Love Legacy & Courage (book 2)

Chapter 12: The Final Aftermath

As we continued on course for home base, everyone's faces went from happy to worried as our victory began to feel bittersweet and Ernie seemed to be the only one with optimism. When landed at the base, early in the morning, buildings were on fire, piles of dead bodies, both human and augment littered the island and dozens of medical tents were set up. I checked each tent, looking for mom and dad before checking med bay but there wasn't any sign of them so I went to search the cabin, and inside was mom dad grandma, Mr. Gearing, the president, and his officers. They were torturing Mr. Gearing for intel on the remains of any cells left and teasing him, which I admit, he deserved for all his crimes. After the president left, he said "dispose of the portioner Mr. bowman" and dad said "with pleasure" as grandma lead us out of the cabin before loud agonizing screams from Mr. gearing were heard. Later that day Mr. gearing was buried at sea, followed by the president announcing that he was returning home to Washington.

The next morning during breakfast, mom and dad announced that we would be leaving for home as well and by late evening we were packed and en route to Sherbrooke. Unfortunately, when we arrived late that evening, the house had major fire damage but mom and dad smiled at each other and said "don't worry kids this was our home but we've got a something else in minded stayed in town for the next 2 days at a hotel to say goodbye, however, Jamie had already left and I wasn't planning on saying goodbye to any of my friends. After this whole ordeal, I've realized how snooty and self-centered all of them were and that's not who I wanted to be anymore, I felt like a new me was born out of all of this.

[Frankie's pov] Two days later we arrived at the safehouse and grandma said "this place needed a renovation anyways" and Isabella said "agreed" and I said "no more remodeling down here, but speaking of remodeling lets go upstairs. I took everywhere upstairs into the basement of my old childhood home that sat on top of the safehouse and I said "this is our new home" and Camilla said but this house is no better than our other home and I said "true but this house is where  I lived with your grandpa and grandma before their untimely passing" and I pointed across the street and said "that was where mommy lived, but a few years ago we sold her house and they had it rebuilt" and grandma said "it'll be fun kids" and Ernie said "as long as Mac's here I'm fine" and Camilla said, "I'll be fine as well".

[Camilla's pov] After helping clear away the rubble from the safehouse mom smiled at me and said "go see your little friend and I smiled and gave her a hug and went to go meet Jamie after I called him. When I arrived in the park, he was setting on a bench as I walked up and said "is this seat taken?" and he smiled and said "no", so I sat next to him and looked him in the eyes and said" I'm sorry for all these years I've ignored you and I've realized that before all this mess, you were there in the shadows cheering me on and well  I like you" and a few seconds later I leaned in and kissed him on the lips and gosh It felt weird but electrifying. Afterward, I told him that we were a couple and he smiled and kissed my cheek and walked me back home".

[Frankie's pov] After about 3 weeks of solid around the clockwork, the safehouse was restored to its former condition, thanks to Mac and the replicators and with the completion of the safehouse, life began to get back to normal. The kids went back to school, made new friends, the nation was recovering and rebuilding, and everyday me and Isabella took stock of the company's profits. Within 4 months we were able to move into our new, remodeled house with a few additions added on for the kids to have more room. The replicators made our life easy but sadly we had to return it and mac to the bunker as the world wasn't ready for the responsibility that comes with such technology, but sometimes Mac could be found upstairs playing with Ernie and helping around the house once in a while. so that was great for him and it really made him feel like family.

The family was better off now than we were and as I sat in my dad's old den which was now mines, I saw his ghost and he said "good job son on finishing our work, you've got a fine family son and you've made a fine father but remember that no matter how old you get, I'll still guide you, but you never really needed it just like your kids don't anyways take care son and trust your kid's instincts from here and there cuz' I'm sure you'll find that the apple doesn't fall far from the tree" as he winked at me before disappearing. The Bowmans were finally back home and life finally felt right and it was all thanks to Mr. Harvey and his resistance. I left my office and went upstairs to watch the children as Isabella joined me and I couldn't help but smile and tell her they're gonna be just like us and she smiled and said "oh bigtime" as I looked out the window at the clear blue sky, knowing that what we've done has created a clear and bright future for our family as well as the other children.
