Love Began with the First Meeting

Brian took the food containers from Molly's hands and put them into the resting room inside the office. Curling her mouth, Molly said, "Your son is so terribly busy, but you're reading newspapers in such a leisurely manner." "It's impossible for me to help him all the time," Brian said indifferently. "This is the inevitable path he has to take as a candidate of the power holder."

Brian applied different education polices to his three children. He was the strictest with Mark. Brian didn't allow him to make any mistakes. That was because he was the eldest one of the three children. He required much less from Charlie, the twin brother of Evelyn. Charlie was allowed to do whatever he was willing to do. He had more freedom to be a child. As for Evelyn, his only daughter, it could be said that Brian was spoiling her. Even if Evelyn wanted a star from the sky, he might try his best to get her one. His attitude towards the children put into practice the saying; that a son should be raised in poverty while a daughter should be raised in wealth.

Of course, the saying wasn't referring to the children in a literal sense.

In Brian's opinion, a son had to learn how to survive in a tough environment. Otherwise, they would never be able to deal with problems independently when they became men. Meanwhile, a daughter should have a colorful life. Otherwise, she would not emit the brilliance from within her.

Fast forward to many years ahead, as Brian had expected, when the boys grew up and became men, both Mark and Charlie were able to work independently. While Evelyn really gave out brilliance. However, the little daughter also grew into an iron lady, which was obviously beyond what her father had expected.

Mark had asked Molly to wait a minute, but Molly had been waiting for nearly half an hour until he had finally finished his work at hand. Sometimes Molly felt it was too tiring to be one of the sons from the Long family. If Brian had settled down in Dragon Island, as his children, maybe Charlie and Evelyn would have ended up the same as Mark, who currently had many irons in the fire.

While eating, Molly regarded the father and son. Despite the mealtime, Brian and Mark didn't stop talking about serious topics. Mark wanted to take full advantage of his father's presence in Dragon Island, allowing him to play his role to the fullest extent possible. Seeing the light of admiration shining in Mark's eyes, Molly knew that nobody was able to compare with his father in his heart.

"Have your meal first!" Molly scolded while glaring at Brian angrily. It seemed that their work could never be finished. At ten years of age, Mark's childhood was already taken from him. Surely he could at least enjoy a meal in peace without discussing work-related issues? Upon hearing what Molly had said and the expression that she wore on her face, Mark and Brian looked at each other and smiled. Then Mark took some food over to his mother and said in a soft voice, "Mommy, please don't blame papa. He isn't forcing me to do anything. I just want to learn as much as I can from him." As he said that, he rubbed Molly's arm affectionately with his head.

He didn't show his childish aspect in front of anybody, but his mother was an exception. Due to his upbringing, he had been more sensible than ordinary children. Besides, after being trained as a candidate for the power holder of Dragon Island, attending exchange study in the special troops, and dealing with some affairs now, he became increasingly mature for his tender age. In his opinion, he wasn't only the eldest son of Brian and Molly, but also the elder brother of Charlie and Evelyn. Moreover, in the future, he would be likely to serve Dragon Island and fight for the citizens of Dragon Island as well as the employees of the Dragon Empire Group.

It was a significant burden and responsibility for Mark to undertake on his small shoulders. However, he had to be prepared as best as he possibly could for when he was older, and it was better to start with that preparation as early as possible. His thought not only involved the possibility for a member of the Long family. It also included the responsibility he was willing to undertake for Charlie and Evelyn's sake.

More or less, he hoped that Charlie wouldn't return to Dragon Island or the National Congress. He thought that it would be enough to sacrifice his own life for the burden of these responsibilities, and he did this on his own accord. He hoped that Charlie and Evelyn would enjoy the freedom and do whatever they wanted to do in the privileged luxury that they had been born into, being the children of the Long family.

Given all that, the three of them had the meal together while Brian and Mark kept talking about work. However, the atmosphere was particularly harmonious. Both Brian and Molly felt they owed Mark a lot, both before and after his birth, and even now. Mark was like a gift from God. Because of him, Molly and Brian had developed an unbreakable bond.

After dinner, Mark went back to his desk to work, and Brian read a financial magazine. Molly looked up at Brian and said slowly, "Brian, I saw Becky before I came here."

Upon hearing that, Brian frowned slightly inside, and then he looked up from the magazine to Molly with a questioning look.

Molly shrugged without much emotion on her face. She curled her mouth slightly and said, "I felt a little tired after going shopping, so I went to a cafe nearby to have a rest. Later I ran into Becky. She works in that cafe." After saying that, she drooped her shoulders and leaned against the sofa, as if deep in thought. Then after a moment she let out a sigh and said, "Becky has changed a lot. I don't know why, but I had mixed feelings when I saw her."

She wondered where her resentment came from. Was it because Becky had accused her mother and her of being the third party in a derogatory manner when she was just a child? In the end, Molly had turned out to be the "third party" between Brian and Becky when they had grown up. Although she hadn't done it intentionally to hurt Becky, there was something that Molly couldn't get over and let go of. It bothered her greatly why Brian had given Becky her corneas.

Even though it had happened a long time ago and she couldn't remember all of the details but it was something that she took to heart, and it had been gnawing away at her for years. It wasn't because she was mean or held a grudge. If there were anything that remained unresolved between Brian and Molly, that would be the issue about her corneas.

All she wanted was an explanation to why Brian had given her corneas to Becky. Although Molly's eyes had healed in the end, she couldn't understand why Brian, on the one hand, had been hurting Becky and yet at the same time had been treating her well. It didn't seem to make any sense.

Brian noticed the changing expressions on Molly's face and knew the struggle that was going on in Molly's mind. He could guess what she was thinking about, as always. He had secretly arranged Becky's job at the cafe. Despite the relatively harmonious environment on Dragon Island, a disabled person couldn't always avoid being discriminated against.

The Yan Family had been punished severely, and Becky had deserved her share of the punishment. In Brian's opinion, he didn't feel sympathy for her. However, ever since he had been together with Molly, his cold heart had softened over the years. Besides, Becky was Molly's cousin.
