Chapter 6
“Ding
Suddenly, the doorbell rang, startling me.
Hudson stopped trying to push the door open. He turned around and looked toward the door.
“Ding, ding!”
The doorbell kept ringing. Hudson frowned deeply and walked over.
When he opened the door, Ayla stood there anxiously holding her daughter.
When Ayla saw Hudson, the tension in her delicate features eased. She quickly returned to her usual gentle and elegant demeanor.
“Hudson, seeing you rush home like that, I thought something happened to Hailey and Leah,” Ayla said, “I finished at the hospital and came over to check on Leah. “After all, I did call you away early this morning,” Ayla continued, “I was worried you. and Hailey might have another argument because of me.”
Listening to Ayla’s hypocritical words, I couldn’t help but roll my eyes.
She was always like this, pretending to have our best interests at heart, but constantly inserting herself between Hudson and me. She acted so helpless and delicate, which was utterly nauseating.
“Dad, I missed you,” Rylee said.
Rylee waved happily at Hudson. Her face was beaming with a smile.
Seeing that it was Ayla, Hudson’s furrowed brows relaxed. He naturally took Rylee from Ayla’s arms.
“Hailey’s upset with me and didn’t even take Leah to school. She’s still hiding in the room and won’t come out. I’ve had enough of her.”
That scene deeply pained me. It seemed like they were the real, happy family of three.
Hudson and Ayla had grown up together. They met in high school and fell in love in college.
But when it came time to talk about marriage, Ayla’s mother looked down on Hudson’s poor family and tore them apart.
Later, Ayla got married and moved abroad. Hudson was heartbroken. When he was at his lowest, I was the one who helped him back up.
I even went against my family’s wishes and chose to marry him.
We once had a sweet and happy time together. I supported him in starting his business. We worked tirelessly day and night. He promised me a lifetime of happiness and a bright future.
Later, I became pregnant with Leah. We smoothly entered into marriage.
The year Leah was born was the peak of Hudson’s career. He held Leah lovingly and couldn’t bear to let go.
“Leah is my lucky princess. I will work harder to ensure you will always be a princess.”
All the happiness came to a screeching halt the moment Ayla came to Hudson with her child.
“Hudson, I have nowhere to go. No one to turn to.”
Ayla’s pitiful words instantly captured all of Hudson’s attention..
We began to argue. We started hurling insults at each other, saying the most hurtful things until we were both utterly exhausted.
Once a carefree little princess, Leah began to live in constant fear, always watching Hudson’s expressions.
Hudson always said I owed Ayla something. He claimed he was helping me repay that debt.
But I never knew what I owed Ayla.
I wanted a divorce, but Hudson refused. He said he had never wronged me and would keep things in check.
Later, I was diagnosed with cancer. I was terrified and wanted to tell him.
But then I saw him attending the company’s annual meeting with Ayla, introducing her as the hostess.
I was completely devastated.
