Lethal Confessions

Chapter Three

He clapped. Startled they jumped away from each other; they had been caught.

"I can't believe what I just saw." Shawn's look of pure joy was the exact opposite of the horror etched on the faces of the two. "You know I just saved you both's asses. Philip offered to save me the hustle of coming for my bottle of beer by bringing up the cooler for me. I guess it would have been pretty messy if he found his girlfriend and best friend making out in the basement."

"It's not what it looks like." Sophia was quick to interject.

"Really?" Shawn looked like he didn't believe her. "Then what is it? Tell me."

For the second time that night Sophia was speechless. Then without a glance in John's direction she passed by Shawn and climbed out of the basement.

...

Shawn took a swig of his beer. "I'm really glad I packed us a cooler full of beer else I don't know what the hell we'd be stuck here drinking."

"Well, we'd be drinking water, which is healthy btw."

"You're only saying that because the only thing apart from beer you could get your hands on was water. Cassie, you got to loosen up, you can't not have fun your entire life." Alexandra took a swig of her own beer before Shawn pulled her in for a lustful kiss.

Cassandra rolled her eyes at their show.

The girls excluding Alexandra had done the best they could in cleaning up the dust in the living room and they all were seated in the living room wrapped in their comforters on a mat John had found and cleaned in the basement. None of them knew how to operate the fireplace so they just let it be but at least the lights were functioning, surprisingly. The noise from the thunderstorm outside could barely be heard through the walls.

"I'm bored. Let's play a game." Alexandra announced to no one in particular.

"What game?"

"Truth or Dare." Alexandra said spookily.

"No way." Cassandra's voice was definite. "Haven't you watched those movies? Whenever the group of friends play 'Truth or Dare' in an abandoned house or building something bad always happens. I don't want to die before I get my degree."

The silence that followed was bleak, they all stared at her as though she had just grown a tail. Shawn was the first to breach it; he threw his head back and laughed, his laughter roaring and echoing in the room. The rest followed, even Philip, giving Cassandra disbelieving looks.

"Cassie, where have you been living this while? Under a rock?" Shawn put down his empty bottle and took another one from the cooler. "We're going to play the game and nothing's going to happen."

"Whatever." Cassandra folded her arms, admitting defeat.

"Okay then." Philip removed his arm from around Sophia's shoulders and picked Shawn's discarded bottle. He put it on the floor on its side and settled back into his position. "Let's play this game."

Alexandra gave him a wierd look. "I said we should play, 'Truth or Dare', not 'Spin The Bottle'? Has any of you ever played 'Truth or Dare' before?"

"Just get on with it." Sophia muttered, slightly irritated.

"Fine. Philip, truth or dare?"

"Truth."

"Have you ever had an orgy since you got into college?" Alexandra asked with a straight face, her voice neutral.

Sophia looked at her boyfriend. His discomfort was evident. "Well?" She wanted an answer too.

"I think I'll do a dare instead."

Shawn shook his head. "You choose it, you do it. Just answer the question man. Have you, you know, had sex with —"

Alexandra smacked her boyfriend. "He gets the picture."

They all looked at Philip expectantly, even his cousin. "Yes, I have." He finally said. "But it was only only one time." He was quick to add.

"Ooh." Shawn sang. "Perfect boy here has dark desires."

Philip turned to see the look of disgust cross his girlfriend's face before it quickly disappeared. He turned back to the game, shame threatening to consume him. "Shawn, your turn. Truth or dare?"

Shawn drank a considerable amount of his beer before putting the bottle down. "Truth."

"Had you ever had a one-night stand with a stranger and never set eyes on her again?"

Shawn smirked. "Philip, you never seize to amaze me. You already know the answer to this question is a yes." The slap that hit his face was unexpected. "Alex, what the hell did you do that for?"

"You deserved that."

"Stop acting like you're not guilty as well. Or you think I've forgotten about —" Alexandra clasped her hand on his mouth to stop him from spilling her secret.

"Fine." He pushed away her hand. "Johnny boy, your turn."

"I told you to stop calling me that."

"Truth or dare?" Shawn went on, uncaring.

"Truth."

"Why, you scared I'm going to give you something horrible to do? Okay, my question is, how many of your best mate's girlfriends have you slept with?"
