A Disturbing Encounter

Despite the seriousness of the situation, Kevin failed to take me to the

hospital. Instead, he repeatedly called my name and tried to check on me.

Eventually, I heard Tania rushing into my room.

The overwhelming sadness and despair I felt made me slightly lightheaded.

Although I was only pretending to be unconscious, my weak body longed for

sleep as soon as I closed my eyes.

“What’s happening? Why is she crying out in the middle of the night? She-”

Tania’s sentence was abruptly interrupted by a loud slap.

The sound startled me awake, and I almost opened my eyes.

Curiosity got the better of me, and I discreetly glanced through my slightly

opened eyes. I saw Tania holding her face, fear in her eyes as she looked at

Kevin.

“How dare you even ask? This is all your fault!” Kevin growled angrily. His voice

was chilling and sinister as he moved closer to Tania. “Who told you to do

this?”

“I…” Tania retreated in terror, her gaze fixed on Kevin, who looked like a

menacing demon.

I had never seen this side of Kevin before. He seemed like an evil spirit that

had escaped from hell. His eyes were sinister and bloodshot.

At first, I thought his anger was directed at Tania for hurting me. I also hoped

that he still had a shred of conscience. Unfortunately, his subsequent words

shattered that hope.

“You worthless woman!” Kevin spat out in a fit of rage. He then glanced at me

before forcefully grabbing Tania’s arm and dragging her out of the room.

Quickly, I grabbed my phone to review the security footage. In the hallway,

Kevin let go of Tania’s hand and gripped her jaw. He used so much force that

Tania hit the wall, but she didn’t fight back.

Kevin glared at Tania with malice and said, “Listen carefully. If you want to

stay here and be the mistress of this house, you better behave. Your duty is

to take care of her. If you can’t even do that…”

He took a step closer to Tania, studying her face intently before continuing in

a dark tone, “I won’t hesitate to find someone else. Don’t think you can

blackmail me!”

The two engaged in a silent staring contest. After a few seconds, Tania

surrendered and lowered her head. “I… understand.”

Kevin exhaled sharply and snorted derisively. This was completely different

from the Kevin I knew.

In my memory, he was always a handsome and reserved man with a gentle

and elegant demeanor. But the man I saw in the footage was nothing like the

Kevin I knew.

“Go and clean everything up. Take care of her. If she asks any questions when

she wakes up, tell her nothing happened. Got it?” Kevin glared at Tania. Once

she nodded, he went back to his study.

Tania stood in the hallway, looking dazed for a while. Eventually, she

composed herself and walked towards my room. Quickly, I hid my phone

under my body.

She entered the room, stood beside the bed, and stared at me for a long

time. Soon, I heard the sound of running water as she went into the

bathroom.

I silently breathed a sigh of relief. It seemed that Kevin was unaware of

Tania’s attempt to harm me. However, his actions were not driven by concern

for my well–being. He was just angry that Tania had disrupted his plans.

Tania used a wet towel to wipe my face roughly. Maybe afraid that the cold

towel would wake me up, she used warm water instead. She carefully

cleaned my mouth.

Before leaving, the door opened again. I stole a glance and saw Kevin

coming back. He went straight to the shelf and, after a moment of thought,

asked Tania, “What happened?”

“The cat knocked it over,” Tania replied meekly.

I realized that he had gone to the study to check the security footage of this

room. But I knew for sure that the water damage had made the camera

useless.

Kevin reached out to inspect the camera before putting it back in its original

position.

I felt relieved. His actions indicated that he hadn’t discovered anything

unusual.

The unexpected drama came to an end, but Kevin didn’t leave my room that

night. Instead, he climbed into bed beside me.

It wasn’t uncommon for a married couple to share a bed, but I couldn’t help

but feel a chill down my spine.

Had he suddenly regained his conscience?
