Chapter 63
Scarlet was in a hurry to call the maintenance company, but just then, a gentle voice came from behind her.
"What's wrong? Are you having any trouble?"
"Mr. Smith, my computer malfunctioned, and Evie urgently needs the client data. I've already sorted them out, but the computer..."
Marlon really pitied her when he saw how much she was fretting and sweating out of worry.
He bent down to check the computer out. He figured there was a problem with the main circuit board, and it wouldn't be able to be repaired in a short time.
"What kind of client information does she need on weekends? I have it on my laptop, so I'll send it to her later. You don't have to worry about it."
"Really? Thank you so much, Mr. Smith."
Scarlet breathed a sigh of relief.
Just then, her stomach rumbled from hunger.
Marlon couldn't help chuckling. He looked around and saw the new batch of cloth along with the printed documents that were properly placed on every desk.
It was obvious that Scarlet had worked hard.
"Let's go have dinner."
"No, thanks... It's too late. I have to go home."
"Well, even if you have to get home, you still need to have dinner, right? You worked overtime this weekend. I'm your boss. I wouldn't be a great one if I didn't reward you for it. We're not in school now. There is no need to be so formal and polite. And if you refuse my offer, people will wonder why and assume I don't treat my employees well."
"Well, then let's get some food. The beef noodles sold in the restaurant downstairs are really delicious and also super affordable!"
Scarlet was worried that Marlon would suggest an expensive restaurant, so she quickly spoke first to beat him to it. Scarlet was worried that Marlon would suggest an expensive restaurant, so she quickly spoke first to beat him to it.
"Okay, I actually happen to crave beef noodles, too."
He smiled. He looked quite handsome and pleasant when his eyes wrinkled.
At the restaurant, Scarlet finished her bowl of noodles pretty quickly, but she was still hungry when she was done.
"Hey, Mr. Smith, is it okay if I have another serving of noodles?"
Marlon was a little surprised at this question. It was the first time he had met a girl who enjoyed her food, and a lot of it, at that.
Even as a man who had considered himself to have a big appetite, one bowl of noodles was enough for him. And she, this tiny woman, wanted another?
Scarlet realized how she must have come off, and felt embarrassed. She said, "Well... Actually, never mind. I'm fine."
"No, no, don't be silly. I'm glad you have such a good appetite. But I'm shocked that you don't gain any weight after eating so much!"
"Well, I am fat... but it's easy to hide. When I wear loose clothing, it's hard to tell what my body type is really like."
She hid the fact that she needed to eat more because she was pregnant, and wanted to give sufficient nutrition to the baby.
She gave Marlon a shy and infectious smile.
On the side of the road across from them, a black Maybach had been parked there for a long while.
Drake carefully observed the expression on Lenny's face. The man's face seemed gloomy, and his deep-set eyes were hardened in concentration.
In the evening, Lenny had been at work in the company.
When he was leaving, he asked Drake to take a detour so that he could pick Scarlet up and take her home. But he didn't expect to see this!
"Sir... Now..."
"Leave," Lenny firmly said in a cold voice and closed his eyes, wanting to be indifferent to what he had just seen.
They were divorced now. Scarlet had her own freedom to be with whoever she liked.
She had also clearly said that she had a crush on Marlon.
He should be happy for her, that she was able to find a nice boyfriend.
But then... why did he still feel his heart ache when he saw her with another man?
Soon, Scarlet finished her second bowl of noodles. When Marlon wanted to drop her home, she refused.
She was living with Lenny now. The less people knew about it, the better. She wanted to keep her relationship with Lenny a secret for now.
Marlon didn't insist further. He hailed a taxi for her and took a picture of its license plate and the driver's information, just in case. He told her to send him a message when she got home, so he knew she was safe.
By the time she got home, it was already at midnight.
The house was dark.
She guessed Lenny was already asleep.
As she silently removed her shoes, the lights in the living room switched on suddenly.
In an instant, the whole room lit up brightly.
Lenny was seated on the sofa. He looked tense and a little bit hostile.
Scarlet felt flustered and uncertain when she saw him like this. She absentmindedly gulped as her body grew stiff and rigid.
Why hadn't he gone to bed yet?
