Love conquers all

Chapter 12. It was too late!

At the entrance I found Nathan waiting with his bag at his feet, which compared to my suitcase was nothing.

“Good morning, little bird!” He greeted me with a kiss on the cheek. I was about to complain but I heard someone behind me and I immediately understood why he had not kissed me on the lips.

“Good morning, Alpha, Luna!” Nathan greeted my father and mother who were at the door to watch us go.

“Good morning, Nathan! Take care of my little girl these days.” My father recommended himself, it was as if he were delivering his precious package.

“Dad ...” I said in a reproachful tone.

“What’s up?” Asked my father nonchalantly.

“I can take care of myself and I’m not a child!”

“Sorry but I won’t apologize for that, you are my precious baby!” I took a big sigh, it was useless to reply, so I greeted my parents and turned to Nathan: “Let’s go or we’ll be late.”

“Yes, come on. Alpha, Luna, Val, I’ll take care of Myra in your absence.” The fact that Nathan reassured them every time was something I was starting to get used to, but it didn’t prevent me from rolling my eyes which allowed everyone to smile. They greeted us by shaking their hand and not looking away until we were no longer in their optical vision.

When we got to where the bus would pick us up, we found Abby arguing with the driver. She had, as predicted, three suitcases with her and the driver had been ordered to load two per person.

“Abby what’s going on?” I asked, looking at the poor driver with compassion.

“I’m trying to get my third suitcase on board!”

“I’m sorry miss but orders are orders.”

“That suitcase is mine.” Nathan suddenly said.

“No. it’s...” the driver was about to say something but Nathan immediately added without giving him time to continue: “You said two suitcases each and I have a bag and a suitcase.” Pointing to Abby’s suitcase.

“Okay guys, go take your seat on the bus now.” Said the driver now exasperated and exhausted to argue again.

“Thanks Nathan!” Abby said as we were walking to the bus entrance.

“How you filled three suitcases for only four days is still a mystery to me, but you are welcome.”

We got on the double-decker bus and took a seat upstairs, exactly in the middle and Nathan let me take the one by the window.

He placed the backpacks on the compartment above our heads and took a seat next to me. After half an hour the bus left full of students and only four teachers for supervision. One for each supernatural species.

The bus ran on the highway, the landscapes changed constantly, and the music was the background. It was a journey that would take about nine hours. And the first was already over.

Andrea approached us and joyfully said: “Nathan at the end you loaded a suitcase and a duffel bag, huh!”

“I didn’t think it was possible either, yet it happened!” Nathan replied sarcastically as he closed the book he had in his hands.

“For those wandering around the corridors, please take a seat, we are about to make the first stop!” Communicated the driver over the speakers.

Andrea went to her place and Nathan put my hand to his lips, kissed it and said: “Do you want to spend time with your friends?”

“What will you do?”

“I’ll be thinking about you!” He said looking straight into my eyes with a look that melted me. He shortened the distance between us and kissed me passionately.

“You have a thirty minute break, treasure it because the next one will be in four hours for the lunch break.” Communicated one of the accompanying professors over the speaker, which caused the end of our kiss.

“There are four days to live together and it is right that part of these are spent with your old friends. Remember: I am happy if you are happy.”

“Nathan ...”

“Shhh, just be happy.” Suddenly the bus stopped and he kissed me quickly and got up. I thought he was going away leaving me alone in the corridor, but it was there that he held out his hand to get out of the bus together.

“Fly free, little bird!” He said nodding in the direction my friends were. Without saying anything I gave him a quick kiss, smiled at him and joined my friends.

We went to the bar to have a sweet breakfast: croissant and coffee. We were sitting at the coffee shop table to taste our orders.

“So what did you think about doing for Nathan’s birthday?” Abby asked me, making me think of an inquisition, but above all that I hadn’t thought about that topic at all. Nathan’s birthday, for me, was the loss of my virginity, the moment of discovering whether or not I was destined to be a Mate; I hadn’t thought about throwing a party.

“Actually ... I haven’t thought of anything”; I admitted, shamefully embarrassed.

“Why, it’s his eighteenth birthday, for a werewolf it’s ... you know very well what it represents!” Andrea said incredulously.

“If you want we can help you organize something, even if we are outside our territory.” Kindly suggested Aurora sipping her coffee and milk.

“I don’t know if Nathan will be happy with a surprise party and then it’s the day after tomorrow”; I said trying to think about how he would react, but the truth was that I had absolutely no idea!

“We think about it, then we consult and organize”; Abby suggested, gulping down, right after her cake.

“We could also have an evening with friends at the disco, Na ...” shortly after Andrea was about to complete her proposal, but remained silent, because she had noticed Nathan not far away, who with his supernatural hearing could have heard and ruined his surprise.

After we finished breakfast we went to queue for the toilet, to finally return to the bus where Nathan was waiting for me. He was leaning with his back on the metallic gray sheet of the bus. He had a serious expression, the dark look that penetrated my soul, sent a shiver of excitement down my body. How could this have happened in such a short time? I kept wondering why I felt in love. I was totally lost on the “beautiful and damned”.

“Did you have fun with your friends, little bird?” He asked me as I approached him and I just nodded, I was in an urgent meeting with my brain and body. There was a question to be resolved immediately. I was excited! Nathan gave me a mischievous grin and pulled me into his arms. When I landed on his chest and his sensual words entered my ear, the brain encoded the message. The message was crystal clear: it was too late!

“I can smell your excitement!”

It was definitely too late!

“Guess whose fault it is?” I asked him in a reproachful tone.

“I hope to be the answer, otherwise someone will have a problem!” He said threateningly, holding me in his arms and I giggled and confirmed: “Of course it’s you, silly!”

“Well, then that means I’m the one in trouble.”

“Why?”

“Did I ever tell you that Falco, my wolf, is an Alpha?”

“No, but I imagined it. So, what do you mean by that?”

“I mean your scent of excitement is driving us crazy. How can I sit next to you and keep Falco from jumping on you? An Alpha is very difficult to control!”

“I understand, I propose something to you.”

“Tell me, little bird.”

“I’m going to sit with Aurora for a while just long enough to recover and then everyone goes back to their seats.”

“Okay, who’s sitting next to her?” He asked in a strange tone of voice, I couldn’t understand his state of mind.

“There’s Walter, he’s a sorcerer.”

“Ok, very good. Let’s make the change.”

“What is it!? I see a drop of cold sweat on your forehead, wouldn’t you have agreed to change if Abby was there?” I grinned as I finished the sentence, it was clear on his face that I had hit the spot.

“No, that is ...”

“Nathan, I know Abby may seem a little bit of a brawler, but she’s a dragon, so a little short-tempered, touchy, even nasty, but I assure you she’s a wonderful person.”

“I trust you and I want to know, love and appreciate everything that is part of your life.” I looked him straight in the eye and suddenly said, “I love you, Nathan Johnson!” That sentence escaped my lips faster and easier than I had imagined. Was it too early to tell? Was it meant to be said at another time? To these questions I could not give an answer, the only thing I could be sure of was: that was the sentence, or rather the feeling I felt, the need to externalize, at that very moment.
