Lethal Confessions

Chapter Eighteen

She fell down in a heap, heartbroken. She was lost, wet, cold and scared. And all she had for company was Shawn's corpse. She couldn't even cry, the tears refused to fall.

How had it gotten to this? Where had they gone wrong? The trip was supposed to help them relax. All they wanted to do was spend their vacation at a five-star hotel and have some fun, and in her case get some time for herself. But now all the others were all dead and she was next, no doubt about that. She just sat there and allowed herself to be soaked by the rain. There was no way of escaping this place, she might as well deal with it.

A sound to her left dragged her out of her self-pity. There was no one around, at least from what she could see under the moonlight. She heard it again - someone running, very fast - and cautiously stood up. She squinted through the rain to spot whoever it was, although a little part of her brain told her she already knew the person.

She saw the legs first, perfectly tanned, Sophia's. Slowly, the rest of the body came into view. Her heart caught in her throat when she saw what was connected to those legs; what seemed to be the body parts of each of her friends. She knew John recently had a secret crow tattoo right above his belly button, and unless tattoos of crows with golden wings and red beaks were common she was staring at his torso.

And the arms were definitely Alexandra's, her multicoloured nails shimmered in the moonlight. Philip's red hair was unmistakable, even in its new long length. The face was also his although it seemed very feminine, in fact the whole body did. John's chest now featured a hefty bust covered by his white shirt, complete with Sophia's denim shorts. She looked back at the feet and noticed something different about them. Although the legs were Sophia's, the feet weren't. Then she noticed a familiar thin scratch on one of them. She glanced back at Shawn's legs and saw that they matched. She was really staring at parts of her friends in one form.

The shock sent shivers down her legs and she felt them weaken. They gave up and she fell backwards on her butt. The thing took a step towards her and she shuffled backwards. It took another step and she shuffled backwards faster. This went on till Cassandra felt her back hit the trunk of a tree. The thing stopped too. It's angelic appearance was in contrast to evil aura it exuded.

"What are you? What have you done with my friends?"

Philip's blue eyes only watched her.

"Alma..." Cassandra whispered and those eyes lit up.

When she spoke the voice sounded exactly like Philip's. "I see you found my diary. Liked what you saw?"

Cassandra's face scrunched up in disgust. "Liked? More like despised."

The thing just smiled. "That's what I was trying to prove, that no one understands me."

"There were many ways you could have proved your point, you didn't have to murder your family."

"Oh I did. And I think they got the message."

"They never did. You murdered them before they had a chance."

"And I had every reason to do so, they deserved it."

Dear Diary, I'm going to kill my family.

I always knew mum and dad never cared for me as their daughter. They always treated Alisa and cousin Alistair like their real daughters and left me out. I constantly endured because I knew there was going to be a day when I would prove to them that I was really their daughter.

I guess that day was never to come. Few days after my decision, we have an accident on our way to our vacation cabin. And surprising enough, among all the people in the car - my dad, mum, Alisa, Alistair and me - I was the only one who got seriously hurt. And instead of my dad comforting me like I expected, I got a scolding because it was my fault I did not put on my seat belt. But I did not have my seat belt on because at that time dad had asked me to get something from the trunk for him. I had a broken arm and my face was scared. I'm using my broken right arm to write this right now.

And to make things worse, they have me on antidepressants and all sorts of drugs now. I also have to visit a shrink once a week for the reason that they think I'm going crazy. Well, they're right on that one, I'm going crazy with jealousy and anger. Their attitude towards me is worse since the accident. And not just from them, I've lost all my friends at school and I've been nicknamed Scar Face. I can't even make a complaint at school, I know it's useless.

They've been happy at my expense for so long and I think it's time the tables turned. And there's only one way it's going to happen, if they're dead.

"You went on to describe the many ways you were going to kill them. Did any of them work out?"

"Something came up and I changed tactics. Stabbed them in their beds before I burnt the house. Got the dagger from a very powerful witch. It was quite easy; a little drug - which I also got from the witch - in each of their meals and they were in deep sleep."

"And did they understand? Did your parents understand you?"

"Some people are hard to change, even in the face of death."

"And I'm guessing you killed yourself afterwards."

"No. Run out of the cabin and got hit by a truck."

"Must have been painful, paying for your sins."

"Oh I'm paying for it all right. Have been for the past 10 years. And this curse would still have been hanging on my head if you guys hadn't come along. And now I'm going to be free."

"How? By stealing the body parts of my friends after you murdered them?"

"No. You said it yourself, you killed yourselves. I was just helping. And my freedom is guaranteed not just by stealing the body parts of your friends - which by the way are not so bad - but also taking your soul."

"My what?"

"You heard me. Your friends made it easier for me to usurp their bodies because of their confessions and the little evil in their hearts. And now it's your turn. I need a soul to be complete and be able to finally break this curse and leave this place. That's what the witch told me years ago, before I killed her for refusing to help me. But today, nothing's going to stop me," Her voice began to deepen and her eyes began to change colour. "from getting what I want."

Cassandra was now staring at a 6 feet combination of all her friends, complete with deadly red eyes and a resolve to kill her. She had to find something to protect herself, and she had to find it fast.
