Lone Wolf (The Wulf Pack Book 1)

Chapter Chapter Thirty-three

“Hello?” a cautious voice asked, deep and shaking familiar.

“Hunter, the situation here is worse than we thought,”

“Straight to the point then,” Hunter let out a breathy chuckle.

“They have fifty-three warriors, FIFTY-THREE, Hunter!”

“How is that even possible? They have a couple hundred pack members?”

“I don’t know, but they are untrained and lazy, they are not going to be able to protect this pack from the Rogues and Turned,” Hunter hummed in agreement from the other end of the line.

“I will send Wrath with Darren and his warriors as well as Ethan’s, no doubt he will want them there,”

“How long?”

“Five days,” Rage scoffed.

“I need them sooner than that,”

“Rage, they need time to get themselves together, to be breffed, it’s not like they know where they are going, how to get there,” Rage sighed, he could hear the stress in his brother’s voice.

“I’ll come and get them,”

“You’re going to come get them?” Hunter seemed shocked.

“Yes, I will come and get them, I am well experience traveling and I know how to get here...”

“Okay, when will you get here?”

“If I leave in the morning, I should be there by evening,” Rage let his mind wonder over the process, “They will have the following day to prepare and pack, that should be enough time, we will leave the next morning,”

Hunter sighed, Rage could a most feel his stress coming through the phone.

“I will inform Wrath to start the preparations,”

“Alright, if he has any questions, he knows how to reach me,” Rage ran his hand through his hair, this must have been the longest he talked to his brother in a very long time.

“We have a few things to discuss as well, brother,”

“Alright,” he said nodding even though Hunter couldn’t see him.

A knock sounded from the other side of the phone, followed by Hunter rushing off of the phone with a quick, “see you when you get here”.

He gripped his phone in his hands, staring at the screen until it grew dark.

He had a lot to do, in a short amount of time. He prayed to the Gods and Goddesses, that he actually had the time.

Hunter ran his hand through his hair, gripping and tugging at the short curls. He needed a hair cut.

He looked at his brother before him. Wrath, his face hard, a cold look in his eyes. Always made people wonder what made him like that. Even Hunter wondered what could have happened to him to make him so cold.

“Rage will be here tomorrow evening, You and Darren will be leaving with him in two days to help with the group of Rogues and Turned,”

Wrath nodded and the room fell silent for a moment.

“What about Fury? I don’t think him being here when Rage arrives is a good idea,”

Hunter nodded thoughtfully. He was going to have to send Fury away for a few days, distract him so that he couldn’t do something stupid.

“I’ll think of something,” he agreed, giving a dismissive wave in the air.

“Whatever you say,” Wrath mumbled, pushing himself up from his chair and exiting the office. Leaving Hunter thinking of ideas and reasons to send Fury away from the pack.

The only thought that seemed logical at the moment was for him to investigate the only thing that happened recently.

It would get him accross the county, but would also put him right in the middle of the mess Rage had made.

It was definitely not be the best idea, but it was the only one that was realistic at the moment.

“What did you guys find?” Rage asked, as he pulled his bedroom door open, revealing Ethan and Allison.

He was hoping for some good news. It was almost dinner and he hadn’t seen or heard from them since they left this morning.

“The Rogue wolves seemed clean. Most of them were old men, a few were females ranging in ages and there was a family, with young pups,” Ethan lowered himself into the old desk chair near the door. “They were either, too skittish to leave their homes, or they knew what was going on and we’re annoyed with the group,”

“So nothing suspicious?” Ethan shook his head. Rage nodded before turning to Allison, who was now laying flat on her back on his bed, her hair pooling around her head like water.

“I didn’t find anything either. The pack is very structured and everyone seems to have a place and are comfortable. No one seemed or acted suspicious, even seeing stranger within the pack,”

“Damn, I didn’t find anything either, their pack would have fallen if we didn’t catch the problem before it got worse. Their warriors are lazy and untrained, and there are only fifty-three of them,” Rage ran his fingers through his knotted black hair, wondering how he had let himself get dragged into this.

“So what are we going to do?”

“I spoke to Hunter, and I will be leaving in the morning to retrieve some warriors, this place is fucked if I don’t,”

“Make sure to bring my men, I’d like to have them here for this,” Ethan smirked at the thought. It had been a long time since they fought. He didn’t like to count the War Games because they were competitive but not real.

“I should be back in three days, if everything goes smoothly,” his cousins nodded.

“Are you going to tell this pack’s Beta?” Allison asked, her eyes still trained on the ceiling.

“I will meet with him after dinner,” he looked at the two of them, they both looked tired, “while I’m gone, I need you both to try to retain these warriors, hopefully they aren’t hopless, just lazy,”
