Chapter 3 Jealousy Can Ruin A Person
She tried not to overthink it and took him by his arm. As she stood beside Huo Lichen, she couldn’t help but blush.
Everyone around quickly made way for the couple. They held deep respect and fear for Huo Lichen.
Jealousy and hatred overcame Ou Nuoya as she witnessed Yan Wan by Huo Lichen’s side.
She came from a poor family, and Ou Nuoya had Yan Wan under her thumb for a long time. She saw Yan Wan as an inferior peasant and a low-born who deserved to be hidden behind the shadows forever. How dare she marry up! And that man was Huo Lichen, who was above her husband in every way possible.
No. Yan Wan had no right to outshine her.
“Yan Wan, why the sudden marriage to Mr. Huo? Weren’t you in a hotel with another man the day before yesterday? Oh my, that wasn’t your boyfriend, was it?”
Ou Nuoya displayed an act of shock and placed her hand over her mouth to suggest she had let out a big secret.
Her words startled Yan Wan. She turned around and stared at Ou Nuoya in surprise.
She knew about the incident at Shangpin Hotel?
Huo Lichen faltered for a moment. He looked at Yan Wan with interest and wondered where she was the night before.
“Ms. Ou, I urge you to reconsider your words carefully. You are treading dangerously on thin ice with your accusations about Mr. Huo’s fiancée and the potential damage to the Huo family name. Are you aware of the repercussions?”
Wei Qi stepped forward from behind in an imposing manner. His tone was stern and assertive.
It was Mr. Huo’s engagement party, and the couple was under close scrutiny by the public and tabloids. He would not tolerate any mishaps to them or their reputation.
Si Nan’s expression changed drastically, and he quickly pulled Ou Nuoya back. “Don’t spout nonsense,” he said.
Ou Nuoya was afraid, but she was not about to let Yan Wan put one over on her.
“I planned to keep it to myself, but the Huo family deserves to know the truth. Imagine the injustice the Huo family has to bear if a whore marries into the family, and the humiliation to the family name,” Ou Nuoya said out loud as she shrugged off Si Nan’s hand.
She took out a photo from her bag and said, “This is a picture of Yan Wan entering a hotel with another man. Here is my proof.”
She intended to show the photo to Si Nan in private and tarnish Yan Wan’s perfect image. She did not expect the photo to be revealed under such circumstances.
The photo showed a man and a woman. They were cuddled close to one another and seemed to be making their way into a room.
It was clear as day that the woman in the picture was Yan Wan.
Silence filled the air, and everyone glared at Yan Wan. It was a privilege to be able to wed Mr. Huo. How dare she have an affair even before the wedding! That ingrate of a woman.
Yan Wan felt the judging eyes on her, and it was unnerving. It made her feel uneasy and awkward.
But she couldn’t remember what happened that night, and she was certain the room in the photo was not the same room she walked out of.
Did something else happen before the rape? What was it?
“The photo does not prove anything. We have never seen eye to eye, and it wouldn’t be the first time you stabbed me in the back. You could have doctored the photo,” argued Yan Wan.
Yan Wan dared not pursue further. She flatly denied the accusation regardless of the authenticity of the photo.
The turn of events emboldened Ou Nuoya, and she respectfully handed the photo over to Huo Lichen.
“Mr. Huo, this photo is not doctored. Feel free to examine it. Everyone on campus knew He Feiyang courted Yan Wan aggressively, and they were always seen together. No one knew much about their ambiguous relationship,” Ou Nuoya added.
The man in the photo was indeed He Feiyang.
The bridesmaid chimed in hastily, “Yes, that’s right. Literally, everyone in A University knew about them.”
They were determined to ruin Yan Wan’s good name.
The engagement party was about to begin. There was no time to verify the photo, and even if they could, it would reflect badly on Yan Wan.
She squeezed her arm against Huo Lichen’s, reflecting her jitteriness.
The situation had gotten out of hand, and the Huo family’s reputation took a blow to some extent. Would he forsake her now?
