Chapter 14: Nemesis’ Report to Myra
Nemesis returned to the Harem to find Myra, Sakura, Jasmine, Hitomi, Izanami, Tasha, Jennifer, Lola, and Trinity awake. The rest were still asleep as it was just getting light enough to see clearly. He slipped in and went to Myra, who greeted him in the usual manner. “Any word?” Myra asked as those who were awake gathered around.
Nemesis’ face was very grim as he said, “I found out where they took her. She’s in the Tower.”
Gasps of horror escaped the lips of the women and Tasha said in dismay, “The Tower...by the gods! They mean to destroy her.”
Myra became very distressed at the news. “Where did you get the news?” she asked.
“The turncoat Gulez,” Nemesis replied coolly. “He knew approximately where she was but not exactly. He told me about the security arrangements. However, the thing that bothers me about this whole incident is the fact that they did it without me knowing. There’s only one of the Cadre that can hide what he does from me and that’s Ahriaman.”
“Do you believe him?” Jennifer asked.
Nemesis nodded, saying, “Yes, I do. And that’s because of the intelligence he gave me after telling me where Selina is being kept.”
“What would that be?” Lola asked.
Nemesis shook his head, saying, “You don’t need to know. But I can tell you this, the Emperor is pulling out all the stops on this next move he’s making.”
Myra looked up at the bear and asked, “Is there any way to get Selina out of there?”
Nemesis shook his head, saying, “Not at the moment. I tried to reach her but the secret passages have been blocked in the Tower. I couldn’t get to her without being spotted. This problem is beyond my abilities for the moment. But never fear; I’ll find a way to get her out of there. I just thought you would like to know where she is before I go.”
“Where are you going?” Tasha asked.
“I’m going to see someone that might be able to help,” Nemesis replied.
“Who might that be?” Tasha asked again.
“You shouldn’t ask Nemesis that, sister,” Izanami scolded. “He has sensitive intelligence he cannot share with us without endangering all of us. Just be happy that he has a plan.”
“Forgive me,” Tasha apologized. “I’m just so worried about Selina. That’s all.”
“It’s okay, Tasha,” Nemesis replied softly. “As sister Izanami said, I have sensitive information that can’t be shared right now, but don’t fret. All I can say for now is look to the west.” Nemesis smiled cryptically.
“Go then and don’t be long, my friend,” Myra stated, flashing a wry smile. “Selina really needs your help.”
Nemesis grinned, showing his teeth as he turned and headed for the secret panel. “I’ll be back. I promise,” he declared as he retreated into the passage, closing the door. Just as he closed the panel, the main doors to the Harem were opened and the servants and guards brought in the breakfast.
