Lost Treasure: Into the City

Chapter 12

I called Ramon after supper Monday night. I thought about him all day Sunday and throughout school. Ben asked me about my weekend with Michelle. He did not like the fact about me meeting Ramon. I think he’s jealous. I can’t help that, I told him we are only friends.

He will never understand, he’s human and Ramon is not. There are so many questions I have. He is the only contact I have right now.

Ramon sounded happy that I called. I found out that there are a lot of werewolves that live in all the big cities, mainly rogues. They live among humans hiding their wolves. There are places in each city where just wolves hang out, but you can find them by smell.

He also told me more about scent blockers, but they are hard to get. I would have to find a dealer on the street and they’re hard to find. You must know someone. He said they are also where I’d have to get a heat suppressor tablet once I turn sixteen. I guess he has an older sister.

Tim adopted the two ten years ago. It came as a surprise when she turned sixteen at her first shift. However, he found a werewolf group searching the internet and they helped Tim get what he needed.

He gave me a link to this group and said they would help Kim, too. Which I thought was cool. He wanted to know about my pack. I still don’t know who is behind the attack, so I did not reveal much.

I told him my parents and siblings were killed by rogues. Turns out his was too, apparently that is a common problem among packs. I asked him why.

He said some do not want to conform to the human world or follow an alpha, so they jump from pack to pack raiding them for food, looking for their mates, or to kill out of boredom. That’s why the trespassing laws in each pack are so strict. A rogue never comes into a pack just to say hello, they’re usually up to no good.

Makes sense, Father always had his best warriors patrolling our borders, for what, I never knew why. The pack was divinely hidden. So I thought. We rarely seen random rogues get past them.

I haven’t gotten the courage to tell Kim yet. I have time though. I explore the link myself, which has a bunch of chat rooms, blogs, and shows the places in Knoxville where the werewolf’s zones are. I can also connect to different cities through it. I found a pack directory tab, but it needed a password. I’ll have to ask Ramon about it.

I was up till midnight on the web before I went to bed. The nightmares still came every night, so it wasn’t unusual for me to stay up late. Every morning I wake to cold sweats and a sore body from trembling in my sleep.

A nice hot shower always makes me feel better. I get ready for school and eat breakfast. Then Kim takes me to school.

I meet Jade at the skate park. I invited Ben and his friends. We have a good time. I tell Jade about Ramon; she knew him. Ben gets bored with the conversation and hits the half pipe.

Jade still doesn't understand why I don’t get with Ben. I couldn’t tell her it was because he was human. I mean I could get with him... but I’m just naturally drawn to my own kind. I really don’t know how to explain it, I guess.

Ben invites us to his birthday party. He has an indoor pool, large game room, even a private gym. It's supposed to be a big deal. Everyone at school is talking about it. Even Tammy and her crew are invited. Sky and June were not, I'm beginning to see the difference in class and popularity.

I fall into the skater clique. Which ranks up there in popularity with jocks and cheerleaders. Ben is a jock; Tammy and her crew are cheerleaders. Of course, typical.

It is similar to our class status at my pack, but we are born in ours. Popularity isn’t a factor in it, it has mostly to due with respecting the ranks in our pack. I never treated the lower ranks badly. Mom said it was my duty as the alpha daughter to be a good example, a leader. We are in it together if something bad happened.

Lower ranks would help upper and vice versa, in a crisis. Any other time we didn’t associate with them at all. At least in my pack, I’ve never been to another territory. So, I don’t know how their subordinates are treated.

Not humans, they would step on someone to climb their way up to the top. And it was “popular” to tease and mistreat those that are weak. I shake my head at the thought. I guess our pack mentality isn’t so bad now I have something to compare it to.

So, Ben’s party is a few weeks away, what gift could I give to a boy who has everything? I could make him something. I’ll have to look in my bag and see what I got.
