a huge percent converge on the facility, we will use our modified missile scuds with chemical warheads to kill them and adapt stealth technology to the missiles so that they won't be detected".

Mac told the president that the missiles don't affect normal DNA but only effect augments DNA and that we would need 55  modified missiles as well as distraction forces, jamming frequencies, and mass production and distribution of weapons to all our forces. The president said "very well, if a machine tells me its doable then I'll hush my generals and tell them were going along, however, it'll be a month or two before we can have this prepared with our limited facilities and I said "well take care of production and distribution while you take care of the missiles" and he shook y hand and said "deal". I turned to mac and grandma and said "we've got to go back to the safe house for those kitchen replicators and rewire then to produce the weapons and grandma said "that's doable, but Mac will have to accompany you if I'm going to let you go alone" and I said "Mac's part of the team, I wouldn't have it any other way.

Later that night, we launched, heading for the safe house while Ernie stayed with grandma and all I could think was what would we find upon returning. As the car docked at the safe house and we looked around, we knew we were in for one major challenge.
