Chapter 90

“I told you she was not good for you, but you never listened to me. I am your mother, Hunter. A mother will never lie to her child,” Mrs. Moore towered over Hunter who was sitting on the bed with his face buried between his palms.

“Are you going to keep being like this, son? You need to pull ogether,” She lowered her voice and sat beside him on the bed.

“She doesn’t deserve you, so you shouldn’t grieve over her. You’ll find a better woman for yourself soon. So you should get over that bit—”

“It was all your fault, Mom!” Hunter rose to his feet as tears streamed down his cheeks.

“Hunter!” She stood up, her face dilated in shock.

“It was all your fault. You caused everything. It was all because of you!” He sank his fingers into his hair and pulled his hair slowly but aggressively. He hasn’t been himself ever since the incident. It was hard to think straight with everything that has happened to him. No matter how he tried to pull himself together, he could not bring himself to do it. It

was difficult.

“I only made the best decision for you. If you had listened to me, then this would have happened,” Mrs. Moore was still in denial even though she knew deep inside her that what she did was wrong. To her, she did all that to protect her son, she did that because she felt it was good for him.

“I told you not to meddle, Mom. I told you that it was my life, and you didn’t hav

any right to meddle into it. I told you that you could make other decisions for me, but I am a man, and grown up enough to choose a life partner for myself!” He paused and scoffed. “It didn’t have

anything to do with you, Mom. It didn’t matter whether you liked her to not. Wh

mattered was that I loved her with everything in me—”

“She never loved you!” She reminded him, and he slowly clenched his fist.

“That is not up to you to say, Mom. That had nothing to do with you either!” He snapped at her, and she flinched.

“Hunter—”

“I want to be left alone, please…” He paused and slumped on the bed.

“Son–”

“I told you that I want to be alone. Please leave, Mom,” He held his gaze low and spoke between weak breath.

“Hmm. Call me if you need anything,” She walked over to the door, but paused and glanced back at him one more time before leaving the

room.

‘Did you have to humiliate like that in the presence of everyone?’

‘Answer your phone, Summer’

‘Why are you not taking my calls? I’m losing my mind here. Please just pick up and talk to me.

‘Why are you doing this to me? I only love you, is that ever a crime?’

I just want to hear your voice’

‘I missed you so much, Summer. Please just speak to me’ Tears poured down his cheeks as he slowly scrolled through the text he had sent to

her in the last few hours yet got no reply. First, it was anger, then came spite, followed by guilt, and finally self pity.

His finger tremble as he pathetically dialled her number and held the phone to his ear.

“Please pick up this time… I really want to speak to you,” His voice came out in a whisper, hoping she’d talk to him. It was difficult to stop

even if he wanted to.

The call rang for seconds and dropped without an answer yet again.

He hopelessly brought down the phone from his ear and tossed it on the bed. He hated to be like this, but what could he do when he could not stop this feeling?

His phone beeped, and he picked it up with the speed of light, hoping it was Summer who had texted him, but his face dropped disappointedly when he realised that she wasn’t the one.

A knock sounded on the door as he dropped his phone on the bed, so he looked at the door and exhaled deeply.

“Hunter… It’s me, your sister. Can you let me in, please?” Hazel’s voice sounded from outside.

“The door is not locked,” He spoke up.

Shortly, the door opened, and Hazel walked in with a tray of food.

“If you are here to serve me food, you should take it back. I’m not hungry,” He stood up from the bed once he wiped his tears, and turned to go to the bathroom when she spoke up.

“Can you stop being like this, please? We are all worried about you for goodness sake,” He paused and scoffed when she spoke up.

“Worried about me?” He turned to her and scoffed again.

“Why? Are you scared that I might die?” The corner of his lips ridiculously twitched into a smirk, and Hazel sighed.

“I told you to stop talking about death. It’s scary. You know I don’t like it,” She rolled her eyes as she carefully dropped the tray on the center

table.

“Take the food away. I’m not hungry,” He turned and walked inside the bathroom, slamming the door behind him.

Hunter soaked himself under the shower with his clothes on, hoping his head would be cleared by doing this, but that horrible incident and the images were still in his head. Something he could never get rid of.

After spending minutes under the shower, he stripped out of his clothes and changed into a robe before walking back into his room, but paused when he found Hazel sitting on his bed.

“I told you to leave… I’m not hungry, so take the food with you on your way out,” He spoke up grumpily as he walked over to his closet and threw the doors opened.

“I know you are still mad about what happened, but you should eat something. You haven’t had anything since the incident, and it’s scary. Can you please eat something?” Hazel tried to sound persuasive as she stood up and walked up to him.

“Come on,” She whined as she tugged on his arm.

“I told you to leave!” He snapped angrily at her as he pushed her back roughly, and she slumped on the ground…
