Lies in My Marriage by Lane Abbott

Chapter 6

I noticed a slight hesitation in Tania’s expression. She forced a smile and

quickly placed the bowl of medicine on the bedside table. Then, she kindly

said, “Let me take a look!”

Her smile sent a shiver down my spine.

I pointed to the spot that was painful. “Right here!”

She touched it with her fingers and pretended to gently press on it while

asking, “Here? I don’t feel anything.”

I hissed. “Yes! It’s right here, and it hurts a lot!”

“It looks perfectly fine to me.” She moved her fingers to other areas. “Do you

feel any discomfort in other places?”

She was diverting my attention.

I sat up straight, still touching the painful area, and looked at her. “It’s strange.

I keep feeling like my head is being stabbed, like it has been happening

frequently lately.”

“There’s nothing unusual about it. It’s probably just a nerve pain. I sometimes

experience strange sensations too.” She offered her explanation based on

personal experience.

cursed her silently, thinking that she was talking nonsense. My fingertips.

could feel the granular protrusion, and there was even a trace of blood that I

had wiped off earlier. However, she insisted that there was nothing wrong.

She was clearly taking advantage of my inability to see that spot and lying to

my face

I suspected that it wasn’t just a single needle in that spot because I had been

awakened by a similar stabbing pain several times recently, but this time, I

was fully awake.

After a while, I pretended to be lost in thought and said, “Oh.”

Perhaps she felt guilty, so she quickly said to me, “Mrs. Diaz, please take your

medicine first. I’ll go check on Felix. He’s playing downstairs by himself, and I’m

worried about him.”

With that, she turned and walked away. I secretly breathed a sigh of relief.

This was the effect I wanted. Otherwise, she would have watched me drink

the medicine before leaving.

From last night until now, I hadn’t taken two doses of medicine, and I could

clearly feel that my consciousness was much clearer. The drowsiness was

less overwhelming, and my fatigue had eased a bit. Even my heart rate was

back to normal.

It seemed that I couldn’t continue taking this medicine. I suspected that all of

my adverse reactions were related to it.

I needed to find a way to have the medicine tested as soon as possible to

know what she had been giving me.

I also needed to find out whether Kevin knew anything about what had

happened to me.

But for now, I wondered how I should handle this bowl of medicine in front of

  1. me.

I looked up at the location where the surveillance camera used to be, and my

intuition told me not to take this lightly. I still didn’t understand why Tania was

treating me this way. How many hidden schemes were behind this? Thoro

had to be a reason.

I needed to find a more secure way to handle the medicine. Pouring it onto

the blanket wouldn’t be a good idea; it would eventually be discovered.

Ria stretched and crawled out from under the blanket before curling up in my

arms. I had an idea. I held onto her, petted her a few times, and then picked.

up the medicine bowl. Sure enough, Ria strongly resisted before leaping out

of my arms. It seemed she was quite averse to this medicine.

I casually placed the bowl back where it was and pretended to brush my

clothes, giving the impression that some of the medicine had spilled onto

them.

Then, I stood up and went to the bathroom to wash my face. As I wiped my

face with a towel, I walked to the bedside table with my back to the location

of the surveillance camera. Then, I quickly poured the medicine into the towel

and acted as if I were drinking from the bowl.

I held the bowl and the towel with the absorbed medicine before walking out

of the room as if nothing had happened and headed downstairs.

I had to maintain a calm demeanor. After all, I didn’t know what secrets lay

behind Tania’s actions. I needed to find out.

As I descended the stairs, I thought I heard Kevin’s voice. I froze. My nose.

tingled, and I couldn’t help taking a few steps forward.

It was my instinctive reaction to rely on him. After all, he was the closest

person to me in this house. Over the past ten years, he has taken care of me

with utmost care and affection. Anyone who knew us knew that he cherished

me and treated me like a precious gem.

I wondered if he knew about what was happening to me when I lay on the

bed unaware.

The murmurs of the man downstairs, along with Felix’s laughter, made me

feel helpless and almost brought tears to my eyes.

I continued down the stairs in a hurry, but as I raised my gaze, I was shocked

by what I saw in front of me.
