Chapter 5
Chapter 5 Eleanor Is Troublesome
The next day, Eleanor and Wesley would register for marriage. Before going to City Hall, Wesley gave Eleanor a piece of paper. “Check it. If you have no objections, sign your name. Then we will go to City Hall.” Eleanor took a look at the paper, which showed the title: Marriage Agreement. The marriage would last for two years. It was a secret marriage during which they mustn’t interfere with each other’s life. The husband would provide for the wife, while the wife would make the husband’s family happy. If necessary, the wife would attend some parties with the husband. The marriage would terminate in two years. The husband’s possessions had nothing to do with the wife. The wife would take nothing from the family. If the wife was unwilling to divorce after two years, the husband had the right to send her to prison! Eleanor was unhappy to see this item. “Why am I restricted? What should I do if you don’t want to divorce me?” Wesley said with determination. “That’s completely impossible.” “It depends. You should add one more item. If you don’t divorce me in two years, your possessions will belong to me!” Wesley glanced at Eleanor. What a greedy woman! She agreed to marry him just for money. Oh! In the end, Wesley still agreed. Anyway, he believed that he would divorce her in two years. Eleanor continued and spotted the last item. Love-making wasn’t allowed during this relationship! It was highlighted, which meant that it was important. At first look, Eleanor didn’t understand it. “What does it mean?” Wesley said, “It’s an agreed marriage. In other words, it’s numerous. Don’t try to allure me. I won’t touch you.” Now Eleanor got it. She flushed and rolled her eyes at Wesley. “Please rest assured. I’m not interested in you! You’d better behave yourself. If you dare to touch me, I will kill you.” Wesley pulled his face. “I won’t touch you even if I die!” “You’d better keep your word!” After signing it, they went to register for marriage. They didn’t talk to each other. After arriving at City Hall, the staff suspected that they had gone to the wrong place. They didn’t look like getting married, but divorcing. After registering, Wesley took Eleanor to the old mansion as Alfred wished. Looking at the registration document, Alfred just couldn’t stop smiling. Alfred adored Eleanor very much and showed concern for her. “You’re married now, and you’re one of the Laurier family. If anyone dares to bully you, just tell Wesley. He will support you! If he dares to bully me, just tell me. I’ll always side with you!” These words warmed Eleanor. It was true that she didn’t like Wesley, but she thought Alfred was a good man. “I know. Thanks, Alfred.” “Don’t be silly. We’re family. Never say thanks.” When Eleanor was out feeding the fish, Wesley couldn’t help but bring it up. “Who is she?” Alfred narrowed his eyes. “Haven’t you found it out?” Wesley didn’t respond. He admitted it. Alfred smiled and looked at Eleanor with a tender face. “She is well-protected.” Wesley was more curious. “Who is protecting her?” Alfred didn’t answer. Wesley continued. “I’ve married her, so there is no need to hide anything from me.” But Alfred shook his head. “But this marriage will only last for two years. If you promise not to divorce Eleanor for life, I will tell you everything.” Wesley hesitated. Compared with his curiosity, he would rather divorce Eleanor. Eleanor was disobedient. And she was troublesome! Alfred said, “It’s still early. When you fall in love with her, ah…” Alfred suddenly let out a long sigh. His face looked stern. “You see, she looks very happy because she is protected well. She knows nothing. If she knows the truth, she won’t be happy anymore. “Eleanor is a poor girl. She is more miserable than anyone you know. Wesley, don’t maltreat her. Be nice to her.” Wesley said, “Why is she miserable? What doesn’t she know?” Alfred sighed and shook his head, signaling him not to pester. Wesley was very confused.
