Love After Cheating by Lola Garcia

Chapter 4

Chapter 4

Lola was injected with a large amount of sedative.

Even if she is treated, her condition is not optimistic, and she may suffer from memory loss or dementia.

The man taken away, Michael Hunt, was indeed Lola s legal husband, and their marriage certificate was obtained at

year ago.

What was even stranger was that the phone number I recognized was registered under Michael’s name.

Could all my doubts over the past few months just be my own paranoia

Did I remember the wrong phone number?

But the voice in the operating room that night was unmistakably Eason‘ s!

I couldn t have been wrong. I’ve known and been with him for ten years.

Joe did not tell the police that I was investigating my husband‘ s infidélity. I only said that I was a drone enthusiast and happened to capture a video of Michael’s wrongdoing.

However, after being investigated and giving a statement at the police station, Michael was released.

The reason was simple. Lola had a serious history of mental illness, and her hospitalization records at the mental hospital were quite complete.

In public, Michael has always been a devoted husband who never left Lola’s side during her illness.

According to Michael, he couldn’t bear the pain after seeing Lola lose her child, so he injected her with medicine during one of her episodes, not expecting to exceed the dosage.

I didn’t know how Michael controls the dosage accurately.

But he might have achieved his goal,

Lola woke up after being in a coma for three days.

When she saw me, her eyes were blurry. She tried hard to recognize me but seemed unable to.. “Have we met somewhere before?”

“I’m Dr. Moore. Don’t you remember we met last week?”

She thought for a moment, then shook her head as I expected.

“I can t remember.”

“Was I sick last week?”

“Uh…you were pregnant…”

Before I could finish, Lola rubbed her belly, joy spreading across her face.

“I remember now! I m pregnant with my husband‘ s child!”

“Doctor Moore, my husband loves me so much. He dreams of me giving birth to our child.”

She looked so happy that I couldn’t bear to tell her that the child was gone.

I accidentally flipped through a photo of Eason, and sure enough, Lola shouted happily.

“Doctor Moore, do you know my husband? Where did you get this photo? This is exactly what my husband looks like when he solder.”

What?

How could Eason in the photo be considered old?

He was just more mature now than when he was 20.

My suspicion was confirmed.

The husband Lola mentioned and the husband on the marriage certificate seemed to be different people.

However, when Michael came to the hospital to pick her up, she happily threw herself into his arms and called him “husband” sweetly.

I was utterly confused.

Maybe she really was mentally ill, and her memory was confused?

This explanation felt far–fetchied. As a medical professional, I couldn’t convince myself. It was too weird.

Unless there was one possibility: Lola was pretending.

It was easy to prove if she was pretending.

No one knew that after the internist performed a gastric lavage on Lola, I examined the contents of her stomach. There was a small Cupid USB drive.

When the CT scan showed foreign objects in Lola s stomach, we helped her wash it out.

It wasn’t long after she swallowed it, so the Cupid USB drive was nearly intact when it was retrieved.

When I got home, I went to the study and looked through Eason’s bookcase.

I remembered that Eason had customized a pair of Cupid USB flash drives for Valentine’s Day because I had lost my school USB drive for recording experimental data. He specially customized an anti–loss Cupid for me.

However, the Cupid in Lola s stomach no longer had its chain.

I searched for a while but couldn’t find the USB drive.
